  1. In the states, (and probably Australia) you can buy the whole thing as seen above.. tiny octagonal tank (sic), harsh coloured gravel, and betta. Seems quite common for college students in the states to get one for their dorm seeing you can buy em at huge chain stores over there. Funnily enough there are forums around filled with "my betta is dying - help!" threads :-?
  2. Apparently white pidgeon.. I'm unsure

ah wells.. girlfriend got the uber bottle of white spot cure stuff from the LFS today, so have dosed the tank, fish are looking a lot happier, so will see how things go. There was one dead baby b/n, but that may be unrelated.

okie.. I keep temp where it is... Is there anything else I should be doing before I can get something from the shop for this? or do I just have to wait it out and hope?

yay, another whitespot thread. Seems the clown loaches have this in my large tank, and some of the other fish (incl discus ) are showing signs of it, but nowhere near as bad yet. So... today was waterchange day, so I vacced the gravel as per usual, and changed about 15-20% I've turned the heater up some, temp was 27, it's now 28, how slowly should I raise this? and where to? I have sea salt here, should I add some of this to the tank (there seem to be differing views), also how much if this is a good idea. Also.. should I be trying to find someone up here with spare white spot medication now, or will tomorrow afternoon be okay? (this will be the soonest I can possibly get to a shop) Hummingbird mentioned he uses copper sulphate - is this available in any form at a supermarket? (that I can get to tonight ) I think that's all my questions.. info below is for your reading pleasure: Tank: 4x2x2 430L Inhabitants: discus, guppies, kribensis, SAE, clown loaches, skunk loaches, bristlenose and some random killie fry if they haven't been eaten. Parameters, pH 7, Ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 0.
  8. If they're anything like cichlids.. yes
  9. Cheers edit: lets make that a sarcastic cheers shall we.....
  10. Seriously, they make rabbits look like nuns (as someone told me once  ) just give it a week or two, keep em fed and they'll breed
  11. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/La ... 710243.htm I'm asking here since you salties use them so much but seems if they are it could be an option for the planted tank
  12. heheh I'll have to teach em better I'm sure sometime i'll get "feed me" too
  13. When the fish tell you of course (for those who miss it.. it says "hey" - and it was on the glass when I got home.. go the golden algae eater )
  14. They do what they say... well from experience anyway, couple of drops of chlorine remover in bucket with tap water and I've never had issues.
  15. gorgeous? hmmmmmm different strokes for different folks I guess :-?

Definitely do Ammonia. Main sign of an uncycled tank is Ammo off the scale, nitrite and nitrate near 0 because the bacteria haven't built enough to convert the ammonia to nitrite yet.
  17. 4 or 5 days in a row? You should be fine without, it also depends on the size of the tank, my 4x2x2 planted tank seems to have enough natural food/whatever to raise mystery fry without me adding anything
  18. Coffee table breeding tank would be cool, divided into four or something only issue is getting power to it I guess
  19. Sounds like time to invest in pink batts
  20. One of the glad "disposable" food containers would work just fine
  21. if you see wriggling things in the water you're doing it just fine syphon em out, rinse and feed away
  22. The shells are brown and will float.
  23. hmm.. time to start testing pH night/morning too then.. However.. I ran the airpump last night from lights out, and when I got up this morning I didn't have the same "fish all at top of tank syndrome" so I think it definitely helped. (believe me, with ~200 baby bristlenose it's pretty obvious )
