  1. I believe they only spawn between 18 and 22 degrees celsious
  2. Do you mean "know"? Most websites have the way to sound it out, e.g planetcatfish.com. What ones are you thinking of in particular? If it's in the dictionary that tells you too.
  3. ....but just one more tank for the babies? That's how it starts right?

    HELP!!!

Yea start really high then compromise to a rate still higher than what you think you should get.
  5. Good for the angels. Not good for the glowlight. Sounds like it took a speedy run-up.

    Drift wood

Boil a full jug and pour it over it. This will kill any nasties. HTH
  7. Bit confused by that, if they all came out grey, doesn't that mean the grey blocked the albino gene? By grey do you mean non-albino? Cheers
  8. Wow amazing fish, great work! :bounce:
  9. Birdwoman are you any relation to Catwoman? Flourish Excel does say on the bottle "organic carbon source for the planted aquarium" To sum up SW, the impellor does mix the CO2 into the water. It has no contact with outside air so has nowhere to dissipate too. Instead it is mixed in to the water forming carbonic acid. This acid is mild but over time can wear away internal parts of your filter like rubber rings and the plastic impellor. Depends how much is going through though, I've never heard of anyone first hand that has had it happen to them, but good to be aware of. How many degrees are your angles BW?

    Cooked Tetra's

Stink buzz....feel your pain. Lost 6 discus to 40degrees c. (luckily some actually survived it though!)

    CO2 help

How many watts does he have? Most important in order goes a bit like this: Light CO2 Macro nutrients (N, P, K) Micro nutrients (e.g iron) With enough light, coupled with the second biggest factor CO2, they can't go wrong. What kind of plants are they looking to grow? Ones like java fern, java moss, most stem plants are less demanding on the light. Red plants and ground cover plants need a lot more as well as some others.
  12. Ahh thought you might say that. Well just trying to make helpful suggestions. It's probably more that it's harder to get individuals paying than it is for the club to send a cheque.
  13. Pure rain water has 0 dH and 0 kH. Is it running off a roof first?
  14. Beautiful fish, how did it get so big without you noticing it in there? Would think you'd see it doing the weekly water change. Bless digital cameras...our hobby would be even more expensive without them
  15. Well if he made it the whole way that'd be going to hell and back j/k
  16. Not speaking on behalf of the club but it might be useful to communicate reminders about the due dates well in advance to avoid the last minute rush? Perhaps even deadline it sneakily a week before it's needed? I think club name dropping is bad form and bad press for those clubs, although I understand you are frustrated. Perhaps a lot of people don't read the yearbook, but then if it is needed, it would be very handy, e.g going to stay the weekend in Wellington and want to visit some names from the forum. There will be more interest this year also with lots of new members and for the first time having real names put to user names. I don't think anyone is stressing much about the time it is taking to get the AW and YB, I don't think about it until I get it. It is probably a big thing for you as you seem very organised. Any way, myself and gf enjoy reading it all when it comes. Cheers for all the hard work Caryl.
  17. Must've been something fishy about you Alan, something very scary, something dangerously killi-fishy. I wouldn't say any of the Waikato members are going down though.
  18. Heya, I used strong hyrdochloric acid. It's not recommended if it's gonna be swinging though. kH 6 needed to be stable, what's yours?

    Tetra

FYI, white tip tetras are fin nippers too, so best to avoid if you're having them with other tetras.
  20. Discus and angels are distant cousins, and like sharn said the angels often harbour intestinal worms that the discus then contract and don't handle so well. It does look a bit funny to have two laterally compressed fish (round but thin) in the same tank that look the same but different. But others may like it.

    Red Algae

Are you talking about black brush algae (actually a red algae)? If so the only fish I know that eats this is the black line flying fox. Just got 3 of these, doing a great job.
  22. Hi Doug, awesome. Quiz away with your questions and let me know if you want to check out my set up or need something. Sweet
  23. Incorrect, you cannot over filter - unless the current was too strong and distressing them.
