    Help :(

quote "(b)Head height on a submersible pump is from the pump not the top of the water, why is then different in canister filters as stated by Ira?" Now that is a good question ... negative head ... hmm .. does that mean water source above pump unit .. or ....

    Help :(

And the subject of novembers discussion is ... " how can a canister pump 3 mtrs above a tank when the head height is only 2 mtrs ... lol "

    Help :(

Wow .. you make it sound so clear for us simpletons .. so for a six foot tank have 8x 750 via aquas and you can create a 2 mtr water fall ..... cool 8) 8)
  4. The eggs wouldn't be viable being underwater or exposed to the outside temp , ... they need a deep warm sand bed to bury them in . you can find out more thru google .. the larger of the two sounds like a female if they are red ears ..
  5. the whole things pointless!
  6. Maybe they need to justify their wages by making new lists .. and in 5 years they will do it again..and 5 years , and 5 years etc so the odds are with natural attrition , the "allowed" list will shrink again and again and.... What I can't fathom with their thinking is why not allow most tropical species into the country? .. it's not like they can survive in our natural waters anyway :-? ... unless they know something about global warming we don't
  7. quote " please use scientific names" What about using "scientific" and common names so we all know what we are saying without most having to look it up ? 8) .. only a thought

so if your on the tenth floor of an apartment , canister on ground floor , and all pipes are straight.. out/intakes are level .. it will work as if just under the tank??

    Help :(

so your saying that a canister sitting in the basement ( 25 ft down ) will pump the same amount of water as a canister 2 ft below the tank as long as the intake and outake are level with each other ??? :-? hmmmm ..
  11. with the malayan snails they breed like ..ummm .. snails and for no reason they have a mass die off ( water conditions are not an issue here) ... like aquatic lemmings .

    Help :(

Sorry suphew but your wrong... fully loaded canister flow at the levels stated by the manufacters ... but only at head height .. the impeller determines the flow rate( not downward gravity from intake) and can only pump so much water at a set rate , the higher it has to pump water the more heavier the water ( gravity/density/height).. hence less output .... hope this clears up some misunderstandings about canisters excuse the spelling.

    Help :(

go with Ira .. canisters claim lph at head height , the higher the outlet the less they pump. the cloudy water is expected upon setting up a new tank .. water gushing over ( washed) gravel etc ... "bacterial bloom" .. don't think so .. to new ... Just turn the lights off and don't worry about it until tomorrow.. you will be fine
  14. that copper sulfate will kill your snails too and pollute the tank with their dead bodies rotting.... and in doing so will effect your babies ... be careful
  15. @ beachy ... turn your lights off for a couple of days and the cyno will contract enough for you to siffon it out .. .. any left overs will florish once you have the lights on again .... keep this up until all is gone and you shouldn't have a problem
  16. UM ... "tiny snails dying" .. if you mean the little buggers living in the gravel .. Malayan snail " Melanoides Tuberculata"? .. if these are what you have they appear when food is present or lights are off .. they are a good scavenger and look nice but the only problem and the "major" problem is they breed too much and from time to time they have massive die offs... hence the smell ... do massive gravel clean to remove decaying bodies and replace said water ( aged) and you will be fine..
  17. full gouramis ( non dwarf) can handle room temp no worries and grow and breed too ...... up in northern north island .anyway. think not south of the bombays ... sorry guys down ====> there ... been to countries where these guys live and the water temp is not always tropical there...
  18. know this is an old post , but with newborn " ponies" :-? ... place fresh live rock from deep rock pools into the rearing tank every other day.. these contain many hundreds/thousands of micro foods ( copepods etc ) that help the baby seahorses to fatten up ... before you intro BBS etc. hope this helps.
  19. these guys are like the cute kids you see growing up on the wrong side of the tracks .. when they grow up they turn into "boots an braces , busting faces" B'stards..
  20. Why not do the "obvious" and put a replacement dwarf in the tank ???
  21. how did Shae manage to score your male ?..... anyway congrats on the spawn ... would luv to buy some off you when they're old enough..
  22. That is a very long outage .. do you live in the wops? ... temp won't be a major .. dived over in asia fresh and salt .. been caught in monsoon rains and I mean "RAINS" temp drops real fast in the water but the fish seem to not give a rats a.r.s.e. ... toxin build up would be the one to worry about in your case .. especially keeping Discus
  23. My own religion... hmmm ... is that tax deductable ??
  24. Gorilla Crab ? .. if the end of the pincers are half cup shape you should be ok. if not .. "KILL THE BAS'TARD" ... or give him to me ... 8) 8) 8)
