  1. I disagree, something like melafix introduces healthy bacteria and doesnt have any "detromental" affects on fish, other than the obviouse fact that it heals them and makes them healthier very fast. Shae
  2. Iv'e kept BN's for quiet a while now, have never ever had driftwood or any type of wood in my tanks and they are getting quiet big now. Shae
  3. A good person to talk to if you want a tank specially made cheaper than anywere else here in wellington is Peter at Port Nicholson, he also does specialised tanks, if you want his contact details pm me. Shae
  4. sitting on the gravel doesnt mean there hiding it means something is wrong, and if you've been feeding them heaps you might be poisoning them, the amonia levels will be to high, as i said do a water change and gravel clean! Shae
  5. do a water change and gravel clean, id say probably amonia levels are too high, plus not enough food! Shae
  6. doesnt sound to good, id say the water contitions arent to good, do some water checks and see what the perameters are, what are the other fish like in there. Shae
  7. Gambusia is illegal to have, and taking the livebearers they have in all the different pools is also illegal, if your cought your going to be paying out more than it was worth. However if they give you there permission then it is obviously aloud. Shae
  8. The first spawning is always the coolest Caryl. If all goes well Paul i might come in a week or 2 and grab a couple. Shae
  9. Sounds cool, lets hope they dont venture into the guppy half, my suggestion would be to remove the guppys and the partition Shae
  10. Well all killies are definatly cool, but the Flag isnt colour wise, nothobranchius palamquisti is!! You make it sound like i hated the Flags, But i love all killies and dont have a problem with them at all, infact if i could get my hands on a pair i would deffinatly get them. But what i meant was similiar to you as is that the only killies Now i killie i really want is the australes, got any eggs from yours yet Alan? Shae
  11. becuase all my killie tank are about 20l I do a 400ml water change a day along with a gravel siphon every 2 weeks, but thats only really to collect the eggs out of the peat in the gravel. be careful though to much water changes can also cause problems as you could end up killing all of the bacteria the healthy bacteria in the tank. Shae
  12. actually from experience i have found that some type of hair grass i have is the best, much better than java moss, however if you only have either of these plant then it isnt going to work very well, you want heaps of plant all sorts of different variesties, make sure you get some java fern as most fry go to the surface of the water when first born and if there is floating plants the they will hide and survive in it. Shae
  13. Agreed, the frog population in New Zealand has depleted to an alarmininly small size in the last five years. Shae
  14. your correct, what tank are you talking about jude? Shae
  15. Mollies dont tend to show there pregnancy compared to guppys and play, however she looks quiet full in the back end there, you might want to move her now. What i suggest you do for a communtiy type tank like that is put heaps of plants in there, and if you miss a birthing you can just check among the plant for fry. Mollie fry are generally bigger than anyother livebearer. Shae
  16. Quiet clever, i might have to look at biulding one for my nano, would be far better for me rather than drilling a whole in the tank. Shae
  17. Well i posted some pics of one of my tanks. i doubt there will be anymore from me, my killie tanks are nothing species to look at. I think i will post pics of progress reports of my fishroom going up although it will be atleast a month before it start being biult. Shae
  18. Why the flags? there not exactly stunning killies? NTL they should be keeped in a tank with there own species putting other killies with them is not adviced! Shae
  19. thats each vet check you have to have atleast 3 from what i no. Shae
