  2. BG, if they are green, that's what they are. WTF are brown. Alan
  3. Don't think it is Chris, used to farm out Clevedon way years ago. Thanks for the offer tho. As a point of interest, there is a place just east of Papakura, that farms green bell frogs for export. Alan
  4. Where does your auntie live Chris? Is it in a WTF area?? Alan
  5. I know for a fact that WTF are in Otautau, Wainuomata, Palmerston North (Froggsville) [Jan Paynes], Rangawahia (brothers farm). I've tried to get a colony started here in Whakatane, but haven't had any success yet. Any donation of spawn would be appreciated in the spawning season. I'll pay for the p&p Thanks if you consider me. Alan

    hi

Two things Canzz, nay three. First welcome to OUR site, hope you'll join in and enjoy yourself. We have a chat-time most evenings about 9.00pm Now, who says that you can't have a planted tank with u/g filters, just about all my tanks are filtered this way and I have some reasonably good tanks. The third is that you will not have a successfully planted tank with silver-dollars in it. This fish is God's design of a masport aquatic mower. Alan
  7. That's why I say NO ! ! Alan
  8. Bad move with the filter Leave it on ALL the time, or run the risk of the "goodies" dying, then being pumped back as "badies," and wiping out the tank when the filter is restarted. Hasn't effcted you yet?? Wait for it. It will bite you. Alan
  9. Don't start until they get up of their lil' butts and start swarming, when they do that, you'll know exactly what I mean. They will take BBS at that stage by the way. Alan
  10. Pies, can you please enlarge upon your"ribbed for her pleasure" hose?? Alan

    Hello all

Welcome to NZ Varun, and to the FNZAS Forum. You have not got where you are living or your age. Just being nosy. There are clubs dotted around NZ that I'm sure would make you very welcome if you wish to avail yourself of them. The "Salties" on this forum seem very dedicated bunch as you'll no doubt find out. Alan
  13. This type of pond lends itself towards a cold environment. The cost of heating it would be high with the cost of electricity going up all the time. The goldfish have several species, that have been bred to admire while looking down on them. You don't say if the pond will be set into the floor(what I want to do). On the floor, or raised onto a plinth. If it is one of the last two, then maybe a glass or acrcylic panel could be inserted with the idea of being able to view your choices. The heater, plus filter, in a spa pool also makes it easy for the filtration and heating of it, if you are so inclined. Isn't it fun dreaming?? Alan

    Chromides

Haven't seen them round for a while andy Alan
  15. The ones we were careful of were the scaleless ones Because they come under the fisheries act Alan
  16. Alisha, unless you have a heated swimming pool Don't even go there They should never be in the hobby because of their size Alan
  17. I was a foundation member of the native freshwater group of NZ. We had no probs. DON"T get white bait when they are whitebait out of season. When they get to a point where they are not "clear" and have there own id. go for it. To protect the species, do not aim for the big ones. Get the teenagers. Try not to handle them with bare hands, and learn how to bag them without taking them out of water. We used furanace in our holding bags as a preventative to skin damage, they are super prone to whitespot and velvet, so I should have said, as a preventative of those diseases. Try to get some of their water in their stream and add to their new tank, then add aged water to top it up slowly. They can make a real kewl display. Watch the temps in the summer, oh !! what summer. Welcome aboard Cliff. About time too. Can't pick that "yuppy" accent from your typing tho. Alan
  19. Who? Me? Never !! But I may have been joking tho. Was going to write back and suggest peas, but as Caryl already has, I wont suggest peas, that are cooked, squeezed out of their shell, and half squashed, and given the ailing animal. I just wont mention peas. Alan

    Bo!

    I found NEMO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ! ! Alan
  21. Another thing to consider if you have just got them from your LFS, is that a lot of the plants are grown hydroponically. So you are putting emmersed raised plants into an immersed state. Something a lot don't appreciate too much. Alan
  22. Grapes Grapes are the answer to that little prob Just give them what they can eat, and woopsee, fart, off they go again. Alan

    Hi im new

and where are your killies???????? Lovely fish the Altums How big are yours and wot did they cost each?? Welcome aboard alan
  24. My turn. You are allowed to import goldfish, BUT, they must be kept in Q conditions all their short remaining years. (3 I think). Then they are then destroyed and checked by MAF, or whom ever, that they are destroyed. Like where are the bodies?? But the off-spring are then the rising stars. Reason it's not done? Too much trouble with the work and security involved. Alan
  25. I'd do it from some one eles puta I am paranoid Alan
