  1. about 6 foot by 50 x 50 ish really weird sized tank, apprently it was used for a seafood tank in a restaurant once got it free:D yeah, the plants are just starting to grow now but will have to uproot them moving again. hope they will be ok
  2. 1.5 red aro - now it is 12 to 13 inches and getting fat. Colouring up nicely with some good lighting and good food.(Shrimp stuffed with hikari pellets) My RTG tank - my planted tank. See not too many plants:) My Red tail Gold arowana - ths is a better pic than the last, starting to get good at taking pics of fish that dont wanna stay still. The rings around the scales are coming out, has tripled in amount since i got it. colour is rather intense for a young fish so looking forward to getting it 20 inches:D Royal plec sucking on wood! that was not meant to be dirty Royal plec and ornate
  3. sure, if i can find it once it hides in the wood:D ill do that.
  4. lol no they only eat the good algae i have removed the Blue green stuff it came off very easily i discovered the problem cos i over feed and dont vac the bottom well enough wont happen again lol it was a new thing to me you see:D the othre tanks dont have that problem my royal is now sucking the crap out of wood and the walls of the tank for all the algae.... i fed it 1 algae disc today, its tiny so its fat and swollen lol i used to vac once a week on the planted tank, and WC twidce a week im increasing that to 2x vac and 1x WC a week. and im also increasing my vac to 1x a week to my other aro tanks and 2x WC for the 1.5 red and the Jar tank. cant wait to have my two 8 footers going! march or april next year! getting the stands done by this engineering company, very reasonable. also i like them cos when they are big, they LOOK big,
  5. dont know how mch usually but was 200 at one store, getting for about 150. first time i seen them
  6. hey hans i do hav emetal halides:D in my mates garage, no time to set it up or no room YET. next march april im moving houses and will set up my 1200 litre to be aplanted metal halide'd planted tank with and RTG aro, about 15 clown loaches, Clown knife and a royal pleco, maye delhezi too. but for now, i only have 3 t8 tubes on my 6 footer. what is a pmdd??
  7. I just ordered one:D they actually look nicE! picture sonline do not do them juctice
  8. I see, so the JBL fert balls re generally ok. plants below: Stargrass cyprus crypts swords tiger lots hairgrass? wysteria anubias (a green one and a white speckled white) ambulia I dont have any red plants except one sort with red leaves, red-ish leaves. the stargrass has heaps of roots in the gravel! it has roots everywhere lol, it seems that the root on the stargrass, abulia, wysteria grows roots everywhere lol they all ave plenty of roots in the gravel though. i hate putting the ferts in the water, and its a waste of money! if i can avoid it. they are all starting to thrive now, the crypts grows average 2 new leave sprouts a day. one amazon is kinda struggling the other one is thrving. star grass is thriving. cyprus is slow, so are the anubias, grow slowly
  9. i am ondering, the lfs obviously push products to me but i put JBL fert balls in the gravel it says it releases iron slowly the lfs says it doesnt so i buy liquid iron, potassium and exel carbon do i need the liquids? or can i just use the fert balls and give good light and thats it? so many liquids and stuff the tank isnt HEAVILY planted i would say its medium to a little less than medium.
  10. if its been there awhil, then it should be ok. those blocks support tons and tons of weight, its the evenness that matters i guess. poly spreads weiiht well as well as wood how bout puuting two layers of poly and 1 wood this would give a better spread
  11. didnt want sand more black stones that have been crushed to a finer substrate. i love the look, and its good to work with.
  12. haha its a protected site, you cant remove sand from there
  13. cheapest place to buy? LFS is obviously more expensive. where would i buy and make sure it doesnt have chemicals
  14. the one tankw ill have a sump the sump is 780 tall the tower i mean. so needs clearance at the bottom to put it in and have it set up. the other one i may reduce to 1metre. see how i go
  15. no but they understand the principles i guess. they do precision work for much bigger applications and things. yeah, 1200 is pretty high, thats what im trying to figure out. but i want it so when you look at it its eye level. maybe a metre would suffice ill have to see
  16. The prices of the stands are as follows. 1655 mm x 505 mmx 1200mm h is $515.00 + gst 2310 mm x 490 mm x 1200 mm h is $570.00+gst This is with an electro galv finish. Also included are the 17 mm ply tops the steel squares are 25x50 its the best quote so far and its from an engineering company
  17. lol yeah well, i have never had planted tanks before. i hvae minimal gravel in all other tanks and vaccuming them is so simple.
  18. has anyone here used cinder blocks type of like this the pictures above on a 8 foot tank and a 6 foot tank?
  19. timber is more expensive isnt it? im pretty sure timber ismore expensive unless i am mistaken
  20. Hi all i have a 8 foot by 49cms and a 6 foot by 55 cms tank i am wondering stands are blooooody expensive with the price of steel do you think that i can get cinder blocks and use that as a stand? has anyone done this?> or is it not recomended?
  21. yeah, no feeding for awhile also. i removed all visible trace of it and sucked it out comes out quickly i put the syphon thing on top of it and it peels off quickly
  22. sweet jesus~! i just changed the water - did a major vac of the gravel WOW WOW WOW!!!! its unbelievable the gravel was so dirty, i think i do indeed feed too much lol alot of poo stuck especially around the plants. i figured a method to suck them up took me 45 mins to really clean the gravel - but it was clean! did a massive water change in the process.
  23. i have not tried to wire it up yet. jut wondering - the bulbs you used, and sent to me, is it still working? also, how long before replacing them?
  24. the two bulbs were enough to plant your tank lke it was int eh picture you gav eme? or did you have other lights?
