  1. well funny thing is is that he has been called out to work on some DOC huts over in the Fiordlands which could keep him there up untill thursday. I wonder if he woudl notice a new tank sitting there! haha. Then again I don't have a table or anything to put it on lol. Think it might be best to wait. I sure do hope I can at least get the bulk of the scratches out!. When we move house I am going to put the front to the back so the scratches will be hidden by plant cheers
  2. That is very similar to the snakeskin that I got from the LFS a month or two ago. Its body patter follows down into its tail but mine isn't as solid yellow as yours. Depending on the angle you look at mine it can look anywhere from a orange/yellow colour to a yellow/green colour. I have tried to take pictures of it but its just not possible as I just can't get close enough with my camera to take a clear picture. I currently have mine with my yellow/golden females One has had babies so hopefully next drop of fry I hope to have some snakeskins
  3. LMAO WOK ummm that won't work here. Its more along the lines of " Your NOT having any more tanks. You only wanted one and now you got two and you only wanted guppies and you didn't care about the babies. Now the babies have their own tank! so NO MORE TANKS!!" so yeah lol I am in the talks of a 3 ft tank because I want to strain breed my guppies for selected colours then use my 2ft to breed bn's and bettas (if allowed lol) Going to look into the polishing compound over the next couple of weeks and see how many of the scratches I can get out.
  4. yeah I only get an advert to for webshot or something like that. No fish there, just two cute kids hugging for the camera lol
  5. Cheers for the quick response. I will be looking into it real soon. I know its only 80ltrs but with the two multi plugs that are on the floor between the 2ft and 20ltr fry tank I really don't want my tank to go lol. I know there are many of you that have tanks that make mine look like a jar of water and I wished to have tanks that size but I got to work really hard on convincing my husband that bigger is better  Once again, Cheers
  6. My lovely 2 1/2 yr old daughter got a hold of one of my husbands small grinding wheel and has scratched the front of my tank. Is there anyway of getting some of the scratches out? Would the small holes/chips (from banging it against the glass "hate to know what the fish thought of it all") create a weak point and cause the tank to crack?? I don't want to lose 80+ ltrs of water and all my pride and joy on the floor any help much appreciated. Cheers
  7. I have got a sailfin molly doing the same thing. I noticed that the bigger one was picking on this one and the next morning it was bent and swimming about in circles. Now and again it would come right but then it would be right back to swimming about it circles and always in the same direction. It still feeds fine and is still alive and lately its been slowly comming right. There was a point where it was swimming either right on its side or upside down! lol. I have been told that its when their swimming bladder or lung has been punchered (thats going by the LFS info) as they showed me one that was doing it in their tank. Maybe it was the same thing for you. Its not fun to watch and it is horrible feeling soo helpless. Sorry for your loss Caper.
  8. I had this develop in my 2ft when it was new and it went everywhere from ordaments, gravel and my plants. Thats when I got a bristlenose in and I have never seen it come back I don't know if a bristlenose would be ok with the sort of fish you mentioned to be in the tank but I am sure others will be able to clear this up for you
  9. I have been told this very same information and I instantly thought that it was off. Fish from the tropics don't have only 4-6 hrs a day as stated above. I have come to learn to not take the LFS word for everything but to research it and take what I class as the repeative information. I have gone through many sites which will say a lot of things but now and then you will get some information that is repeated over many sites. But thats just me. If in doubt you can always ask here btw Welcome aboard

    He's alive!!!

Thats quite weird as my bn's (female and male 3 inches long) are always out and about. My male expecially comes to the front of the tank morning and night at feeding time. The female is still getting used to things so it will take her a little longer to do the same. Its just that I got a shit camera to get good photos with!. My catfish are always "posing" at the front of the tank and the only thing that I have noticed that startles them is when the kids are running up and down the hallway. Apart from that all is good Still an awesome looking catfish tho! The only plecos that I have seen at the pet store is a snowflake and red spot. Very awesome find Might have to take a trip to dunedin and see what they have there

    He's alive!!!

