  1. Well what a day!!! Second coat of stain, painted the back of the tank and added handels. Stain is not dark enough, Kauri stain was used and the test bit at Bunnings was quite dark. Wife agrees that the stain job is SH&T. OH well. That is the stain and finished as dicussed. Now the paint... Navy colour, wanted black board paint as dicussed in an earilier post but found a post latter on the Net saying next time he would go with a really dark blue instead of black as it will add some extra deepth to the tank. So the darkest blue I could find was Navy. 3 cans of spray paint. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/Arronhooper/IMG_6075.jpg Hope to move the tank inside tonight.... will post!!
  2. Very pleased with my new tank... all that effort was well worth it.
  3. Anyone interested in something a bit differnt?? 911 building..... or a ceashed sub!! Need to buy a model......NOT'> Need to buy a model......NOT
  4. The stand needs some knobs and a coat of stain. Will do this over the weekend. '>
  5. Very nice.... I look forward to the upgrade!! Only joking BUT it will come.....
  6. The tank is located about 20m up the driveway so its only good for one direction. That is 20m head. There is a company in Papakura (down the rd) who breeds cray fish and use a local water delivery company. They suppy the pump to the driver. They have said I can use their pump or should I say the driver can borrow it and collect my water when it suits and deliver. Very nice of them. They are collecting today after all the rain. I am not quite ready yet. The tank is full of 8yr old fresh water and the tank has a metal tap at the bottom which will need changing. Most say there are still nice people in the world, I have only spoken with this guy twice on the phone. HFF put me on to a guy who put me on to this guy.
  7. I shut all the taps on the 850 and filled it up with fresh water and then run the air pump. Should I see lots of bubbles or is saltwater and 1000l pump needed?
  8. It looks like I can get 25,000l of saltwater delivered for about $400. Doing water changes of 200L / week this will last a good 2yrs.
  9. KP.... I would go with what feels good. As you can see from my over flow it was not flavor of the month. I like it. They are small and don't take up much room. I am also using long hose that goes down through the elbow to reduce the air sucking sound and it works well. Not super quite but I don't care. Looks cool to me and it is differant. In the end of the day they all work.
  10. Puttputt... this info is for the new calcum reactor PF600 not the P600. I'll keep looking on the net. cheers
  11. Slapper thanks for the info. I got these from Ebay Germany..... $1000 for both landed. Where can I get spare parts if required? I was planning to use my 1260 to run the skimmer which should be OK. I will get a new air valve from the garden center. Any ideas on the P600 reactor air line tubes? '>
  12. Can you help set up my AP850? Where does the water enter and exit this skimmer? Blue or gray tap? Why two taps and it looks like the pipe on the blue tap has had skimmer water running through it? What size pump do I use to run it? Any help would be appriciated. Also any idea what all this air line inputs are for? How does this P600 work? Where does the water enter and exit? What is the red knob thing?
  13. It is done..... no water leaks is the best option oh and a coat of paint. Thanks
  14. I have started on the sump stand under the house. I was going to do an "L" shaped stand but that looked like to much work. The top will be 2m long and 1200 wide. This should be enough room for my sump and equipment. Top up water will be stright from tap through a normaly closed soliniod then the filter and in to the sump. No tank needed. Also if I utilise the 5000G water tank then it will be the same for saltwater changes.

    Bulk sea water?

I have a spare 5000G water tank sitting at the top of my driveway in the garden. It is for water transfer to our main tank as a truck could not reach it. We have been here for 8months and have gone through summer with no issuies and we had some dry spells, so we have not needed this tank. We are in Hunua and it rains GOOD when it rains. Anyway the previous owners said they never ran out of water in 8years... so the sort of fresh water in the spare tank at the moment has been there for years. Thinking thinking that maybe I could get this filled with salt water? 5000G will last a very long time and I could automate water changes with my PLC controller. Will the water last? I know Jansen get water truck in so I should be able too. Any idea on cost? Who does this? Is it worth investigating? Thinking about the cost of making ASW for my new tank, at least $130. So if it cost $300 - $400 then it a bargin in the long run. I will need to run a hose about 50m but it is all down hill so no pumps required. Sounds made for the job.
  18. Well the smallest one of the two died today I still have the larger one so I hope this one lives.
  19. Thanks for the comments. I have euro style bracing at the front of the tank and I think I will add it to the back. Good call. The return pump is an L7. Man it's got some grunt. Might remove the top glass and add some plastic mesh to the over flows. Any ideas??? what I can use?
  20. Well the tank stand is ready to fit the doors and stain. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/Arronhooper/IMG_6025.jpg I have filled the tank and are water testing it with the sump next to the tank. Must say they do make a little noise but hard to say how much as the noise from the water flowing in to the sump is the loudest and that will be under the house. The pipe just dumps the water in the sump which does not help. Everything is working well... the over flows are handling the water no problems at all. I still have the glass on top of them with about 20mm gap.
  21. Good then I'll give you $30 and you can send me your fittings... what about $50 and you can make some profit.
  22. Wasp I like your style.... no way of damaging anything.
  23. Slappers, Where did you get those fittings? Might be easier to go from 250 -150 than 150 -250 because of the extra heat. But most manufactures try to have as many common things as possible.
