We have a 6week old baby so I avoid the bedroom at all costs, except when all things are quite.

Lighting 1 x Arcadia Series 3 (2 x 150W and 2 x T5 blue) I have an Arcadia T5 setup with 4 x T5's. As my Series 3 unit has 2 x Blue T5's can I change the two blue bulbs too white in the T5 setup? This would mean I will have 2 x 150W 2 x T5 Blue 4 x T5 white Will this be enough? 1450 x 750 x700 tank

What is polly? I have polystirine base but the issuie is lifting the tank and placing it under the tank. Dam heavy. I slide the tank on top with some help of a freind but I would have to lift stright up and place it done on the polystirine other wise I will wreak it. Will need 4 people for that. The base is 21mm and is machined flat on one side which the tank is sitting.
-
I have not put polystirine under the tank. Forgot but I will when I move it inside. The top of the stand is nice and flat, will it be safe to water test the tank on the stand with out polystrine? I want to run it for a good week or so to iron out the bugs etc. '>

Back to bussines: Visited Cracker today.. WOW what a nice setup. His tank is very good. Rates with the best I have seen. His over flow is impressive, if mine turns in to a disaster when testing then this is how I'll be doing it. I vote reef meeting at his house!!!! if mine get within 80% I'll be a happy boy. Thanks Cracker for the invite. The frame of my stand is finished. Now don't tell me its not strong enough!! Next is the pine on the outside and doors. Plus trim around the top to hide the base etc. This is my current tank and the WALL... dam wall. Can't drill through the tiles (not allowed) so I was going to go down through the wall but NO its braced under the floor. So I'll be going through the wall and down behind the entertainment cabnet. I'll lift the carpet and drill 2 x 60mm holes. If I ever sell the new owners will wonder what went on here. The next picture is under the house, the wires are my stereo outputs on the other side of the wall, can't drill down through that. Do I need to brace the floor? Rather be safe than sorry! Next picture is where I'm planning to build an "L" shaped deck to position sump, skimmer, chiller etc. You can see the wires in the back ground which will give you an idea of distance the L7 pump will have to pump. 50mm pressure pipe from the plumping shop 6m length $135 they offered me a deal at $75+gst. Para Pool shop make all their own and 6m length of 50mm is $49. Tell me whos ripping off the public / tradesman.

Cookie & AW.. you are correct... I am impressed that you spotted it. Sorry everyone but I have to post a picture of my baby... This is the fasted two stroke ever built for the road. I told my wife I was buying an old classic crusier. I lied but if I did not I would never have been able to buy it. I love the power. I don't have a picture of it with all the fairings on so I have used one of the RG500 web site where I brought the pipes. The other picture is at the moment as I have just completed a gearbox rebuild after blowing it up on the way home from a track day at Taupo.

Well here are some pictures of the cabnet frame laying down on its end. All glued and screwed. Time for bed... Tomorrow night I will add the legs'> Tomorrow night I will add the legs

Here is the other option Hansen fittings. I think I like this one the most. Nothing to block and no stainless steel screws - not that they where to be used. Just more simple. Here is the post where I got the design of the overflows, check out how mush flow this guy has and plans to have. http://www.reef-eden.com/DIY%202%20.htm Thanks for the comments, the more discussion the better as things always change on the way. Plus the sump design where talks about the flow through his tank. http://www.reef-eden.com/diy_4.htm and the design of my tank stand, will be differnt on the outside as I will have stain pine etc. Great ideas though. http://www.reef-eden.com/DIY1.htm cheers... friday mmmm beer
-
And more $$$$ than we win in Lotto
-
The top glass can be removed if needed. I could also lower the overflows as cracker suggested if needed. I hope not. Also thought about the spa fittings, if alge grows on them under the top glass I can't clean them!! Maybe the hansen fittings are best. Or I remove the overflows completely
-
The top of the over flow lip is 30mm from the top, I am going to use a L7 return pump which will be approx 6500l/hr at 2m head. remember the overflows are twin 50mm. Can't be louder the my current overflow pipe which is a stright pipe.. I can hear that in the bedroom. Kind of nice going to sleep listening to a water fall. Oh then the chiller starts which we call the 747 as we can't hear the TV from the kitchen when it starts. We have been living with this for ages now. Need that sump under the house. I only hope we don't have to move when it's finished.
-
Cracker you are correct.... I wanted to do somthing differnt but it is a little (LOT) scary as it is un tested. I have no idea where the water level will sit until I try it out. Need to build the stand first. Too far down the road to stop know.

wasp.. the 30min button is just a standard button which will tell the PLC (programable logic controller) to turn off the skimmer for 30min. My whole system will be programable! Just a heap of inputs +program telling the outputs what to do.

Well my new tank arrive yesterday. Had to have a beer and just look at it for a while, long while. My wife thought this was strange. My 2yr old boy was running around with a BIG spanner making me very nervious. I have to wrap it up when I'm not looking at it. 12mm glass x 760l, minimal bracing (I love the space in side with no big over flow) Gregg $460 including large sump. Oh I love a good deal. It looks so BIG in my garage.... shame it will shrink when its full of water. Back to bussiness. Here are a couple of pictures of the tank and my over flows!! Let me know what you think... not that you all need to be asked!! I am looking at options, the fitting showing is from a pool shop (spa intake) and their stuff is cheap. 6m x 50mm pressure pipe is $49. The fitting is used in spa pools but I am unsure about the screws you can see, they are 316SS but I'm sure they are still no good in a reef enviorment. If I go with these then I will glue them on instead of screw. I also have 50mm Hansen bulkhead fittings on order tomorrow so I need to descide which I will use. They are all returnable at this stage. I will be using 10mm airline in the elbows to eliminate nosie of the overflows and the top glass is just sitting waiting for water test to set the tank water height before siliconing in place. The two over flows will go in to a tee with one 50mm feed in to the sump under the house. This tee / tap $50 from the pool shop is tuneable to slow or stop the over flows if needed. 2 feeds in and 1out. This ball valve is cool I'll show some pictures when I buy it. I have purchased all the timber to build the stand which I will start tomorrow night. I need to brace the floor, bulid a sump platfoorm under the house and wire my control system in the comming weeks. So much to do I think I'll have a beer. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/Arronhooper/IMG_5952.jpg

Well the little fishes are still alive.... 12 days now and I have not seen them eat. I have gotten up in the middle of the night when they are active and tried feeding them Mysis but NO. They are very active at this time so they must be eating something. Can't wait to put them in my new tank as they are a littke scare by the other fish zooming around in my current setup.

Love the tank.... who made the stand?
