  1. I think if I was doing a pond , I'd be letting it leach for a while and giving it an acid wash before I considered sealing it. This gets rid of the lime that will kill the fish otherwise. When building cowsheds we used a product called isinglas, used in the brewing of beer for clearing the fines, and my Mother used it for preserving eggs. What happens on concrete is that it goes on like water, and when it is dry, the concrete is covered with what is easiest to discribe as, glass. This can be done several times with it drying out between coats. If the milk can't eat it then it MUST be good.
  2. I think that person is a forum member, hopefully they'll read your post and act appropriately. Come on you Whangerei members.
  3. I have just been informed that my address is an undeliverable address and I have now sent it to you twice with the same result.
  4. That says it all then. Like I say, coldwater fish should be able to survive a winter outside
  5. Keep your water level down to about 75mm in the fry tank with temp up to 26oC and a tight lid. This gives them a moist atmosphere that is warm. One of the main reasons for high mortality rate is not doing this.
  6. Any NZKA members that have not as yet received the June Newsletter. Please let me know asp. Email or PM ONLY

    Fry food

Never heard of egg white being used, but it is common for breeders to hard-boil eggs, eat the white themselves and use a small portion of hard yolk and add water, emulsify then feed to the fry. When doing this it pays to have a gang of cleaners in the tank. Snails.

    Fry food

Egg also pollutes really badly so make sure that they literally eat it before it hits the bottom. Boiled peas, shell, and squished goes down a treat for them too. They'll take any dry food now and also still enjoy bbs.
  10. Go to Aquanuts post and see his pics. He has some good pics. I had one taken a while back thru a magnifying lens of a young killie, the same as Tim's

  12. Your turn for The Spoon Caryl.
  13. See your LFS and askif you can have the address of Aquarius Imports, Auck., or Hi Way Fisheries, Te Puke. Both could probably get them in for you with their own imports, Show Qual., but they would cost a premium tho to buy from the exporter. Prolly have to do a money up front too.
  14. and as the opening line says 'HELL YEAH'.
  15. I don't think that there are any lizards, native, that you can keep in NZ without a licence.
  16. Or go here, http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/new-va ... 14664.html find his post, about 4 down, click on the PM under his name, type your query in the white box and hit submit
  17. and who are they Reef??
  18. Try some streams up the Waitacks, or up the top of the rivers out at the Hunuas. Nice Sunday trip. As for the odessas, they are not cold water. Coldwater are fish that can live thru winter outside. Maybe if you said that they can live in an unheated aquarium inside, I'd go for that. But saying that they are coldwater could mislead newbies, just like the c/w guppies, NOT.
  19. Bluetom said The price was mentioned, so add on the postage to the trademe cost.??????
  20. Who said that Wok is joking? He just uses smilie faces to fool ppl
  21. Check the Pet Shop, Taupo, they have bred otos, but when I got back to them, the tank had been sold LS&B to Tropical Blues. Apparently for the plants only. Maybe if you were to check with them, Trp. Bl., they may be able to tell you what happened to the fish. Check with Rob Torrins from the Waikato Aquarium Soc. He had a lot of success with his pl*cos.
  22. 7.3 x 3.75 x 3.75 = 102.66  Had 6.23 instead of 7.3
  23. Nah!! Those aren't ramshorn eggs. Not like mine anyway. Mine are in small, no bigger than 5mm across clear jelly=like substance, with the eggs inside of it.
