LOL I was talking about the chasity belts that you put on your young female guppies. Well my husband wants to do that with our daughters. With not getting any fry I ment this time. She was due to have babies anytime this week but obviously I wasn't going to get anything this time. The fry that I had from her the time before were 80% rejected because they just didn't develop their fins properly so I had to dump them. I have also had a lot of fry that when they grow up their body shape is very skinny and lanky looking. Not the plumpy rounded tummy that your supposed to get. But I will not feed them for two days and see how we go. Cheers Bill for the quick response. I was ready to pull my hair out this morning and I was all as I thought I was going to lose the whole tank.

lol my husband has thoes on his daughters lol unfortunatly I didn't get any fry off her but I do still have one other 1/2 black female just that this one gave me bigger drops as the other one is smaller. Well water change is done, lets hope that the problem starts to dissapear!!

yeah I picked up on the ammonia prob a couple of weeks ago and have been doing daily water changes since then and checking the levels daily but I have never seen these things before and believe me I do spend a lot of time kneeling in the hallway watching my beautiful fishies. But will be saddend today becuase one of my best 1/2 black female died.

the tank is mine and no one else in the house feeds them or even bothers to do anything with the tank. I did a water change yesterday which is what is bothering me. I have had an ammonia problem for the last two weeks which I am slowly getting down with water changes which is why I can't get over how these things seemed to of appeared overnight. The only thing I can think of is that I added two new pieces of drift wood to the tank they had been soaking and were often rinsed under hot water and scrubbed. Going to do a water change now and its only 8am!! I won't feed them in the morning no more and only feed them in the evening to see if this will come down or would I be best to feed in the morning and not at night? I have been giving them frozen blood worms and livebearer flakes. Totaly freaked out at the moment

What could they be?? My female guppy that died during the night even after trying to help her get her babies out. I have discovered this morning that there are a whole pile of little white worms on the side of the tank expecially where the breeding trap was that she was in. Am I in trouble and how can I get rid of them? Cheers
-
well the first one has come out and looks as if it has since died but she now has the second one stuck. I think I will give it a go and try and see if I can help her get them out. I would much rather lose the fry than the fish. I will let you know how I go. Lets just hope its not to late

Well as of today I have noticed that her vent was really wide open and swollen this morning. It is now 3.30pm ish and there seems to be what I feel to be an over sized babie comming out! so far (after 2hrs of watching) the head it out and something else weather it be eggs or her insides I don't know. Is there anyway possible that I can help her with out harming her? I have her in a breeding trap as she was getting chased big time from the other fish thinking free food and the males were to busy thinking about their pee pee's hehe so please any help would be appreciated. I don't want to lose her if I can help it. She is due to have babies sometime in the next week or so but I have never seen her vent swell up this badly before. Really confused and getting stressed

I can't see any of the pictures. All I get is a little box with a red X in it. I have right clicked and then clicked on show picture but it doesn't work. Any chance of some new pics? Would be very interested

cool. Thanks for that caserole. What sort of formula for the weak bleach solution would you suggest? I don't want to make my plants white! hahaha Would christmas time be a better time to get plants? I doubt that it would matter as being in southland the waters are always going to be freezing cold! lol
-
Sorry for your loss. Its really a sad thing when this happens but it does happen to a lot of people with many fish.
-
Caryl when you got yours did you put them into a cold tank then increase the heat or did you just wash them and put them straight in? If I can do this then it would be a real easy and cheaper way to start my plant production tank

Is it possible to get plants from local streams and put them into the tank? I have heard that there is some that are dangerous to put into the tank as they release bad things which will kill the fish. Can anyone show images of some sort as to which ones are ok to put into a tropical tank? I got a 3ft coming at some stage and I don't want to pay a fortune to plant it out if possible. Keeping in mind that I am in southland and the streams are currently VERY cold lol Cheers for any info

Hey there Beachy my husband would like to ask you about your car. We also have a Mazda Eunos 500. He wants to know which engine you have in it and blah blah blah. You know lol the usual male questions when it comes to cars Cheers PeneJane

She hasn't had fry in the last 2-3 week and I would of thought that she would of had a large spot by now but its still small and she is fat! She wouldn't eat last night and they had a bit of frozen blood worm and flake and all she wanted to do was get out of the way. I haven't checked on her this morning yet and I am a little scared to. I only have 3 good large breeding females in the tank as the other ones are still young but I suppose there is always an end to everything thats good Just a real sad thought

