  1. No posts of a political nature. Sorry Amazonian MOD - Alan Even if I do agree.
  2. Hi Thanks for that info African. I know what it's like having just had my move, and then having to build "The Fish Room" basically around the tanks. I still haven't finished the task yet but my fish just want to carry on breeding, so as you can imagine caviar is on the daily menu a lot at the moment.
  3. Hi African Have you managed to breed your P. dumerilli yet? I'm looking forward to getting some.
  4. Hi Rogan I suggest that you put a sheet of plastic over the floor to protect the carpet. ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN............... ]Good luck with the extra space.
  5. Hi All I would suggest that when you put the lamps back into the unit that you put a couple of "SILICA GEL" PADS IN THERE AS WELL AND TAPE THEM TO THE FITTING. THESE WILL HELP TO KEEP THE CONDENSATION OUT. You can reuse these by drying them in a "Moderate" oven. Good Luck.
  6. Hi Caryl Yes I'll be in Chch on 19th to 21st so I'll get some and drop it off on my way through.
  7. Hi All I only breed fighters once a year, and only 1 pair. I could breed up to 5 pairs but thats a lot of fish being produced and who would buy them all? They are left in the tank they were hatched in until the males are sexable at which time they are put into "JAM JARS" to grow on until they are sold. They take up a lot of time as the jars have to be cleaned out every couple of days and 200 jars is a bit of work. They are only given "BRINE SHRIMP" and DAPHNIA on the jars so they grow fast. The females are left until they are about 2.5cm and then thinned out with the best kept to carry on the line, and the rest sold or given away. Good Luck....
  8. I would suggest you check with a Veterinarian. They use the gloves you describe for internally checking foetuses of horses and cows. Just a thought
  9. Oh, how we all try to beat "Mother Nature".. When I do a water change the water I put back in the tank is never the same termperature as that which is taken out. Two or three degrees colder is about what "I" aim for. "TO BE GOOD AT ANYTHING", you have to think like that which you are imitating. In other words.....THINK LIKE A FISH. When it rains in nature, the water is COLDER than the river, creek, or stream that it is falling into by several degrees. 8) A smart Fish thinks..."Hmmmmmmmmmmm, Start of the rainy season, plenty of food available so I might go looking for love and there will be food aplenty for the babies" Just ask me how I get to breed and raise "ANGEL FISH" so easily. Think about it.
  10. ALL THE ABOVE IS RELEVANT INFORMATION. But remember the old ways are the surest Guarantee that you wont get breakdowns and power cuts. I'm an "OLD FART" so you can do the modern calculations in metrics. ALLOW 1 INCH OF A FISHES BODY (EXCLUDING THE TAIL) FOR EVERY 8 SQUARE INCHES OF SURFACE AREA.
  11. I have experienced what je suis K is talking about. As has been said; READ ALL MY EARLIER POSTS.
  12. You can buy the coloured lights at the $2 shop. They come in ORANGE - YELLOW - GREEN - BLUE - PURPLE - RED. Made in China. I use a lot of these bulbs in the "WOW" Gallery and like all "Party" type lamps they only last for 500 hours if you're lucky. The "PHILIPS" Party lights are no better. Made in Indonesia, although some packets have European Countries printed on them.
  13. READ A FEW OF MY EARLIER POSTS. I breed and rear 95% at every spawning.
  14. Go and buy a RED LED TAIL LIGHT from an auto house. They have Multiple LED'S and work a treat.
  15. Put the suspect male into a preserving jar and float it in the tank. (FISH PRISON) That should quieten him down a bit so as he can be released after about a week.
  16. I have finished moving all my goods and chattels into the new house, and the construction of the fish room is coming along nicely. I hope to have the "Room" finished by the time we hold our club AGM and most of the tanks set up on their permanent positions. Photos can be posted to show progress from today, but I haven't taken any of the construction so far. Many thanks to those who have helped me in this massive task, and I'm sure the house will be suitably warmed at the appropriate time.
  17. Hi all, The TASMAN AQUARIUM CLUB is holding it's July meeting on 27th July at 7:30pm at 2 ALDINGA AVENUE - STOKE. This is our 1st Annual General Meeting (we've been going a whole year) and I would like to see a full attendence of all members. Good deal?

My first tank was given to me as a birthday present for my 14th birthday, in 1959. It was a 24 X 12 X 12 (inches) or in "todays speak" 60 X 30 X 30 (cm). Since then the sizes and number of tanks has gone up and down like a yoyo.
  19. You check the local pet shop or even "Trade Me". O have used them for years and swear by them.
  20. Hi All Sorry about not keeping tabs on my emails and PM's. Due to my moving I just haven't had time but I'm slowly getting sorted. PLEASE resend any emails or PM's that I havent answered. Errol
  21. Hi All A "VIA AQUA 650 Pro" should be "purrrrfick" for the job. Quiet - Reliable - Cheap.

    Good deal?

Hi All If you have a hobby you shouldn't worry about the cost. If I had been worried about the cost I would have stopped before I started, and "might have" saved many thousands of dollars over the years. But I enjoy the hobby and to hell with the expense. Throw the cat another canary.
  23. Hi All Just an update on the status of the "AMAZONIAN" The move is complete and I am in my new abode and welcome fellow enthusiasts to call in for a coffee and a chat. Thanks to all those fellow hobbyists that helped with the moving of 40 odd tanks and fish. The new address is 2 ALDINGA AVENUE STOKE 7011 NELSON. This is also the mailing address for all correspondence for "TASMAN AQUARIUM CLUB" I am looking forward to an increase in both tanks and hobbyists at my new home. Errol
  24. Sorry about your losses SW. I feel for you and know what you were going through. As you will know, I am also moving. Not as far as you but I have 36 tanks to move all containing fish. I owned both houses so waiting till you buy isnt really sufficient to add to the equation. My shift is purely for health reasons and I was well aware of the task ahead when I made the decision to move. I hope I can keep my losses to an absolute minimum as when you loose "Breeding Pairs" that you have raised it is like loosing one of your own. Good luck from now on.
  25. Hi All. Thanks for all the good wishes and encouragement. It's a bit of a daunting task (moving) after 37 years of accumulated "Stuff" and then having to make some modifications in the new place, but I think I'll find the time, and am starting to look forward to the move.
