  1. Hey Hayley, release them at the top/middle - they look very cute scuttling down to the bottom and releases are the only chances you'll get to see them do it

  4. Turtle isn't being fed live fish - i have given him wild mollies to chase in the past. He's pretty well fed so wasn't too bothered, caught a couple but after that it was just half-hearted chase attempts - he'd give up after a few seconds or so. Lol, how do the guppies feel about their housemate? The mollies i chucked in (that didn't get eaten) weren't bothered too much
  5. Hey animal_lover, they're pretty quick, and good at keeping away from gravel-vacs (and nets ) - you'll be fine
  6. But where? There are quite a few forum members after dwarf puffers but no one has them in stock  Sorry to go off topic, and i'm not planning on getting there asap and disadvantaging anywhere else, but i would like to know where they are in stock
  7. Where on earth are you getting dwarf puffers?
  8. Posted as a reply to the link I put on the cichlid board:

  11. Have heard a wee bit about people having convict cichlids in with turtles, and am wondering whether this would be worth looking into for my turtle tank? Have always liked convicts, but not really keen on having a cichlid tank at the moment. Have a nice grunty canister filter arriving in the next day or so to replace the old hang-on one, so water quality (for a turtle tank) will be at it’s best once that’s running. Is it ok to have a couple of these fish in with my turtle? He’s about 12cm shell, and while he will chase small feeder fish, he’s not overly aggressive and will ignore them too. My worry is whether the fish can exist happily in the tank, with regards to water quality etc, and whether they’re quick enough/what size they would need to be to hold their own if the turtle decides to give them a go. I do small water changes almost daily (with feeding), and the water was nice and clear with the old filter, so the new one will be a big improvement even on that. Any experience/thoughts or opinion would be much appreciated. The water volume in his current tank is about 100L - whole tank is 90cm x 45cm x 46cm, with a pretty spacious basking shelf. While he’s happy enough in there now, am also wondering whether I would need a bigger one if I put a convict or two in there… *scratches head*
  12. That method could help in getting them used to your presence SilverBlade86. Get them used to you sitting still watching them feed (even if you're really watching TV or reading a book ), and then see how they go
  13. How long have you had them? I can't remember how shy mine were at first but i'm sure they've just grown used to me - had them just over a year
  14. Aqua One Canister on it's way.... wahooo... :bounce: Crystal-clear tank here I come...
  15. Awesome, thanks Rockerpeller, that's a good enough reason to hold off!!! My Kribs are leaving the community tank in the next week to have their very own, so that should keep me occupied and away from the LFS
  16. This forum actually doubles as a support group for those tragically afflicted by this financially draining and time consuming condition *puts on a straight face*
  17. mine are out all the time and ignore me, i have to push them out of the way if i need to move them... maybe i've just terrorised them for long enough with my poking and prodding that they're numb...
  18. We have a bit of a catch-up and chat, go around the group and each talk about what's going on in our tanks, run through anything on the agenda - ideas for future meetings, upcoming competitions, etc. Other side of what bridge? (assume that there's a bridge that we cross going to green bay). Not that I'm aware of - i'm in Sandringham and this is the closest one for me
  19. Hey Gannet, yeah these are the guppies from you. Thanks for the info, that's great to know. They're doing really well, very active and they seem happy  . One or two of the smaller 4 have just started showing a bit of dark colour. The 2 larger ones have come into some colour, not quite finished but coming along nicely - light blue/yellow tails and bodies, with black on the body and the edge of the tail of one, and the bodies are marked with red and blue. That's to the best of my memory anyway, could describe better if at home. Have incurred the wrath of my partner - recently set them up in a small planted tank in the bedroom, and apparently that doesn't really fly with the "no fish in the bedroom" policy    I'm really enjoying them, can't wait to get more. Am I better off to buy only females, and the occasional male if i really like his colouring? My 2 bigger ones are both males, and if i remember correctly I want to end up with more females than males? Argh, monday mornings...
  20. Hmmm, so i have to decide... tricky The pandas sound cute, would they be ok? Could I have a group of 5 with guppies, and a BN? Will see how I go. Thanks for your input dimebag
  21. Thanks guys I've always liked cories, but don't know much about them. Will have to look into it and maybe get some. Would mean a bigger tank than the one i'm using for the guppies, but i suppose i'll have to eventually anyway if i'm getting more and they start popping out sprogs... I like the look of Schwartz's Cory, Sodalis Cory, Black Sail Cory, Leopard Cory, Panda Cory, and Albino Cory - does anyone know off-hand if any of these would be suitable? And what kind of numbers do they like, do the different varieties play nice together, how much space will each need etc? I'm being really lazy, but after a hard day at work i'm almost beyond googling, and besides, member's experiences and knowledge is often more useful than reading a fish's description on a site.
  22.   I suppose the best way for them to get over one guppy is to get under another one   Cool, well all the more reason to get some new guppies I've given them their own tank - what others could i put in there (other than anything with a small enough mouth) - what are good tankmates? They just have a pet BN at the moment. Oooh, bent spine crossed fingers that doesn't happen, but if it does, the turt. will be pleased...