WOW !! Never seen that sort of light before. Where could I get one and the fitting for it? and at what price would I expect to pay for the setup? Would it be hard to wire that up to the wiring from the single fluro?
-
HAHAHA my Bristlenose would get shitty if he doesn't get his Courgette every day! I cut a 1cm slice off then cut that in half again so he gets like a half moon shaped of it. Seeds included and he eats the lot! as well as the sinking pellets and any algae he can find. My plants don't show one sign of algae from what I can see and neither do any of my ordaments. The only place that starts to show any form of algae is the piece of driftwood which he bearly visits as he is to busy in his rock cave and shooing off any fish that come near his courgette. Is there any chance of getting a picture of this so called U shaped light? Just so I know what I am looking for or so I can get my husband to keep an eye otu for it and will they fit into the normal fluro fittings? or do I have to get special plugs for all this? Cheers

One of my main females is looking a bit off. I noticed this morning that her colour was fading. Shes a 1/2 black and where it should be black it is almost seethrough. Her tail is slowly changing from dark black to a much lighter grey and her tail is dropping (back bending down) She looks fat but her scales are still smooth and her pregnancy spot isn't big at all. What could be wrong? I know I got a bit of ammonia problem at the moment but its comming down with water changes daily. She is a lot worse than this morning and she didn't eat this morning either. The last meal I saw her have was the frozen bloodworms that I got yesterday. please help

If that is possible and for a reasonable price (can get a specialised plant growing light for my size from my LFS for around $40) then I will consider it. I am also getting a few more plants and I am wanting to keep them alive which is why I am going to give these sticks ago. It says a stick per plant but I am going to put one stick in and have about 3-4 plants around it so its not all going to one plant. Since my bristlenose I haven't had a problem with algae at all. I don't even use the magnetic glass cleaner no more (used it like 3 times since buying the tank) and the tank looks soo clean from no algae that my BN looks bored! hahaha not that I am wanting to grow algae as thats just silly but I am able to handle a bit more. Its a normal fluro just short. Fitting included its 18inches long and I can only buy 15watts in this size from local trade stores. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers

I have seen down here on the country roads of soutland that some put down sand on the icy patches in the dangerous areas but in general a scraper comes out and scrapes the snow (if any) off the roads and bobs ya uncle

Well there is no way I can get a 40watt bulb for my tank as I discovered today I need to get a huge 4ft light to hold a bulb that runs at 40watts. My hood only holds the one bulb and its 18inches long not two foot. So I am going to give these in tank fert sticks a go. They are like the balls but are in sticks instead and have been told that they work pretty well. Its called Plant Gro Aquatic Plant Fertilizer by Nutrafin. So since I can't get my lighting right I have no choice but to give these a try. I shall let you know how I go.

I have done some searching for you Caper. This site has fish that are for sale but you can see the difference with the tails and top fins for the sailfin, lyretail and normal molly. You can apparently get a sailfin with a lyretail or a lyretail with normal dorsal fin hope this isn't to confusing but here you can see the different sorts of mollies and their fins http://www.petsolutions.com/Mollies-C-40001594-C-.aspx

with the floating riccia I have only had about a 20cent piece die off. The rest of it is still there and doing fine. With the light being so poor would the floating riccia be the cause of my other plants not doing so well?
-
my hood is molded and will only hold the one light with out a lot of cutting and changing which I really don't want to do. My tank is only 2ft with an 18inch fluro. Its also the same light that was sold with the tank as a kit. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what plants would be better in this sort of light instead of changing a fluro thats not broken or physicly has anything wrong with it (seems like a waste to me) I like to make do with what I have so any suggestions on other plants would be awesome What about reducing the hight of the water?? would that help?? Cheers
-
well my hood only holds the one fluro bulb. For a 90ltr tank what should I be running? Rembering that my tank is 50cms High so its a little deeper than the average tank. Cheers
-
well I got my home Co2 system working well (finaly) and for my 90 ltr tank I have a 15 watt fluro with FL6500KT8 written on it and I think the brand name is Degen. I just don't seem to be able to get the nice bushy looking plants that most people seem to. My tank still looks like a load of cutings! Even the red stuff that was given to me from someone here (sorry can't remember who you were or what the plant is called) I got two very small bunches of it left Time for some nice looking plants and not having to buy plants every month to keep ti looking nice
