wow cool sounding colours, does anyone have photos to show off too?? I apparently have neon blue tuxs, but quite a few still have red in the tail. Planning to try and get them breeding pure. Picked up a black male today. An impulse buy, as you never see nice guppies in stores
-
Just stopped off in Animates for some cat food, and of course oogled the fish. In one of their display tanks they had 6 gorgeous male guppies. 3 reds (with a bit of yellow on the bod), 2 straight light blue, and a black one. Yeah, I walked out with the black... Shame they didn't have any black females tho, the only ones they had still had yellow visible in the tail Don't ask me why I got him, apart from the fact hes awesome  Spose I need to learn some guppy genetics to know what would happen if I introduced him to my blue tux females

What antibiotic type and dose to get rid of cyanobacteria?
Rozski replied to Rozski's topic in Freshwater
OK, thanks everyone. Will check my nitrate levels, and hopefully be able to get someone to check my phosphate levels and see if something is going wrong there. If there is something clearly wrong that I can fix, do I still needs the ABs or is correcting the imbalance enough to kill the cyano? -

Nitrates were normal last time I checked (a wee while I have to admit, I get slack when everytime I check things are stable, plus had exams etc) Not back to flat till this weekend, so will check everything then. Like I said tho, had a tiny smidge, took it right out the tank, blacked out etc, and it just grew back. If it grew back from nothing, I dont think I could clean all my plants and driftwood well enough now to get rid of it? Big java fern etc, and don't want to damage plants (they already endured a shift a week and a half ago) Will get store to check phosphate levels then :-) -

Thanks ron, Do you know how much is in a tab though?? Tho I can wait patiently for Caryl to post again tonight 8) Coz otherwise knowing my luck, I will go, "hey, can I have a tab of erythromycin?", and the vet will say "in 50mg or 100mg?" -

Well what can I change then? Tank is run just the same as my smaller one, which I don't have a cyano problem in. Low light, but getting better lights for christmas to make my plants happy. Though cyano likes light, so I don't know if increasing light will help... Rainwater used (as in other tank), standard pH, nitrates etc -
and how much is one looking at paying for a RC drift car and controls? Just curious. BF jokingly said one of those would be good for xmas, but I somehow think its out of my budget

Have had it in my big tank for quite a few weeks now, and getting sick of it. When it first cropped up (a smidge in the floating plants I had) I scooped it out and blacked out my tank for 3 days, but it came back. Don't want to black out again as fish came out other side of blackout looking very pale and sad (and minus one young danio, which must have wedged itself somewhere, who knows) Wondering what type of antibiotics, dose, how to etc I need to know to treat the tank. Hopefully can pick them up easily enough (doing prac work at vet clinics lol) In tank are angels, neons, danios, bristlenose, blue ram - will they be ok? TIA
-
lmao awwwww, I don't want a munted balloon ram  Would go check out the home bred ones in Wet Pets...but alas, I am in Hawkes Bay  Not to mention if they were any good I am sure you guys have already been in there and cleaned them out! Anyone also want any guppies at some stage? Someone from here offered to give me some neon blue tuxs. I only wanted a trio, but got given 16 haha! Also half of them have red in the tail.... Planning to keep a few solid blues as a start to try and get them breeding pure... maybe...
-
lmao shadowfax! how many is that now?? You can balance your naughtyness by selling me your blue ram you know And I don't see you moving any time soon African  One tank is bad enough, I can't imagine the hassle with a heap of cichlid tanks! Arent they horrible at hiding inside rock formations when you want to catch them? My only problem was the danios. Had to get tank down to 8cm of water, then trap them in the corner using a rag to be able to net them

