  1. Raising the temp just shortens the Ich parasite's life cycle, so it goes out into the water more often and can be killed by medications. Raising the temperature alone won't kill it.
  2. Graeme I talked to my mate and he's happy to give you one, I'll pick it up from him when I drop off the jewels and get it to you after that.
  3. Do they really need a heater at all though? They prefer around 18 degrees c water, which I think should be about room temperature.
  4. Sorry to hear he/she didn't make it. I had a dream last night that had a molly that looked just like that in it (could have been yours but I used to have one that looked exactly the same too), it was in the ocean though and it was like 50x the size of a normal molly!
  5. Preliminary results from comparative analysis speculate that they're spelt the same.
  6. Don't know what the actual problem is, but if it is a fungus (and even if it isn't) treating the tank with Melafix or a similar antifungal will help.
  7. Alright, thanks for that Caryl, I'll make sure they stay seperated. Am I correct in assuming that the Swordtail is just a man-bred variant of the Plattie?
  8. I just got given a couple swords and a plattie and was going to put them in the same tank. I've been told this isn't a good thing to do as they'll cross, can anyone confirm/explain this?
  9. The time it takes all tannins to come out/the wood to sink varies from piece to piece. If you use hot water and baking soda it sinks faster.
  10. Plus they're way smarter.
  11. Well Plecostomuses can actually be acclimatised to cold water.
  12. The dictionary I've just consulted defines gravid as "Carrying eggs or developing young."
  13. Yeap it's copper sulfate. It kills all invertabrites so it's also good for treating white spot.
  14. Your guppies are probably trying to mate. They're both males though so they probably won't have any luck
  15. Well one of them's a classified where as the other's an actual auction. Permissable I guess.
  16. We're in winter at the moment (I'm currently huddled next to a heater), it actually hasn't been too slow at all so far, we've had a steady flow of people coming through. I've seen the new tank, congrats on getting it by the way If you don't have any plants in the tank, the lights are really just for you to see them, so you can turn them off whenever you like.
  17. I'm alright, a little bored maybe (just at work at the moment), yourself? I think that weekly water changes should be fine, I wouldn't bother about testing any more than you usually do.
  18. Yeah that's fine, but just make sure you keep doing regular water changes, because when the water evaporates all the minerals and other stuff that's in the water doesn't, so it gets concentrated.
  19. I'm pretty sure that's a fully aquatic plant. I've got tons in one of my tanks, the leaves die off after a while but new ones always grow in their place.
  20. The one I'm getting is already in FW I believe, so I may be in luck
  21. Got this from http://www.fishinthe.net/html/section-v ... .%20Monos-
  22. I just got this off an auction on Trademe: "Almond leaves are widely used by Asian breeders of tropical fish to stimulate breeding and promote health and vitality in tropical fish. Other beneficial use of Indian almond leaves include: * act as a tonic * enhance fertility * reduce water pH * anti-fungal properties * anti-bacterial properties * promote vibrant colorations * simulate black water conditions"
  23. From what I've read online they can be kept in Fresh, Brackish, or fully Marine water at any stage of their life. I'll be keeping mine in Fresh, we'll see how it goes.
  24. One of my CAE's killed the other less than a week after I got them. They were under 5cm. The surviving one is now in with some oscars and they seem to leave each other alone.
