  2. carp==barbels around the mouth.....look like wise old asian mans whiskers ... 8)
  3. You guys have any probs with PH rising while using sand?? ... I use a normal gravel cleaner for the sand base in the marine tanks ...but always have the syphom hose half crimped ( with my hand) to slow down the flow rate ....( helps when you get a sand clog to cut off flow then just bang the tube against tank to loosen sand).... this method is useful when going deep into the sand bed to airate the lower regions ...( leaving sum areas undisturbed is good for the anerobic bacteria to "denitrify" the system too..).... by the way still think these guys are cool ===> :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: ... go the bouncing pea's ... 8)
  4. Hey . bought the same styles from Thailand and Cambodia ... as much as they look cool wouldn't dream of putting them into an aqautic living area ... am going to reproduce them in clay .... ( fish swimming around a hindu diety...."trippy" 8) ...especialy Ghanesh or shieva ( spelling?). 8)
  5. you mean the Remuera tractors? rvr . mpv , jazz , rav , usb , explorer , cherokee , bighorn , irmshur , patrol , pathfinder , safari , terrano , navara, discovery , range , territory , l/cruiser , hilux , surf , ... and on and on.... sounds like more of them than true blondes in auck!. Anyway steve .. have heaps of the white 20 ltr buckets( have a non 4WD for collecting NSW) ( EF wagon.. more room than the above ego boosters.. no offence Chim  8) ) but short of 6 lids for sum of them ... do they sell them seperate ? ............................... "plus haven't forgotten equip".
  6. sum dead zones are good for anerobic conditions ( denitrification) !! ... 8)
  7. Rocketman ... you run a skimmer on a freshwater tank ? :-?
  8. fish at top of tank gasping = no oxygen in tank- cause , water too hot , no air pump , saturated pollutants , :-?
  9. Oh my budda ! .. sorry to hear of yur losses ..would not wish that on anyone . Do you still want me to send sum caulerpa and red macros to you ... am stripping the marine holding tank this weekend so if yur still keen , let me know ... cheers Klay. Language removed Moderator. Bill.
  10. Emptying my marine holding tank this weekend , anyone want sum caulerpa plus red macro algae's better get in quick other wise the yukka's / draceanea's and other land growers will be happy with the organics .... 8)
  11. I think we should introduce the " nad test" to MAF .. get the maf officers to dunk them in the local waters to see how they like it! ... if any trop species can handle it more than the MAF officers then they deserve to be here  .. because with global warming .. in 5-10 years they will be here anyway ... look at the bay of islands , frog fish and coral banded shrimps are already there , plus had word from long term diver that a lionfish was at the poor knights .... so it's only a matter of time... tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik .................
  12. can understand not transfering species between trop areas but temperate areas are totally different ... as I said before , have ya all dipped ya nads in tropical waters then tried it over here ...
  13. whoa!!!!!! .. think everyone missed the possible crucial point " WATER OFF THE ROOF INTO WATERTANK" ... must be a country house? .. and what cladding has the roof .. if an old villa/bungalow style , what paint is on there?.... if a new house , what resins on the tiles ?...this is a area that can host heaps of possible toxins ... would pay to get the water from the watertank tested ,... because you must also be using this for human consumption too !? ................... 8)
  14. are they all living in a cup! ?? :-?
  15. Can understand maf/doc having a bitch about freshwater species entering the country and gettin' into the local water systems but how many trop/marine sp would be able to adapt to our coastal ( brass monkey) waters ?... this I cant understand .. having dived off various reefs in asia I can no longer stand dipping my nads in our waters ( spoilt ) .. so how would a trop species adapt !!?? :-?
  16. Cool Driftwood Post edited. Remarks not needed. Moderator. Bill.
  17. Hey Gambusia are cool ... just ask my borneo tigers !! 8)
  18. Hey Reef , heres sum pics of a hermit , pics taken tonight , but wasn't from me OK hope these help .. sorry don't have macro on the digi' ....hence blurry shots... but he's about 2.5 inch (shell) .. cheers Klay. 8)
  19. I'd think twice about the fish ,.... ockies hunt at night so expect carnage there , they see fish with "food" written on them.. ..... as for kina etc .. should/could be safe .....one thing you can do is throw sum paddle crabs in the tank ... watch the ocky react with colour and skin texture changes.. have kept ockys with head size of a rock melon and they are the coolist to keep ( need large tank thou) ...
  20. Are you in Aussie , Feelers ?? have kept a few ockies in my time ... most bad points are that they move small rocks etc around ... pull filter bits apart ... have a massive ......... ummm.."excrement" moment every few days( and I mean MASSIVE) ... good filter intakes needed here .. plus they destroy any other thing in the tanks .. On the good side they are the most interactive species you could hope for ... real personalities ... you gotta luv them ... make sure the lids are weighed down other wise at the worst they will tank hop at night , at the best they will lift the lids and squirt you with water as you walk past to tell you they want food 8)

must be able run this in our cars too ... cheaper than petrol
  22. possibly but the pec fins where more like unformed limbs.... :-?
  23. hey monaro/E49 .. a couple of things to consider with the archers is the first will always dominate over any others introduced later just like cichlids unless smaller .. plus "toxotes jaculator" ( common yellow tail ) will always dominate "toxotes chatareus.".(black tail , spotted)..... plus if you keep scats you cant have a planted tank like this one ...( from my previous post) the scats will slaughter the plants .. try mono's instead but get 6 min otherwise they pick on each other... cheers ... lookin' forward to meetin' and a drink or five ...
  24. Ask a penquin next time you see one , maybe they can tell you if the polars speak french ... unless the penquins speak Norwegian ... then well ... ummmm... :-?
