Hey clipper, sorry i can't help, but for what it's worth, i'm in auckland and we recently had a cold snap - my turtle went nuts!!! went back and forth between not eating & tucking up in his shell on the floor underwater, and freaking out, careering around missing his turns so he was smacking into the glass. Was pretty scary, but my point is that they're clever and sensitive, so if you've had a weather change, or something new in the environment etc that we normally wouldn't think of, it could still be bothering your turt. However, sounds like an irritation of the throat. Best of luck with getting him looked at by an experienced vet - ones that have worked in the UK have usually seen lots of turtles

i have a red ear terrapin would love to set up a big water or bearded dragon tank in future, but need to do my homework, and maybe wait til i own my own place

Thanks for that - she doesn't seem distressed and is eating daily, so i will keep an eye on her and euth if/when she gets to that point.

Are you sure it's not cicadas? If u look by the pond on a sunny day, and are slow and quiet in approaching, you should be able to see a frog before you get too close and he disappears. At the least you would see/hear the splish

My female betta (about 2 years old) is bloated in an odd way - first it was swelling on one side but not that noticeable, but it has gotten worse and she is now swollen in an uneven way - kind of like a few bumps making up the uneven swelling. She is still eating well but swimming poorly - she can't swim straight at all and spends a lot of time lying down on the driftwood or on top of a plant i have left floating in the tank for her to have something to rest on by the surface. Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this? I think it's a "problem" rather than anything contagious - it's been getting worse for nearly a couple of weeks now, I was going to quarrantine her but the others are right as rain. Do fish get tumours? i just hope she doesn't explode...
