  1. I realise that Stu, but it was the first time I had actually seen them free swimming. So!!
  2. Sorry Rogan, was it you? Did I show a slight elevation of delight when I saw them? If so, then it was you that was with me. Forgive me if I was wrong, sometimes it is a bit hard to recall what I did in the morning, littleown a month ago.
  3. The first colour that attracted me to the fact that I had baby neons was the blue. Stu was in the room when I first saw them. OK, only two, but about a week ago the trio that I had went wild in the mass of tangled indian fern. So thick that you can only see half way thru the tank. Well I went out 3 days ago and saw that the heater was glowing red. OK, I was early and the lights were out at this stage as I was going to torch the tank. Alas, I almost burnt my hand in the water. Of course, heater one Tetras zip. Then to top it off, I missed out on getting to see Origin Aquatic when we went north the other day. Oh well, another tank to clean and set up for guppies, or maybe even killies, but definately neons again at a later date..
  4. Gannet has a real good tank up on TradeMe at the moment. Go to the TradeMe section here and check out his auction.
  5. You'll need to have a lid on it for that type of schooling fish. I had 6 arulius barbs that paniced at lights out and I found them all over the floor in the morning. I was bummed out with that lot. They were all close to 150mm T/L
  6. Turn the temp down three then and see what it registers when it turns itself off. Make sure that the element is not directly down which causes a hot water flow over the thermostat.. Once you have finally found out what temperature setting fits what you requie, write it on a piece of card and atach to the end of the lead. You could write it directly onto the plug if you want. eg. 23oC = 28oC Then set up accordingly. They aren't precision instruments when all is said and done.
  7. The worming substances that are discussed on this site appear very haphazard as well, sometimes reading that it has cured the problem by killing the fish!! Yeah right!! So I don't see much difference to what ever is used in the tank. Too much salt can also have the same result.

    Mangroves?

We told you already even. Draw a line across from Raglan to Ohiwa. Anything south of that has made an error of judgement. Same with Kauris, they finish naturally at about the base of the Coromandel Pen..

    Mangroves?

LOL have you seen the price of archers?? You must have a money tree Millet. Forget the mangroves and take cuttings of the tree you already have.

    live foods

Lucky to get any that haven't been been contaminated by the flyers. A year or so back I got some from Bio S. and those were contaminated, got a replacement, that was stuffed too. Got my money back and they admitted that they could not be certain that they would be the wingless completely. The situation may have changed now if they have got in new breeding stock. I'd be interested in some if you can find them Barrie. I have micro worm, white worm and in season, daphnia and mozzies. In your days of last century Barrie, we were able to get tuberfex by the lb. too. The fish loooooooooooved that.
  14. cichfanatic, if I knew where you were in Auck I may be able to help you. Bad luck that I don't know where you are from your location tho.

    Mangroves?

On this side of the island, I think that the Ohiwa harbour is about it's southern boundry
  18. I would say that the gold gouramis could be in for fresh fish food if you added them. JMHO.
  19. Thankyou RJ, I have shifted it over.

    Filtration

I'd go for a decent air pump, a big one, you know you'll need it Barrie, and go for the sponge filters. You don't have to worry about babies being sucked thru a system then. Cheap to run and easy to clean. Not taking you long mate. When was it? Last Week or something that you got in touch?? Stop thinking too. You ARE NZKA 113
  21. You are correct Hayley, don't let them swim out, net them out and discard the water in the bag to the nearest flower pot.
  22. Definately around. One of the few killies imported on a regular basis for the LFS trade. Some NZKA members are breeding them at the moment.
  23. It could be that the tank has been assembled using NON-acetic silicon.
