  1. Interesting to say the least. Alan would also like to wish you a happy sojourn here and welomes you. He thinks.
  2. Short answer is no. One of the neccessities for them to spawn is the same as for seahorses. Depth of water. When they spawn they twist their way up thru the column of water. Females are easy to tell from the males when conditioned as the females get really fat. But when the belly goes a toothpaste green, she is ready to go, because that is the colour of the eggs in her gut. I haven't spawned them myself, been close, but not quite. But others have, mainly thru the "Wow" I thought I only had five in here and now there's more than ten, and most are smaller than those big ones, syndrome. But keep trying. Mine loved white worms

    A Few Pics

Did you get those Fronts from "you know who"??
  4. Aren't they putting on a going away party for you Tom??
  5. In other words Warren, all the blue smoke that keeps them going had escaped??
  6. Take it outside to give it a good hose down on the drive and accidentally drop it. Claim insurance. Dum-Dee-dooooo.
  7. Ben while we are on the pics, can you please click on "ENTER" twice before adding the next pic. This way they will stack up downwards instead of crosswise, which then stretches the page making it very annoying to read following posts. Thanks. By the way, I did an edit in the last lot and gapped them for you.

    sexing young BN

Actually at that size it is simple to sex them. Put them in a small tank and using a magnifying glass you can tell it is a male, well, if it is just the one, 50% chance of being correct.
  9. Why not all of them Wilson? Some give you a bit of a hard time??
  10. They don't call him Toro for nothing. But if you sign the visitor's door he is a sweet little pussy cat; nothing.

    Dissapointing

Because some narrow minded ppl put the wrong canontation to the abbreviated form. Apparently less than 50 knew what I meant and the rest of the world thought I was a red neck. So it is now KBK instead of KKK. Keep Breeding Killies, now. 8)
  12. He is saying Tim, that as soon as his sparky, who lives in Tauranga, has come up and finished his wiring and plugs, that he is going to come down and buy up some stock for his fishroom. Sounds lkie barrie is concerned that you may give away too many before he gets there. Obviously, he hasn't seen your room.

    Co2 Kit

Don't know the answer to those Candy. But I don't know why ppl just get back to the basics. and save money. Make your own beer. Set up your brewing pot beside the fish tank or run a pipe and you get the best of both worlds, cheap beer while you appreciate the plants in the tank. Pass the glass and jug please.
  16. I have had them for over 15 years but start watching for the joint failures which show as a whiteish colour coming thru rather than a nice clean green joint.

    to cold?

Don't even go there, they can get very nasty. As Rogan says they ain't no algae eater. All you have to clean is your glass, so just get yourself a magnetic cleaner.

    to cold?

When you ask that question I'd say NO. But that is because my idea of a coldwater fish, is one that will survive outside. Read what I wrote about the temp inside your house and consider. Is the house insulated?. How is it heated?. Is it kept heated all the time? In other words you aren't away from the house for days when the heating isn't on. Get your thermometer out of your tank and put it in the open air above the tank. Check the temp at 7.00am and 7.00pm those are prolly your coldest and warmest that site will get.

    to cold?

Axies don't need heat to start with. Your house temp should be about if not higher than the temp you say you want, so IMO I wouldn't worry about the heater.
  20. Tsarmina, how old is the tank? If it is getting on, then you may have to strip all the tank down and do a rebuild. Probably a daunting job for someone that's not sure on what to do, but you have a lot of knowlegable ppl down that way. I agree with the choice of Chris, he knows what he is doing and if you get him to have a look at it, I'm sure that he'll give you a fair appraisal of the job and what it entails.
  21. the seam is starting to part. Strip it down properly and reglue the seam. What has been suggested is only a patch up. Next time it might not be so kind as to go slowly.

    Ph

As it comes out of the tap Barrie, and if you use peat in a small box filter hidden away at the back, you'll get a slight tea colouring and your water pH will drop slowly and not too far. Near enuf to wot C said. KBK

    My Favs

Prolly cause our smugglers aren't as good as theirs. Not saying that you should attempt it either. But wouldn't they be nice.
  24. I presume you are in the Chch club. To join the NZKA will cost you only $15.00, and to think that you would be paying $50.00 or more a pair in the shops, IF they have any, makes joining the NZKA a very viable option. Not to mention fish that different members have that are NOT in the shops. To keep them in a community tank also depends on what the other inhabitants will be. Also, as I have warned so many times on this forum, your lid on the aquarium, MUST be killie-jump-proof.
  25. Black cobweb or false katipo spider (Steatoda capensis) Meet a South African migrant that can have people wondering if they have a property infested with katipo spiders. Thats the one that bit me. I caught it's mate and now have a spider pet in a bottle. Had it for over a year now, and it is one spider that wont be roaming the house again.
