    tank progress

Glad to hear things are coming along, progress is fun I went and saw cookie extremes tank the other night, was well impressed The "less is more" thing with rock is definitely cool, liking the tanks I'm seeing with that a lot.

Can you two just start your own thread? so we can ignore it?
  4. Something tells me I would need more light than I currently have for this Ah well
  5. Purely as a comparison, 4x6000L/h Seios, $600, 2x12000L/hour Streams + Microcontroller = $1300 (pricing from overseas). So it's twice the price, but you get all the wanky features (and less pumps in the tank) Not endorsing either, was just an interesting exercise
  6. I have 2x820's and they seem quiet as?
  7. I had the opposite.. CO2 injection and not a huge amount of light, but everything else in the tank was growing insanely. The ricca kinda sat on the top of the water and didn't do anything, so it got given away.
  8. I'm sure he's got the kids on stirrring duty, keeping the current up to normal levels
  9. That sucks... weather up here is absolutely nuts though, Thunder/Lightning etc, and enough wind that our building is swaying which is always fun with the tanks. Hope everything comes back together okay cracker.

    Bacto-zym?

Looks like another version of "cycle"
  11. hah! Marie (girlfriend) just decided to tell me that there just wasn't enough flow in the tank. Who am I to argue?
  12. I think I paid $30 for 10kg, got about 8kg free from someone on here (thanks!), and that's all I've used.
  13. I just got coral sand from Jansens, mine's only 1" thick at the most, and the powerheads styled it into a wavy pattern for me
  14. It looks like most of the stuff on the top is actually geting created by stray bubbles coming from the skimmer (there are still quite a few). Would kind of make sense I guess, just need to wait longer I guess (or so I've read) for the skimmer to stop leaking bubbles back into the tank and see from there.
  15. Reefcentral tends to disagree, as does the rest of the internet unfortunately. (about availablilty ) Had a couple of ideas this morning, that might also go a long way to helping hide stuff in the tank, so will have a play once the gf comes back with the car and I can go shopping
  16. I doubt it.. just watch and see how he goes.. you can always wipe the algae off if he gets lazy
  17. Yeah... $0.31/L is a bit pricy If you can, buy more salt at a time, keeps the cost down (i.e. 20-25kg at a time or more)
  18. Should be fine, they're not the most social of fish, even when breeding (mum turns up, kicks dad out, lays eggs, runs off again and has nothing to do with them)
  19. That's looking great makes me wish I owned my own place heh
  20. Ahh, I saw those on my travels (go google), will have a look at HFF tomorrow.
  21. I didn't just spend 10 mins finding all the new snails I got tonight.. honest
  22. So.. I have a tank with no sump, which means I get buildup on the surface of the water, which I don't like. I found this when having a search on the net, wondering what people's thoughts were on it, possible issues etc. I'm running a deltec MCE600 hung on the back of the tank, so this mod looks possible, just wondering what risks I would run, i.e do I hit issues if enough water evaporates and no water runs into the overflow box. http://www.seahorse.org/library/article ... mmer.shtml

    return

They do help with that, however they just seem to heard the organic type stuff into the low flow areas on the surface (corners right behind the powerhead, who would have thought). Need to devise something that's an overflow type arrangement, but doesn't dump to the sump, just circulates it back into the water column so the skimmer can have it's way with it.
