  1. Sorry to hear that becc4
  2. Learn how to hatch Brine Shrimp, from now on called BBS. They'll pick food from the parents sides for a while. But not being a drip under pressure, I'll leave it to the ones that are, to explain the finer points of feeding
  3. Ouch, and lucky. Those tingles are sent to warn us. maybe I should learn from you Dogs. Nice looking unit too.
  4. Like you say Reef, only strains. If ppl are breeding them for the Breeders Award, only the "straight" species are recognised. The "strains" will go thru as discus - spp, and only one will be able to count. I think using the wild strains we were able to get 7 breeds. Too bad ppl like the changes to the wilds.
  5. Depends entirely how you care for it. Love it heaps and feed four times a day and it'll be popping it's sox in no time. Just chuck it in a tank and feed it once a day and it'll take twice as long. I still can't figure out, how long a piece of string is tho.
  6. Have you an airstone bubbling beneath them. They don't like to dry out.

    hey everyone

Ha ha, those names ring a bell. The good old conference days when you had billets with the locals, and got to know who you stayed with well. A few of us here will recall them.
  8. I think the lionhead is the same as the oranda but NO dorsal fin.
  9. You could get different species and put in. If you wanted you could then on-breed them and boost thie numbers. One of the best tanks I ever saw was a river scene with about 50 male Aphyosemion gardneri. Or are they now called Fundolupanchax.(spp) Name changes.
  10. From the top Lucky you. Yes, saves hassle for the male who defends. Hiding places for the female, and instead of a cup you could use floating indian fern. Bare bottom, easier for the babies to be found and to find food later and to clean. No smaller than a 2footer. About 75oF, that's what I did mine at anyway. No sweat on the queries we are here to help if possible.
  11. I have seen a similar thing to what Sharn describes above. Except the mix was rooled into a scone consistancy, then made into aspirin sized balls and flattened slightly so that they looked like multi coloured pills. He just used flake food as the binder.
  12. First of all you need a pair. You may think I'm being a bit flippant saying that, but it appears that the males are few and far between. Then it is just a matter of conditioning them up. Have a floating half polystyrene cup on the surface (split lengthwise) and when you see the male staring to do his bubble nest, you'll know that you aren't far away. WARNING Keep hands away from the vicinity of the cup, as the male defends this area very hard. The first time I got caught with an attack, and the only time mind you, it was quite a shock.
  13. Could also blame their buyer as not seeing the market as others see it. TradeMe is a fair indicater of prices, and as in a shop if the price is too hot, don't buy it. Bet the buyer doesn't buy a line like that again huh?? By the way, who are you ghostknife, be nice to see you go to the welcome section and introduce yourself. I won't go there and welcome you, I'll do it now. Be interesting to see what fish you have bought from them.
  14. By the time it grows to its full potential, it should have learnt how to do three point turns. But By then the person may have got it a more compatible tank. Moral is that little silver sharks grow into big silver sharks. Their mouth gets bigger also, same as their diet. Got it??

    Typical female. Big mouth.
  19. Just depends what ones you are kicking to the kerb HFF. Why not chuck the cars out of the garage and get some new tanks. You know you want to. Also, the cars won't get wet if left outside. Don't think it rains there does it??
  20. Notice is hereby given to our NZKA Annual General Meeting being held as follows: Time: 1pm on Saturday the 14th April, 2007. Venue: Elin and Erling Jensen, Sorry this is only a week away fellow forum members, but I thought that I would put it here for your attention. If you are interested in killies, come along. They are hoping to put on a show of their fish. This will be followed by an auction. Love them. Cheapest fish out. Sometimes. Also a chance to get highly valued peat with eggs of rare and almost impossible to get, killies in NZ. If you intend to visit, why not give Erling a ring so as to allow for the catering. Yes, a catering is being done and I dare say, some wine and ale will be around as well. Did I say that it will only cost you $15.00 to join this club?? So if you belong to another club and affiliated to the FNZAS, that is all it will set you back. If not, add another $10.00. May see you there.

    Jellyfish

She tells me that on a programme on TV she saw what she was told about the birth of j/f. It apparently was suggested that when the corals spawn enmasse, the ends of the coral where the expulsion takes place, is the start of a j/f. The end cap if you like. Now you can see where I'm coming from??

    java moss

What sort of glue did you use??

    Jellyfish

My know-it-all daughter has just told me where j/f come from. Now what she told me sounds a bit far fetched. Can some knowledgable saltie out there (don't all rush) please tell me what they "KNOW" to be correct. I may have to shout her a beer on this one, cause I have no idea. Thanks
