  1. yep, thats it TM, Steve/reef do they ever come in??
  2. and lastly, I visited the london aquarium, on the southbank by the London Eye, It was disappointing. Some what neglected, and the photos make the reef tanks look better than they actually are. Lots of dead sps, cyno and accumulated detris, cloudy water etc, thats all, sorry to all dial up users .
  3. there were loads of other marine tanks as well, horse shoe crabs, little leopard sharks, jelly fish etc. here is a few.. tank full of sun polyps lion fish other coral tanks where corals were growing mad A huge euphilia tank a tiny tank where the green monti had grow square!! a tank full of banggai, with urchins full of babies and the same size tank as the big reef for freshies, You can't get an idea of the size and the huge amount of fish within from these photos
  4. The next ones are from the Aquazoo in Dusseldorf. this is a relatively new public aquarium, including insects and retiles as well. Originated from a private collection donated to the city. It is an extremely impressive display and I recommend it to anyone going to Dusseldorf. the fresh water displays were huge, but i didn't take too many photos of these, concentrating on marine. The highlight was a huge semi circular reef aquarium. It was easily 10 m end to end maybe more, 1 m high and 1 m wide. It had excellent flow and lighting and sps were doing great. The fish were plentiful, healthy and some lovely types. I'll start with this tank first..... to give an idea of the size, this is half one side had acros then into the leather area this leather was huge, easily 800mm across a gorgonian area then a huge red anenome with splits, My boss standing there for sizing. It was full of clowns and banggai cardinals xmas tree worms in porites more huge leathers (i think) moving through to the staghorn area and this stunning little fish was swimming around in the stags. I want one....!!!!!!!, anyone know what it is?
  5. Gidday all, as promised, fish photos from my trip to Europe. the first ones are of a shop i found in Dusseldorf. The owner had began as a hobbyist and moved into a small shop within his appartment building. he had a nice range of softies, very few sps but had nice urchins and starfish. Prices were expensive compared to us, with a fish worth say $80 NZ priced at 80 euro!!
  6. hi all, just checking in from London, waiting in the eurostar lounge  good to see the banned boys are back, we need people like that. Not much posting from them, though. Tank is apparently going okay (from the wife) and thanks Steve for keeping in touck with Wendy, appreciated as usual. I've got some great pics from the aquazoo in Dusseldorf (Stunning marine tanks), a local shop in Germany and the London Aquarium (shabby marine tanks) so I'll be back in a week to post them. See you soon Shawn.
  7. Well I'm off to Germany and France for 3 weeks on business, wife is all schooled up on looking after the tank with Jetski as backup. Hope to look at a few Marine shops while I'm there and take some photos to post when i get back. Behave your selves  and I catch up when I get back. Shawn.
  8. http://www.deltecaquariumsolutions.com/skimmers_6.php oops, here is the site.
  9. Duke, this is a better site. Stroll down and open the pdf file for skimmer instructions. Diagrams etc within this. Same for the Calcium reactor, click on the appropriate menu and open the installation instructions for this also.
  10. Euro bracing, thats what my tank has completely around the top. Without it water would be slopping over the top - no doubt.
  11. Nice work Duke, good skills. Chimera's right, get a couple of streams churning up the water and you need to watch that carefully. How are your cardinals by the way, if they are still alive, they must be eating something by now.
  12. coco worm???? just grew out of some rock 8) Only 1 6000 stream going 100 % full time pointing forward in the gap between either reef. 2 6100's with controller at either side pointing 45 degrees to front, the 3 of them create a brilliantly random flow.
  13. Here's Sushi, doing very well, and an end shot of the tank, also doing very well.
  14. wow, just gave the APF a birthday clean, small air pipe below the pump was clean, I thought  , nice small hole for air until I realised that it should be a nice big hole and it was in fact full of calcium. Amazed that the skimmer was still working so well, other than I was giving it full air. The difference is staggering....
  15. yeah, they can range in size, the small ones are tiny and the grow to 4-5mm. The nudibranches are reasonably easy to recognise - look for the gills - fuzzy bits on their backs. My sixline is to fat eating pods and food to worry about these slugs.
  16. Where did you pick them up from drifty, in the same shop we met in last month??. I'm sure thats where mine came from.
  17. and I talked to layton when I got mine, he hasn't got rid of them......
  18. Next to impossible. I've had them for a while, manual removal is an option I'm trying but lost my Monti cap, green engrusting, and trying very hard to save my orange cap at present. the best option is to remove all montis (every last bit) and leave them out of your tank for 6 months at least. this way the little beasties die off, and there eggs hatch and die etc and you can start fresh. I should have done this myself but my little orange cup monti is so nice. I thought I had them beat but had to siphon another 6 or so off it last night after not finding any for almost a month.

ok... I still don't agree but can understand your argument. To me a true refugium is not for live rock filtration, nor frag growing, but at the risk of repeating myself, a safe quiet place for micro fauna and algae to bred and multiply. There should be an even steady flow, but not high random stream type flow. The sand shouldn't be disturbed by the flow either. This is not something I made up, but read up on refugiums and make your own mind up. There is a lot of different views on it though.

I see your point Chimera but not sure i agree. A refugium is supposedly just that, a refuge, safe are where pods can multiply and macro algae can grow in conditions that suit them best. You have told me before that you have bugger all pods and no mysid shrimp in your refugium. Too much flow????. Sorry about the CBB, my rabbit fish got stuck to a stream just after i put him in. He's a bit stronger now, I hesitate to say wiser as he's a bit thick.

whats the reason for the seio in the ref, Chimera??. Wouldn't have thought you would need that sort of flow.
