  1. If you want to start importing you had better be prepared to stump up at least $10,000.00 to meet the importing criteria of MAF and ERMA. PLUS you will need the patience of Jobe and the humour of a circus clown, and the ability to understand MAF speak, which is just really double talk to confuse you.. FIG JAM  Been there and done it and even have the grey hairs to prove it.
  2. Hey Wok I can only count to twenty. I have to write that number down and start again etc. I only got ten fingers and ten toes. I must have some Irish Blood on me somewhere. I have in the past got to eighteen, nineteen, twenty, another, another, another and so on.
  3. Hi Paul. Thanks for the offer, but I can hold on until you've finished with yours. If "push comes to shove" I can crawl up the path to the door and still reach the door handle.
  4. Hi All. Sorry I forgot to say. I have a place in ALDINGA AVENUE in Stoke. Only about 7 km from where I am now, but on the flat as my knee is getting worse and the steps at this place appear to be getting higher and higher for me.
  5. Hi All; I think this post is "IN ORDER" as I will only be mentioning "MYSELF":.. No "Nationalities, People or Businesses". Before anybody else gets the wrong end of the poker I think it is encumbent on me to advise all of you that need to know, that I am moving at the end of the month. I did want to mention it at our last club meeting when Caryl made reference to "A LARGER LOUNGE" being needed for the amount of members that turn up to our meetings. The "SOLD" sticker was only attached on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately the lounge is a little smaller Caryl. I am NOT GETTING RID OF MY FISH as has been related to me; but I am going to have a DEDICATED FISH ROOM, and to that end I am building new racks that will hold another thirty tanks. The fish room will then be home to about 60+ tanks, not including sales tanks which will number about 8 or 10 and quarantine tanks for the shop.
  6. I'll bet he looks good in a "TUTU"; in my case and size it's a THREE THREE..

  8. Unfortunately with Hex changes of water only give the "hex" a bit of vitalised water to increase in. Stripping and sterilizing the tank is the only way I would recommend. Good Luck with the battle.
  9. Just be prepared to put a lot of jars in the fishroom for the males. I rear mine in that way. As soon as they are sexable it's into a jar for the males. They stay there until they are culled as rubbish or sold. Good luck
  10. I got got 10 from Organism in Illam. Check them out.
  11. Hi All. It is of no suprise to me that I seem to get a lot of accolades. One NEVER stops learning, and the more you learn, the more your "Computer" retains. I have had 48 years with my Tropical Fish and Plants, as a Hobbyist, a Breeder, and an Importer, and my passion for my fish is so high a lot of folk would think me insane. That's until they need to know something. I have been fortunate to have met and spent a few days with the "GREAT" Dr Herbert Axelrod, of TFH Fame. I have met and spent time with Dr Jiri Stodola, a great botanist and very much into aquatic plants. Plus I have spent a lot of time with "MYSELF" learning by observation, with scientific and chemical means and a Hands on approach to my hobby. But the greatest inspiration in my love for the hobby is no less than one Bill Sievewright who took me under his wing as a lad of about 9 or 10. He was a neighbor as was his daughter and Grandson, who I played with. From that time I was hooked and got my first tank on my 14th birthday in 1959.
  12. Hi All, Mother nature is a very intelligent being. What you observed when the parents were moving the fry, was the fry getting a "BATH". Think on this:........................ Mum has a couple of hundred babies, she has to give them a bath; how does she know who's bathed and who's not?. She moves them to a new site and "MOUTHS" (Baths) them on the way, ONE by ONE. That way no fry misses out on a Bath and a coating of "medicine". Also mouthing the eggs while they are incubating cleans them as well, thus protecting them from bacteria; but if bacteria is in the water while the eggs aren't being cleaned, how are they protected? Fact: Again Mother Nature intervenes and helps out. While the parents are incubating their eggs, even before the bathing act, they produce an antibacteriacide in their mouths and that coats the eggs while they are incubating. They also pass this on to the fry when they move them during the washing process. Just a little bit of maybe useful information for those who would like to know a little bit more than most about Angel's. This however, is appropriate to all Cichlids..
