  1. Hey Amazonian are they noisy? Thinking about one but it would be in my bedroom
  2. *breaks in and sets all the danios and kribs freeeee!* ...and causes and ecological disaster

    wow

It is actually a fairly close example to a biotype, none or few plants, lots of driftwood, and a sandy bottom. The light is a bit strong though. In pics I never really liked those goldy/greeny plecos (the one in the middle with it's head in the driftwood) but that big beast looks awesome.
  4. These are really cool and look very natural, like looking at a river's edge or bend. As Alan suggested it would be really cool to have a waterfall carved through some cleverly placed rocks and edged with some sand

    wow

Yeah they look almost exactly like piranhas but the vegetarian cousins hence why we can buy them here in NZ. Didn't spot the cories at first, it is a cool mix of fish I reckon. The plecos would mainly be vegetarian too though right so they shouldn't be interested in eating cories. Be wicked to have a 10ft tank full of big plecos
  6. Cheers Wok, do you have to dry the eggs out for 6-8 weeks?

    wow

I was thinking that too jim, if a couple got hungry some of the discus' life could become not so enjoyable getting plecos sucking on the side, then again I don't know if royals and the other ones would do that
  8. Yea Fishkeepa's on to it. You add in to your filter or get an old stocking and hang that in your tank. You can use baking soda but it rapidly shoots the pH up and you have to add in what you take out. Shell and grit much more constant and buffers your water (makes it less likely for the pH to crash)
  9. Hey Wok do you need a container? or will a few cms of peat on the bottom be sweet?
  10. very cool, saw some at animal antics in tga too in case anyone was interested

    hello

    Hi Moron, welcome
  12. Did you lose a custody battle with your kids for her?
  13. Hop and a skip and a bump Sorry can't make it will be in tga
  14. Yea I think they have some new guppies and cichlids in some new tanks behind where all the usual ones are. Last time I was there they also had a bargain table at the front which is awesome everything priced at $1,$2,$5,$20,$50 etc via stickers, some expensive equipment like pumps all brand new there. I got two lots of fish food for $20 which originally would've cost $47
  15. There's also Pet City in Te Rapa and Pet World in town that are worth a looksee but yea definitely GoldFishBowl as he specialises in just fish and products. I'd be happy for you to check out my set up but I'll be in Tauranga. How long are you in Hamilton for?

    ph question

If it is highly stocked your pH could be dropping from the bioload. How hard is your water? Get a bucket of tap water then let it sit for 24 hrs, test the pH at the start and at the end. You may need to add a buffer such as baking soda or shell/bird grit if you want it to stay at 8.8 or similar. HTH
  17. Yep if you haven't cycled the tank let one of us know and we can give you some already seeded filter material (required to turn the bad chemicals fish release in to good ones, to put it simply)
  18. Yeah are those some new spotted discus Ronnie?
  19. I remember the day a LFS sold me 2 of them along with a bunch of nice fresh green plants...
  20. they may be being more successful than you think, check for fry over next couple of days. have you seen what you think is a proper embrace and they're not doing that? if they're not i'm sure practice and feeding of good foods will help
  21. Hehe we sure love our discus around here. Ronnie's gotta have some of the nicest discus in NZ. Great to have you on board jim r

    Tonic salt

I thought that is iodine, similar to chalk, heard once it could cause cancer, haven't heard anything since tho

Heya, I dose once a week but you're supposed to do it daily. Good to hear you have a high-tech system, it will work even better this way

I have some for sale if you want
  25. I've always found it to sink. You could tie it around a piece of driftwood that sticks up though then the leaves will grow up towards the light and be as if it is floating
