  1. I am very impressed! Do you think this could work in some little town in NZ? I feel live on the dole and have one big reef tank!!!
  2. You would have to have good patience when selling your tank!!! lot of simple questions. "Can I add a oscar to the tank?"
  3. Wow What a mission..... good idea
  4. Three differnt frozen foods and four differnt dry foods....

    heating/cooling

About 800L 2 x 300watt heater in the sump under the house and they are set at 24deg. They are controlled by a Resan CL650 Chiller, 1/4hp. I'm assuming this will be too small in summer as it is rated to 650L. It's worked great on my old tank and the temp would vary 2deg. Hoping that with the sump under the house and a nice breeze I won't have to buy a new chiller. Well it some time to summer and the wife will have forgotten how poor this tank build has made us and bingo a new chiller.
  7. Yes the million dollar question!!! Am I over feeding. I have no idea but the tank is a wash with food each night and it takes a few minuites for it all to go. 1 x frozen cube 3 x pumps of Marine gro fish food 1 x small teaspoon of spirulina flake This is about what I need each night... Might be a little too much?
  8. Chimera the paint colour is Navy and it is quite dark but still blue, sprayed on. The OM Rev's are great, they give great random flow through the tank, I am not running as much flow through these as I wanted. Sharkey the trigger is good, I got him when he was quite small and he has never bothered any of my shrimps. The heaters are to be relocated to the sump. Over flows are noisy but I like them. I am looking at few options to reduce the noise. Looking much clearer today.
  9. Well its finished but the hard work starts now!! Everything is rough.... because you don't know it will work. The cost so far for re-plumping alone is $$$$ Dam! So here it is after filling with salt, emptying and fill it again$$. Plus $$$$ hidden from the wife. Always wash sand! Kevin and Chris visited today and gave advice.... 3hrs after they left tank finished. very wise heads!!!!!!!I I wish they had visited before I started. . So I stuck with the design from my head. Not that this what have, true. Dam rock never stays where it is put! Left my fire shrimp on the driveway for 5Min but he is fine swimming around now. Did not realise he was there as I was breaking up live rock for the sump. Now the hard work start making it tidy, After the time it has taken I had had enough on Friday!!'> Now the hard work start making it tidy, After the time it has taken I had had enough on Friday!!
  10. I waited a week and it did not clear.... like heaps of cement dust. Be warned.... settled on everything and the slightest movment and bingo a cloud of dust. I added a big bucket of sand unwashed when side tracked.
  11. Very true.. I have 2 x 6100 stream in the tank I think they can do the work. Adding salt agin after not washing the sand enough and had to empty the tank and start again.... flow is quite good when I watch the salt vaper get blown around with just L7 and no streams. I think I will stick with this. Should have stuck to skatboarding...

    freshwater shrimp

Could be ghost shrimp... so they call it. Got sucked in to this one once!!! Paid $30 for local shrimp....... dah.. sucker
  13. Iwaki pumps? How many watts? Might be 400W same as the pump I was going to use!!!
  14. Thanks Ira... yes two pumps in series. I have nothing to lose as I am able to return the pump if it does not work. Will let you know. What spec is the iwaki and how many watts?
  15. I have a cunning new plan... 2 x pumps. L7 from the sump to under the floor than another pump to give it a boost in to the tank. Total 180watts.... half the cost per month. What do you think? Also re plumbed the skimmer and pump retutn, I hope this will work.
  16. Dam I don't need another $50 a month on my power bill. With the L7 the flow through the OM rev's (2 work at a time) is very little. I can only just feel the flow through them 3inch away. The 20,000L pump makes them work real nice with good flow out of them. I have 2x 90deg's and 2 x 45deg fittings in my return pipe with about 3.5m head. The 20,000 pump will only be flowing about 10,000l with head loss. I will also have 2 x 6100 streams in the tank. Am I better to run the L7 with little flow and the streams? Will this be enough flow? There is still too much for the skimmer alone if I turn down the sump tap. This system will cost $120month to run with the BIG pump and 2 x 250MH + 4 T5'S and extra skimmer pump and heaters etc I have $300 amonth now bill with my 4ft. Dam Dam. Can the 850 return from the skimmer go through a bulk head fitting in to the bottom of the sump? Or best to feed from the top of the sump? I have emptied the sump and are replumping. Anyone what to come for a look in the weekend and offer some advice? Help Help
  17. Added 20,000L /hr pump - 400w but its doing the trick. What an effort all this is can't wait until I can relax after all of this.
  18. Well all the sand is in and its starting to clear. I will add more salt to lift the level and add some rock from my tank. How long should I let it run before I change over?
  19. Dame its all glued... but I guess I can unglue it some how!!! Added a new pump to day 20,000L / hr made a big differance, only problem is it is 400w.... more power!!

  22. I have hooked up the skimmer and the water is surging from my over flow in to the skimmer. I can't keep a stable water level. Also had to lift the skimmer so the return gravity feed back in to the tank. Picture of the plumbing where I have teed off the over flow. The bend in the in feed pipe may not help? (far picture where the hose goes under the skimmer return) Skimmer Any ideas to get a stable water level and no surging.... 1060 pump?'> Any ideas to get a stable water level and no surging.... 1060 pump?
  23. Very good, they are 180deg rev's so they don't blow water to the rear of the tank. I also think my L7 is under powered. Two of the revs work as once and there is not a lot of flow through them. Tank still cloudy, did not wash the sand very well and are paying the price. Two days now and it has cleared a little only. Will need to spend some time with a gravel cleaner once it's settled more, then I'll add some more pictures.
  24. I need two of these!! What can you people tell me about them? Where can I get them? Reef safe also!!