invercargill is now down to only one petstore (totaly sucks) and I have never seen any catfish of this kind (or any other unusual kind) in this store apart from the common bn's and their bigger brothers and a small variety of corys. You guys are sooo lucky to have a good selection of stores to go to for your fish
  12. ok have found a place that will do a 3ft tank for me. I won't be getting it just yet as we are looking into moving house if my husband likes the one that I have picked! lol. I would like to divide it into 3 x 1ft tanks using the clip on dividers so I can seperate snakeskins, orange/reds and black blues easier. With this set up could I get away with one heater (middle) with a filter that is at one end with a long tube (outlet) at the other end of the tank so its creating one large cycle? Would this work? I currently have this sort of divider in my 2ft tank but to really get more black/blues I need to remove the reds from there. This divider has little holes in it which allow water flow through with out fish getting through. Comments much appreciated.
  13. I am waiting for my biggest golden female to drop her fry as I know she was pregnant before I got my first snakeskin. For some reason this female only drops fry every 2 months. She gets very big and I do have to admit she does have a good drop each time. Most of my fish only have about 20-30 fry per drop but this one has a good 60-70 fry per drop so I don't mind to much. Hopefully once she has this drop (hope in the next few weeks) I can get a good drop of snakeskin from her next time I also have any females that are showing good colouration which I put in with the snakeskin. I don't want to add dark ones yet just incase the darker colour over rides the genes for the snakeskin pattern on the body. But heres hoping. Once I get a few more and females to carry on the strain I can then look into adding another colour. At the moment I will stick to the yellows as the snakeskins are both yellow in colouration Cheers
  14. when you say "flashing bristles" are they the ones behind the lip (the spikey ones that look as if they can hurt?) or the bristles on his upper lip? I have seen him heaps of times come up behind/beside the female and extend his bristles from out the sides of his head (almost in line with his eyes) and then goes after her. How can I tell when she is ready? She is fatter than the male but does she have to be super fat to lay eggs? cheers
  15. good thanks. Hes in the divided section of the tank with the golden females and the other snake skin Hoping to produce more yellows
  16. I don't know if this site will be of any use to anyone or if these pictures are of any "pure" strain but I thought that it might be enjoyable none the least so I thought I would share http://www.tropicalfishintl.com/guppy.htm
  17. going to use the holdfast 202 clear stuff. I have seen it mentioned earlier on in this forum for what people used. I have already had a look at some silicon and it does say not suitable for fish tanks so I will keep looking untill I find one that is suitable But with my husband being mates with guys at plumbing world I can get it with a discount
  18. monaro one big problem for me on trademe is that I don't live in that area to pick the tanks up and there are none in my area apart from one that I know off which is $150. And all the others say that they won't ship so I am stuck there. My husband is a plumber and works with sealent all the time and knows the importance to get a good seal or it will leak so I have that advantage on my side (lets just hope he does a good job!!) and with him being a plumber he is able to get the silicon cheaper and time for me is no big worry as I have nothing better to do with it apart from look at my fishies all day hehe. I have rung a couple of places now and its going to cost on average $50-$60 for a 2ft tank and $85 for a 3ft tank. I am sure I can make my own tank (2ft or there abouts) for less than $50 I would love to get tanks off trademe as I have seen heaps there that I could of had for less than $60 but problem is that they are all up in auckland, hamilton or wellington so once again I am out of luck in that area. Cheers
  19. Alan you have it right. I was thinking bay front as in 3 sections of glass to make up the front (viewing) area. But I have decided against that now lol. I was looking at about 250-300mm high as thats the glass that is cut down at the local dump. I will just need to get an extra piece of glass cut down to suit for the two end pieces. Its just a small tank to either house my pregnant females so they can have bubbas in peace or to seperate my orange/reds from my black/blues. The legenth (after looking at the glass they have which is 6-8mm thick, I think lol forgot tape measure) is about 2ft long if not a bit shorter so I won't be going 3ft like origionaly thought My husband and I are going to give it a go and I shall look into taking step by step photos as to how I do it (that is only if its successful or you will all be able to see where I went wrong! hahaha) So I shall keep you posted. cheers
  20. cheers for that As for the little pot I have already been into the warehouse to have a look and their smallest one is to big for my tank and is basicly the same as my rock cave. I will get a pic of my cave up. I have been feeding them frozen blood worms (thoes that make it to the bottom for them to get) as well as sinking pellets, courgette and beefs heart and liver. They don't get all that every day mind you lol but thats what they get through out the week plus any flake that settles to the bottom that the fish don't pick up. I guess I will just have to wait. I was just wanting to see if there are any tell tale signs that I need to watch out for cheers again. I will let you know in about a months time or so if anything happens.
  21. Can anyone tell me what to look for when the female is ready to breed? I have had the female with the male for a week this sunday. The male doesn't seem to be chasing the female as much as he once was. They are both the same size (give or take a couple of mm ) 3 inches. Would it do any harm to add a piece of 20mm plastic pipe? as I don't think the female likes the rock cave that I have in there but she does enjoy the shallows in the drift wood and it would be nice if it was to happen there as it is in clear view. What can I do to improve my chances of breeding these two? Food, Temp? cheers
  22. ok I am now considering a basic 3ft tank or a 3ft with a bay front kinda thing. So holdfast 202 clear for the seal and if I was to do a bay front how would I go about bracing them? Would 8-10mm glass be fine? If I had my own glass how much would it cost to get someone like smith & smith to cut it to shape? Would like to give this a try cheers
  23. AWESOME! Love the coffin handles on the front of the tank there. Really adds to the affect How much would it cost to get you to make one?
  24. WOW love the red tail on the second one Very nice
  25. any chance of lightening them a bit? its very dark and hard to tell colours. Cheers
