  1. Thank you to all who responded to my call for help - I have brought a UV steriliser and within two days the tank is clear. An expense way to go but well worth it.
  2. my tank is 2ft and currently looks dirty - all tests are fine - have added acu-clear 2 times and still not coming clear with the 24 hours suggested - temp is 23. Been to Hollywood fish farm and they have run out of ideas. When I look at the water taken out of the tank it looks clean - could this be algae - have put in carbon and this has not cleared this up and I have no idea if I should add an algae treatment when using acu-clear - It is a tea colour. Have taken out driftwood as I though it was tannins leaching but this has still not cleared up after several water changes - It looks slightly clean after a water change - last one was 50% before I started the acu-clear but gets dark and dirty looking again. Please help - not sure what I should do next. Just to update all - glass is clean and tank has existed for about 3 years only had problems since I added a heater and been on holiday tank has had light on more often - could this be the cause

    My tanks

    6 golden barbs
  4. I had a skunk loach in my tank with a few other community fish, incl corys and snails - but as soon as I added my 4 bristlenose he chased these until he killed one and seriously harmed the other, which died after a day - I have removed the skunk loach to give my other two bristenoses a break, Is this common? I did have 6 of my borneos die unexpectanly when I introduced him - he is about 10cm
  5. Thank you willing to try anything

    My tanks

I have 6 white clouds, 6 barbs, 6 albino corys, 3 pepper corys, 6 leopard fish and 2 bristlenose - in a 2ft tank - is this to many?
  7. My aquarium was cold water and I added a heater set at about 23 - PH level is around 7 and other tests have come back normal - yet I have a cloudy tank (greenish) - I have taken out the carbon from my hang on filter as I was told this would absorb the chemicals and added filter wool which I change every second day - have added water clarifier but this doesnt seem to be working - it is a 57 litre tank - has anyone out there any idea how to fix this so I can see my fish again - I have white clouds, bristlenose, cory catfish, barbs and leopard fish - this has only happened since I added the heater. I did have driftwood but took this out hoping the water would clear itself. What else can I do?
  8. Has anyone tried converting a spa pool into a pond - we have a empty spa which seems to be a breeding pit for mosquitos. Would love to know if anyone has converted one of these into a functioning pond? And if so how did they go about it - my spa is build into the deck so a step down type.
  9. Strange I know - warm smell yet cold water to the touch - I Have had this tank for almost 8 months - this is my breeding tank for leopard fish and my Borneo but all of a sudden I have this warm water smell when I take off the lid - I have a small world filter system in there and do regular cleans 25% each week. Can anyone suggest what it could be - have live plants in the tank and an an oxygen shell which I favour - just curious if anyone else has experience this, and whether I should be concerned?

    Borneo Suckers

I Love these little loaches - does anyone have any for sale, or know any pet shops that stock these in Auckland - I currently only have one but looking to get more. If anyone has had successful breeding I would also love to hear from you as I dont really know much other than the one I has is very cheeky.

    Leopard Fish

Thank you for that - I have 50 babies at the moment that I am currently shifting to a bigger tank - lovely little fish. I have three adult females, I beautiful adult male and I adolesent male that I have successful breeding from. I seem to have more luck with fry from them than I do from my White Clouds which are kept in a seperate tank, if anyone has tricks I would appreciate it.

    Leopard Fish

I Have what the Jansen Pet store call Lepard Fish, they are live bearers and the females are larger than the males but both are spotted - can anyone tell me what the real name of these fish is - I believe they are closely related to the Guppy but are kept in cold water
