    bl---y montis, grumble grumble............
  3. you'll blow the sides off your little tank Steve
  4. Hey Ben, saw some of those blue strip in the shop when I picked up the oxypora today. Very nice. Some other nice fish in there as well 8) Your tank looks great.
  5. nice corals Wasp, impressive. Shows me how far I have to go................
  6. ok understand that, but why do most sps increase PE at night, particularly the large end polyps. Is this again a function of respiration?.
  7. still learning and happy to hear from you layton. Somewhat depressing at times , but how about we go for good growth and colour as signs they are happy. A question though, should I be looking at feeding the sps corals. Don't presently feed the corals at all and dont suppliments except weekly water changes, calcium reactor, and kalkwater topup. feed fish daily mainly small amounts of flake and occasional frozen treat.
  8. maybe they are hungry then??. They certainly look healthier with more polyp extension, 3 x 250 14k MH should be plenty of light. I don't think its over extension, maybe just normal given the tank is really settling down.
  9. few more - sorry if I've got carried away... new blue stag, great pe already my first acro, small and bleached when it, brown now, but grown and good pe nice stag starting to purple/blue up another new milli I think, should go pink/red, great pe just to prove its not all acros, a little torch scar, my big boy larmarck fat manderin Some of the running gear Sump and refugium thats all folks

Blue tip stag 10th Oct now Green stag 10th Oct now and some frags off it fire coral frag, (piece of shell wedged in to keep in place) now (shell part of coral) purple tip acro milli awesome little green table hairy green acro (notice new growth tips just last 2 weeks) digi frag starting to grow nice blue tip clam - easy 3 or 4 times its original size little blue with good pe and growing tips take some more in a couple of months to compare :bounce: :bounce:
  11. Couple of (poor) photos of the tank taken Friday. New reef on RHS complete and new corals added. Acros growth has taken off with great PE and growth. Have taken before shots so will publish in a month or so with afters. New streams, Calcium reactor, temp control, red sea salt? or maybe just some maturity -consistancy (still only 8mo) contributing. Front on End on
  12. I was intending to blame any one cookie, there just seems to be a lot of finger pointing at Steve in particular and he has done nothing but help me in this hobby.
  13. i think there needs to be a bit of honesty here. I went to one of the LFS and asked for a price on a Tunze TS24 kit. Was given a price of over $1800 (special price for me, yeh right). No doubt the shop was purchasing this from the "approved supplier". I found them on special on seame.com, under $1000 delivered. Does that make me a parallel importer?? For what, wanting the best equipment for my hobby, for keeping my fish and corals in the best environment. How many people on this site haven't done exactly the same thing. How many people wouldn't have the tank they have now if if wasn't for people like jetski or even reef. Give the guy a break.
  14. its like a swivel but it filters out small particulates at the same time
  15. I tried to go down to 10-15cm but found it reduced the spread too much, back to 22cm.
  16. you got that right Steve, another thread ruined.
  17. tank never varies by more than 0.5 from 26 degrees, and no chiller.
  18. don't mention montis to me ........... Bloody nudibranches, lost the capricornis, fighting hard a losing battle with the orange cup and purple...........
  19. Hey Drifty, I can certainly see what you were talking about today, good pictures. How many angry stares did you get  .
  20. We haven't done this for a while so lets have a look.... 21/1/06 Ph - 8.2 Nitrate- undetectable (salifert) Phosphate - undetectable (salifert) Calcium - 430ppm (salifert) Kh - 8.3 (salifert) Mg - 1220ppm (salifert) Salinity - 1.026 (OTC Refractometer) Shawn.
  21. After getting the streams, the Seios became an ideal and cheap to hide behind a rock and blast under both piles of rock to stir up the much under the rock. I was surprised at what came out. Brian, I now run the 2 6100s on a controller, a std 6080 in the middle of the tank and 2 sieos under the rocks blowing down as well as the split return and 2 std power heads in the rockwork. It's like a washing machine now.
  22. come on Jetski, I'm not that close to your house....

    power cut

For $600 odd dollars for my 2.2Kw (1.8 cont) genny, its worth every cent. Just take a look at the thread about costs so far and you quickly realise its not alot of expense. My gen was from Bunnings but its a bit bigger with tube frame, large tank that runs 12hrs easily, and runs every thing on my tank (and the TV if a test match is on) except the lights as they are hard wired.
  24. no it doesn't, bit of a pain, but its strong, cleans really well (much better than the Boyu I had) and its got a length of cord attached to retreive it.