Not that I have seen them!! Shifted flat in Palmy last weekend then came back home to Hawkes Bay. Bought them online and they got dropped off today in Palmy. The bf is taking care of getting them into the tank, but I wanna seeee theeeeeem Hopefully they are alive and actually visible in just over a week when I am back Mental note, shifting large tanks is stressfull, even when it goes perfectly smoothly haha. Not again for a year at least anyway! Anyone else have new fish?
-
I shifted flats last weekend, had to shift my two small tanks (22 litre and 35 litre) and a big 170 odd litre tank. Essentially did the same thing as dimebag for my big tank, but completely emptied it. Fish all into one 20 litre bucket. Drained almost entire tank into big plastic garbage bin, rest of water went into two 20 litre containers. Dropped driftwood into bin with water, as well as plants Scooped gravel out into bags. Shifted everything over and filled it up again. Transfered water from bin into the 20 litre containers for transport. Went very smoothly. I didn't leave the gravel in as it would have been far far too heavy to lift safely and I didn't want to risk the bottom falling out/cracking under the strain Good luck!

 wish he'd died happy at a ripe ole age tho! Got fry to almost free swimming (in their own tank). Dropped a ball of java moss into the tank for them to hide in, and they disappeared, never to be seen again haha Rams!
-
Hmmm, when did they start not buying imported ones? Coz I have heard from more than one person who bought rams (I guess from there) that have had the same problem of dying off. I got a pair, and the female is still going strong. The male was thin when I got him (shouldnt have bought him really) and he just got thinner and died eventually. Bought a gorgeous male from the other LFS (big, colourful, the works) and he spawned within a couple of days with my girl, before promptly rolling over and dying within a week  No more unless locally bred thanks!
-
heh, I *had* a female until it went the dwarf gourami way and got ulcers and died  Males went the same way, but quicker Have yours bred Mal??
-
and a pic courtesy of the internet Mine didn't have any stripes at all though
-
Not the best shot, but see the female at the bottom? Thats how big a diff the colour is. They are really grey-brown
-
The animates here in Palmy has a massive staff turnover. Seems whenever I go in there theres a couple of new faces. They can't hold down staff at all. Had a manager early last year that was fantastic with the fish, but she left due to conflicts in interest and it went downhill from there....
-
Fantastic photos! And I LOVE your tank!!
-
Mine do that, but after I feed them I assumed they were gulping air when they were taking the flake food at the surface. After eating their bellies would be big, and they'd be darting downwards, as otherwise they'd float upwards lol And after a while they are fine again
-
Well, its actually JBL Nobil fluid. Same diff tho I guess. Will wait then before feeding how many? *lies down on floor to count* lol the tank is on the floor, and with only 4 inches of water, I need to lie down to see them  And I can count 15 on the bottom. Only a small tank, so probably didn't miss many. Better than the zero that I thought I had
-
Seems a few managed to survive the fungus that took over the eggs. There are a few scattered around the bottom of my tank. They aren't swimming yet tho, just sitting on the bottom (they are alive, their tails wiggle) I know you feed once they are free swimming, is this free swimming or do I wait until they are actually 'swimming' and off the bottom? No green water btw, just mature tank water. Can chuck java moss in there though. Oh, and I have liquifry somewhere which is what I am talking about feeding them
-
everywhere I looked it was people saying that rams make bad parents  Hopefully they spawn again. Male is currently sulking in the top back corner of my tank :-?
-
mmmm, all good until I got home this afternoon. Only had the odd egg turn white before now, and today, half were white. Scraped off most, but of course there are remnants left which I guess will spread to the rest of the eggs. Added a bit of formalin just now (had it here, saw it recommended as an antifungal and thought, why not) But I guess thats this lot of eggs out :-?

Gonna be tired tomorrow... Just set up a small tank with 3 inches of water, a heater and an airstone. Have picked off the leaf of java fern with the eggs and put it in a net in the community tank for tonight. Will shift it to the smaller tank tomorrow when I get some meth blue. Could put them in the smaller tank now I suppose... letting the water and temp stablize in there first tho I feel so mean though. The male was guarding the nest and fanning the eggs so nicely. Now both parents are looking at where their eggs were Probably wake up in the morning to eggs covered in fungus...
