Thanks for that guys, i think it is a very small black angel, so will be fun watching them grow. they are happy and eating well (flakes), although being angels i wonder how long before the decide they are too close to each other, very territorial!!!

they are only 6-10mm long and stunning, looked at black angel, doesn't seem right, theyhave green spots when young? - although that damsel/chromis type body shape is right. Oh, Tauranga Bay. Got some really nice stock, and tank has just got over the seemingly endless algae cycles, and looks really good now.

Can anyone id this little fella - living art????
  8. Absolutely, but true nevertheless.
  9. That may be true Ira, but the fact is you never find clowns fish in the wild without an anemone, never. But Ira's right, not enough light and filitration for an anemone in that tank.
  10. nice, you can keep that one
  11. My chillers been running alot keeping the tanks below 18 degrees, having a spell of heat and humidity - cant see the fish for condensation at the mo.
  12. mmmm, and it looks very immature?? Hopefully things will be ok?

Throw it in the bin, 3-4 weeks to break in, garbage!!!
  14. yes, so i'm using and reccommend using coral based rock for local coldwater systems. just tried to pick the pieces that are going in the display tank to look more rock like and less dead coral like, if that makes sense?
  15. and an awful lot of experience before running a skimmerless tank. Its not so much how many tanks are running skimmerless, its how many sucessful tanks are run skimmerless, for more than 6 months. This is practicable advise to a newbie setting up his first tank, not experienced reefers playing with alternative nutrient export systems.
  16. Live reports from Tutukaka harbour telling of big muddy currents suddenly sweeping into the harbour, no big wave, but big currents, whirlpools etc.
  17. Again, not good to steer newbies that way. You need the equipment to run any saltwater tank, - no skimmer, no filter, no water changes is a big recipe for disaster. I have run coldwater marine tanks for over 25 years, so have some experience. No marine tanks should have critters in them until they are cycled and tested, fullstop.
  18. Sorry Caryl, but bad advise, i can pick you never tested the water, didn't know what levels of nitrite or nitrate existed in the water, and although things may have looked ok, i bet the weren't feeling ok. Even small rockpool type tanks need to be cycled and tested before torturing the poor things you are going to put in.
  19. , only thing that worked for me was a naso tang, and manual removal. They seem to grow well in low nutrient tanks so reducing nutrients probably wont help. Siphon them out when doing a water change, taking care not to pop them.
  20. and stop adding ammonia!!
  21. only good possum is a dead one, they are destroying the environment - and having 1 as a pet is wrong IMO. Your pet escaped, probably bred and is now responsible for hundreds of the horrible things, a number of native bird deaths and lots a native trees ravaged. cute indeed.
