yes but in reality, pacus WILL and always end up mort likely than n ot eat meat and kill fish they are not predators in nature but will be come one in captivity unless they are with other pacus and wiht other big fish
-
yeah, same with beef and chicken but alot of people do it over seas, i have seen some pretty huge monsters! living past ages that most dream of, feeding beef based food but yes, in theory, fish food and veges is good for pacus wha tyou can do to make them extra huge is feed them walnuts:D or nuts with the shell and watch them crack it, its awesome hearing the nuts crack in the water,
-
pacus and GGs are the most non picky eaters~! i mean my pacus use to eat glass heaters:S lol no really all the veges you named, rice, cat food, dog food. liver. more veges better, also they dont grow as big so quickly. peas is probably one of the cheapest carrots for colour on the GG. or, mice i fed my 50 cm pacu a mouse it was the ... well, i am not sqeemish, but that disturbed me somewhat
-
swearing removed that picture is insane! its like..... my dream fish:D
-
plecs are painfully slow to grow! damn! my scarlet has grown only a couple of MM if im luckylol
-
yeah, i should really try that but i find it too difficult not to feed them its like - im addicted greeny taking the massivore yet?
-
Everyone is different, otherwise we would be like robots!! monster fish are more entertaining i think than smaler ones i feel- but my main reason is that they cna eat other fish so probably different to most others reasons:S but yeah, little pretty fish are nice, but i get bored of them
-
looking at getting bulk crickets, its chaper for my beardie. but when you first get them, medium is too small i want them bigger, how hard is it to raise them bigger or just keeping them alive? is it easy?
-
i will consult you when i build mine:D
-
honeslty, i would love a warehouse but before we discuss further, post up a pic of yourself and what you are into 8) I KID I KID!! lol one of the things i wanna do is a massive monster tank in the house or somewhere in the house one day, but not yet. i want pacus, heaps of them lol with lots of silver dollars. my own pseudo piranha tank.
-
depends really. they dont usually stuff themselves always i would say every 3 feedings they would i would come to the tank, and loaches go nuts, then the knives come out - knife fish i mean they all start circling under the tank where the food is usually dropped. i feed the aro first and any pieces others eat, when hes done, then i drop a few massivore pellets. then sinking carnivores when its all gone, i put a little bit more then i stop when they stop eating in about 5 to 10 mins. i tend to watch them you see. sometimes they eat heaps, sometimes not. today they did! both the knives. so i dont force themt o eat, besides, you cant force fish to eat unless they want to - except the 6 bar distichodus man that fish just eats anything. thats the only one that doesnt stop eating, firs tto start, last to stop

is 8 foot too small? i think thats rather large for only a few fish! phoenix: gars are scary fish! thats why i love them. they get massive though, too massive, housing them would be a problem for most. Piranhas though i think is ok, too cold here in nz for them. so no risk.
-
i will april ish i have my 2 8 foots to set up:D phoenix, i thought you had alligator gars here!!!! i would offer you 800 for one!! i wish we had those monstrosities here!! it is satisfying, its not cruel by all means, how can that be. my knives are getting really really thick, the clown is so thick you cant see its belly swell anymore cos its same width lol
-
not at all they are designed to be eaten like that. my bichirs and all my fish eat them that can fit in their mouths, i stuff them into shrimp to push massive kicks in the shrimp. each pellet is 1.8 goldfish worth of caloric content. i really do not believe that hikari will design a food that is bad for fish like that. this is so popular over seas, only because we are so little in demand for fish food we dont really know about them here. my dat eats 2 and is satisfied. thats probably why they are good at making fish huge
-
well, i dont really do it on purpose - so calm down i put pellets for loaches and all the others too, i cant really stop them from eating lol its not like i can put my hand there and wave them away. i put the massivore for my dat, arowana, bichirs and sinking carnivore for loaches and bichirs. they all fight for the food they are actually very ravenous. besides, the food is designed not to just kill them and burst them. Hikari has gone through research that they swell. The massivore delite has a special ingridient that lets it digest well in the fish. so before everyone gets up and arms that i am sadistic and enjoy seeing fish get hurt... what im trying to say i like seeing fish get bigger, and huge.
-
anyone here with a tiger shovel nose or a red tail cat i will pay $500 for them thanks or any large cats like that with really big mouths
-
yeah see, i feed my royal knife massivore delite, its the size of a panadol. but it swells to 2 to 3 times that so it eats about 2 to 4 pieces, when its not swollena and dry then 2 hours later, its stomach is almost bursting, kinda scary but its getting really thick
-
am i the only one that gets a kick of watching their fish stuff themselves and having a extremely swollen belly? my royal knife is the best example, when it eats, its stomach gets so swollen lol

BD outside in the last few weeks -weird colour unde the chin
henward replied to henward's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
if it doesnt rain, i will spray them maybe every other day. example 5 sunny days day 1, no spray day 2 slight spray day 3 slight spray day 4, heavy spray day 5 no spray something like that random really -
Hello all my BD is outside the lsat 5 weeks, very hot sun and hot weather as of late, so decided to let it get some nice summer weather. it eats, andchases food, i even put some food on a string and it chases that:D cruel i know but it was fun watching it chase beans!! it generally basks all day, gets about 6 to 7 hours of DIRECT sunlight, the other times its just day light but no direct beating sun. it generally basks most of the time, if its hot it goes under the plant or wood in there, sleeps or just sits there, stnadard beardy stuff. also i think , pretty sure its a male from its glands. and just in the last 2 days, under its chin and some on top of its head has become more grey than usual - its body has become darker than usual. when its inside, it just sheds, its hard fo rme to tell if its on shedding cycle is this a tell tale sign of shedding, just curious. its gotten slightly darker and colour just weird.
-
this should be very easy - plenty of info on the net how to do it very straight forward
-
yes this is normal unless they do it all the time eating, drinking, bathing, digging, anything that involves blocking the nostrils, they will do this to clear it

puffers are sensitive to nitrates. could be the food, in the wild, what do they eat. for most fish - we can alter this but puffers, really should not take much deviation to this. i think shrimp should be the main diet. or shelffish. they are from brackish water meaning that they eat marine animals too. i suggest googling PUFFER forums over seas. Due to the fact that nz has limited puffers, we here have limited number of experiences. something like that, i really think you should get to it and ask other puffer forums, puffer forums in US, UK canada etc would be better. Or monsterfishkeepers.com has a puffer forum i think, guaranteed that someone there will be able to help

yeah true that just wondering though. thanks
