David R
Nothing proves that cannabis lowers brain function. Actually a study has shown that heavy use leads to [on average] a 4 point drop in IQ. (and yes light use can actually lead to a small increase...) livebearer_breeder
Heavy use on the developing brain has some really bad effects, yes. Heavy use on an adult fully formed brain proves to make very little difference to pathways previously established.
livebearer_breeder
Also i like to always think about "everything in moderation", "heavy use" of anything should be discouraged across the board.

Heavy use on an adult fully formed brain proves to make very little difference to pathways previously established. They mention that adolescents who use the substance get the long term IQ drop. I'm not quite sure when the brain fully stops developing, if it does.
livebearer_breeder
That true but we cant ignore the fact that the most development occurs during your earliest years

SamH
I read that survey David and I'm not sure how they balanced it for socioeconomic factors. I'd say someone who uses heavily would not be able to attend school or work so it's not possible for them to retain their IQ level. So yes you could say it lowers IQ the same amount as not going to school.
camtang
I know plenty of heavy users that still work and attened school. surely you must have to add on the motervation in question to start with

(and yes light use can actually lead to a small increase...) I guess that was the study that said the IQ drop was for adolescents (did I hear/read started using at 13 years or younger?) and for adults that started using there was little to no long term effects on IQ? Sophia
there is a scientific argument to prove or disprove anything. People will justify what they want to using whatever means possible.
SamH
People will justify what they want to using whatever means possible. True. The people who support cannabis use will continue to do so and those who don't support it won't change either. Pointless arguing about it all, better to just let David enjoy his beer and disgustipated enjoy his herbal