  13. Hi All, If you want to talk "Angel's" PM me. There is faaar tooo much to know to put in a simple post. I breed Angel's like there is no tomorrow and have at least six colour strains going continually. 8) Alan4304 is "right", Methylene Blue is used to stop the eggs fungusing. But thats not what I use solely. I add Acriflavine as well and attain hatch rates of upwards of 95%, and rearing rates of 90+%.
  14. Hi All; I'll Take orders I SAY THAT LITERALLY, NOT AS FACT, BECAUSE SOME ARE ONLY YOUNG FRY STILL I have four colours of Angel fry. I have Apisto. Pandurini Fry, I have Apisto. Mcmasteri fry. I have Apisto viejita fry. I have Kribensis fry. I have Albino Kribensis fry. I have Rosy Barb fry. I have Odessa barb fry. I have Black mollie young. I have Cobra Guppy young. I have Half Blue/ Redtail guppy young. I have Pineapple Sword young. I have Red Sword young. I have Neon Sword young. I have Green Sword young. What I don't have is a spare tank for the Angel's that just spawned. That is one Lonely "Silver Altum" Male (who lost his mate) and a Lonely old "Black Scalare" Female (who lost her mate) who were put in WHAT WAS a spare tank to pass away the time..... NOT A GOOD MIX....But it could be interesting. 8) Sorry Paul B. But I got a severe case of MTS as well.....
  15. I keep a few pairs of Moenkhausia oligolepis (LAMPEYE TETRA'S) for breeding, but if the dreaded "Duckweed" shows up they get put in the tank and soon move it. Only one problem; if you have "Valuable" and "Tender" plants in the tank keep a very watchful eye on them , as they will get devoured as well.
  16. Congratulations. Did you do anything I PM'ed you, and did it work?
  17. HI All, As a "Supa User" of VIA AQUA products in general and 650 Pro and 750 Pro cannister filters in particular I can assure you that both hoses are the same size. If they are different, then somebody, at some time, has done a bit of JIGGERY POKERY with "Aqua One" Fittings.
  18. Hi snookie, from what little I know about these barbs I would suggest that you dont comtemplate a mate as they may breed. These fish are extremely fecund and unless you are prepared to hire the local "Swimming Baths" and supply "0800 HUNGRY" then keeping a pair is not a good picture. I believe that they are a "STAPLE" food fish in INDIA and around The MALAY Peninsula, including TAIWAN and the PHILIPPINES.
  19. Hi all Obviously you guys and guyesses work for bosses, to be able to get holidays.. I find that holidays are a luxury that I'm not entitled to. But I suppose I chose to work for myself and also have the chioce to be able to make time for my hobby. Oh, I'll be at conference though.....................
  20. Hi Paul Thanks for that. I'm really sorry you can't make it, 'cause I have organised the caterers especially for your coming. But if you want to win lotto, I was told that one has to buy a ticket, and as the pension isn't available to me yet I cant afford a ticket to help you out either.
  21. Come one, come all..... Supper is served.
  22. Hi All. So we can close the financial year tonight and say well Yep, I had to run some sort of "WATER MOVING SYSTEM" (filters or aeration to allow such high stocking levels. I still think the method I use applies to all Tanks in general.
  23. Hi All. The TASMAN AQUARIUM CLUB at a special general meeting on 29-03-07 resolved to change it's meeting night to the 2nd Friday of the month. This is being over ridden for the April meeting which is on 20th April at 7:30pm at 42 ABRAHAM HEIGHTS. (I think some of the members are superstitious) All and any members of Clubs that are visiting Nelson are most welcome to come along.
  24. I was quoting a "BELT & BRACES" system that does not allow for anything other than fish and plants in a tank. That allows for 1 inch of body length of fish to 8 square inches of surface area. It's a shame if you are stocked to maximum using the literage or any other system and rely on a pump and, or filter to allow HIGH stocking levels. You have to allow for failures and filters and pumps DO BREAK DOWN. Too late then to worry about over stocking "that tank" when the break down occurs. It's time to start moving fish into another tank.
