  1. I already have a female... so adding lots of males might result in problems Planning on revamping the tank fish, once I get it clean Want more blue rams (another pair I guess), a big school of cardinals, my 2 GBA (already there) and am eyeing up a royal whiptail too
  2. Apart from the fish, just Merlin (my Ragdoll cat) at the moment And other hobbies... Snowboarding (love it!) Art See: http://sylverleopard.deviantart.com/ :bounce:
  3. so 3 females and one male?? From reading previously I thought you could set up 2 pairs in a tank, and they'd each kind of have their own areas (or am I thinking gourami...)
  4. I think someones eaten them, as I dont think they'd have hatched so soon. Just eggs remnants left I *think* hard to see into the java fern. And they arent guarding as much. Least I can clean my tank now!! and a question, if I wanted more blue rams in my tank, is it best to get another pair? My male was hassling my female a bit, and I wondered if getting more girls would be better...
  5. hopefully not too much that will munch them (and hopefully not the parents!) Only neons in the tank, and a few bristlenose. Yeah, I know the bristlenose might have a snack, but ah well, will watch with interest Least they arent incest eggs
  6. Actually caught them in the act yesterday  Peered into my big java fern where they were sitting and saw a few eggs. Though "hey, thats not many, did you guys eat them all already?" but they were just getting started. Now a big patch of eggs on a leaf. Can't get photos sorry, camera wouldn't co-operate Do rams ever actually make good parents on their own? Don't really have the stuff to take the eggs out. Tried last time, and got the fry out and almost free swimming, but they disappeared (I added some java fern into the tank for them to hide in, and never saw them again) If they always suck at being parents, I guess if anyone local wants to take 10 litres of tank water and the eggs they can lol. Need to suck out the cyano in there and start treating the tank to get rid of it and I think it'll disturb the rams somewhat :-?
  7. I have a black background, and it looks good. Bought some plastic backing stuff from the LFS, same as every store stocks usually. Handy thing is the black is usually blue on the other side, so you can choose either or when you get it home
  8. lol kd, thats why I started this thread. I did a quick search first on the forums to see if my q had been answered, but all I got was threads of people arguing over the merits of cat and dog wormers... You guys want me to become a fish specialist once qualified and prescribe you the meds you need?
  9. ... what should I be using? or have on hand for when I get new fish? Should have asked this earlier, been at a vet clinic for the last 2 weeks (last day today) and I can hit them up for anything I need. Just curious, as have seen people mentioning they always worm their new blue rams or whatever, and am thinking it wouldn't hurt to dose my tank too?? Tank currently houses angels, neons, bristlenoses and a pair of blue rams Thanks
  10. Awesome fish photos!! And I think your unknown is a Boeseman's Rainbowfish: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_boese.php Well done on the stand too, you wouldn't even know its home made
  11. check out the swordtails online, they are bright orange like goldfish too. Hardier and don't grow as large either. All they need extra to be happy is is a heater
  12. Have you had a google yet? Lots of info out there http://www.fishlore.com/FirstTankSetup.htm And heres some info on the Nitrogen Cycle http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_ciclo.php For 9 goldfish you are looking at quite a big tank I think. The rough guide for fish is 1 inch of fish (adult size) to 1 gallon of water. Goldfish are messy and grow big, so really need big tanks to be healthy in. For whitespot, you will need to head to your pet store and get some treatments. I've never had to treat it myself yet *fingers crossed* so will leave the explaining to the more experienced in here Good luck
  13. Thanks for that Caryl. I'll let write that down and give it to mum for when her latest set runs out. She was going to buy rechargables and a charger when they did but ill recommend those first
  14. NIMHs? never heard of them. How much do they cost?? and where can mum get them from? If they last for a year and cost $20, they are still the same value as a normal lithium ion... too late for mum now tho, she has her camera lol (was a fly buys buy anywa, but still)
  15. wow Caryl, you say to avoid AA batteries? I would never get a camera that takes normal batteries. Mum just bought one this year (an Olympus) and it chews through them sooooo fast, whereas the lithium ion battery in my digi olympus lasts for yonks. Not to mention the fact that even if they do start to fail, it only costs $20 or under to get a new battery. Much cheaper than buying AAs all year
  16. Of course specs are more important than brand, but I have to say the ASUS laptops that both my dad and I have are brilliant. A computer knowledgeable (read: computer geek) friend of mine recommended them. When dads first Dell laptop got stolen he took the advice and got an ASUS and loves it (dads a computer geek too haha). No problems with mine either And I'd say try to avoid Vista. The laptops out now still arent quite capable of handling it (last time I checked), so vista slows everything down quite a bit
  17. oooo wow, I'll be quiet then Good luck with them! I think guppies are gorgeous, so its good to hear people are importing and breeding them And hey, this is your hobby, and hobbies are never cheap!
  18. Yeah I am going in for a check once I get my community services card (have sent away for it, just waiting) Have 2 on my back that have never looked quite right. Got them checked a couple of years ago at uni when they had a mole check day and the guy took one look at them and said they are fine, but I think I want them OUT Mum and I are two of those people that have lots of moles
  19. too late, saw how much in your other thread Photos when you get them??
  20. I asked at the last vet clinic I was at Fenris, and they said they didn't stock it (well, not in the strength tablets recommended on here) Must check phosphate levels first tho *sigh* in a few weeks time when I am back where my tanks are If levels are low, what do I do to get things back to normal anyway? Everyone says "oh, you can't just use ABs, you have to fix the problem" but still not sure what to do exactly...
