  1. How often do fish get water changes in the wild? 100% all the time! So no worries at all, more the better provided there's no pH swings or temperature swings. I do 80-90% daily water changes on my discus tanks.
  2. Keep them well fed, that should help. Also get more eggs that way.
  3. Nice brother keep the snaps coming!

    Mega tank

Oh man I love MEGA tanks. Be so great to just have anything in there. You'd even get away with 20 male Siamese fighters. Be nice to have a big fish rescue type of thing, e.g for giant gouramies, pacus, plecos, arowana etc. lol - remember how important those 20% weekly water changes are guys? Stop whining about it think of how it long it must take this geezer! Esp paralysed from the chest down, poor guy but what a feat. Reminds me the way it's set out of the 11m tank at Butterfly Creek near the Auckland airport. I didn't read it all and it might be in there, but I wonder how he keeps the sides clean?
  5. Thanks Ronnie, I didn't realise the lines could break up as they get older that's good... there's hope for the one above yet Those leopards sound good, however the two I got from you earlier on are still doing well and the smaller one is amazing, covered in tiny red spots (see pic below). Pity it is a long way down the food chain so not growing very fast. The tank is too stocked for any more right now.

Kewl.....each has it's own beauty, but the flash makes the colours come alive
  7. Particularly bigger fish, like many cichlids like discus. I assume this is because they have a bigger brain than others.
  8. Wok if they catch you using the internet you won't have a job anymore so it won't be a problem next time
  9. Hi Ronnie, cheers lol - it's not your leopard...
  10. Hehe yes it's coming along nicely I particularly like the round shape of this one and the contrasting colours with the red eye compared to the rest of the body
  11. Sweet so you got some CTs in the end? Niiice
  12. Leopard in growout tank (appears more of a turquoise but sold as leopard)
  13. Hehe yes thank goodness Caper, also they are happy with greenwater, which I'm sure is much cheaper than baby food. Here's a pic of my female Siamese fighting fish. I spawned her with my red male about two months ago, the guy at the LFS said blue is a recessive colour and he's right, the babies have turned out red. Any way, here she is:
  14. dang now why didn't I think of that? Na I already know my discus know that I = food time
  15. Yup it's definitely a good thing, I actually rely on it to give the air to my fish that they need. I don't have a bubbler. An interesting point, with a planted tank and pearling you can actually reach over 100% 02 (oxygen) saturation, I think up to 120%, maybe more. This is lucky so it tides the 02 overnight for the fish. A few mornings they were at the top needing air before the lights kicked in and started the process again, so I've installed a powerhead to create some surface movement for easy 02 injection overnight. Pity I can't use my light timer to turn the powerhead on at night, and then the reverse in the morning
  16. Hehe thanks very much for taking the time to reply and view it peanuts, Mystic, Caper, ltjan55, fishboi, Devon, BK, and evil Devon there's a couple of 20cm clown loaches in there but they get a bit shy when the camera comes out. I'll be sure to get some cunning snaps though and post them up here after some shrimp pellet lures BK it's a bit too heavily stocked to add some discus at the moment (I think), but I have mused the thought many times of throwing in a dozen juvenile discus. Just they won't grow so well in there compared with the BB/Planted combination tanks I grow them out in (pics of them to follow soon). Personally I think it needs a bit more fill around the back, I might get that hygrophilia (think that's what it is) in the back right and plant it out all the way across the back as it grows sort of like a hedge. Then again maybe it looks better just in a bunch :-? Always something you want to change aye lol

  18. Hi Swede welcome aboard, Dave said it well. We're also planning a National Fish Show next year in Hamilton :bounce: Hey Dave will there be the usual judging this time around on the tank crawl?
  19. hehe thanks mate, it was taken with my brand new Canon 350D SLR 8MP camera and the auto focus is pretty good.
  20. Okay here's my 300 Red honey dwarf gouramies. Three days old.
  21. You're right (as far as I'm aware with your presumptions above) And.... "kribensis" (Krib-en-siss) "rasbora" (ras-bora) "corydoras" (cory-dora/s) "plecostomus" (pleck-oss-ta-miss)
  22. This is great, spelling and pronunciation lessons! A few of my pet-hates: Their/There ('their' indicates ownership, e.g their bikes, 'there' indicates location, "over there") They're, We're, You're etc, all these words are 'conjunctions', that means they combine two words, e.g "We are here", 'were' indicates past tense, "they were here". Another example, "You are silly", 'your' indicates possession, e.g "your fish are nice". Just always think when you write it, should it be "you are... bla bla" or does that sound wrong? In that case it's probably "your" you want. Angles/Angels!!! How many degrees are your angles?
  23. not sure if you meant by chich-lid, "kick-lid" cuz that's what I use to think it was. I couldn't find anywhere on the net saying how to pronounce panaque  but I've always assumed "pan-neek"
