  1. the skimmer is now online, im actually quite surprised at the amount of air its sucking in. the camera battery is on to charge and once i get some filter wool i'll put up some pics.
  2. i would move it away from the anemone
  3. nope its gallons reef i guess that could be considered confusing
  4. i will officially be able to start a review of my skimmer tommorow. from what i have noted so far goes as per what reef said, it appears to be constructed very well and made out of top quality parts. i will be using a resun MD40 on mine so i expect it to work optimally with this pump
  5. you realise you might end up with two mushrooms right??? darn things only grow lots if you dont want them. you can try putting the rock with the mushroom upagainst the rock you want it on and sometimes the mushy will migrate
  6. lol paul. i didnt actuall notice that i hadnt gotten them untill i tryed plugging it all in. was about 9pm by that time. its all good though, patience is a virtue. 9not one that i posess but a virtue non the less)
  7. about 10 years ago udergravel might have been the norm but skimmers have now become the mainstream form of filtration, (wether it be for temperate of tropical waters)
  8. First event was last night as i was installing the new sump. Took out the old one without a hitch, i put in the new one and started filling it up, after a certain point i noticed that the water level wasnt raising above a certain point which should have set off alarm bells, but nothing registered untill i felt some water on my hand and hello i noticed that i hadn't put the ball valve on the hansen fitting where the skimmers external pump is going. So after some help from my wife (who now knows what a ball valve is) and some salt from slappers (its good that there are some reefers down in the tron) i managed to fix that and get everything connected. (only about 20litres on the floor) i then put in the skimmer and was about to crank it but then remembered i hadnt gotten any plugs to replace the ones on the pump from singapore (which will be put on tommorow). If you can imagine a little child on christmas morning opening the presents and then having them taken away only to be told he cant have them for a few days then you might understand my state of mind
  9. After lots of planning spending and building my tank is almost fully operational, this thread is sort of teh follow on of the last one which was more of a planning and getting ideas/opinions. The tank for those that didnt follow theprevious thread is a 120 gallon tank 1200Lx600hx700w The front and sides are with diamante glass (nice and clear) This thread will basicly track progress and events in the new tank.
  10. well this might well be my last post on this thread, i've decided to start a new one to track the progress of the tank now that it is pretty much all set up. Thanks for the help every one and i look forward to sharing the results on my New thread. :bounce:
  11. if they are black perckys let me know how much they are and i might get one too
  12. at the moment i dont quite have the water movement power needed to do the job for me, that will happen once ive got the money for some streams or vortex whatever.
  13. thats a saddle back clown. (the black variety) still a nice fish though.
  14. atman and viaaqua are one in the same. are they just flouro tubes?? you shouldnt find it hard to find replacement bulbs
  15. like the one on the far right?? http://images.google.co.nz/images?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=polymnus+black+clown&sa=N&tab=wi
  16. This week while i've got some time off im going to try my hand at making a vacuum for my tank, as i dont want to do a water change every time i want to clean off the bottom. my idea so far is fairly simple, get a pump connect it to some hose that is attached to some kind of cannister or bottle that has some filter wool in it and maybe a little carbon, the incoming water is passed trough the filter wool any detritus gets trapped but all the original water stays in the tank and viola permenantly clean tank bottom without needing to do a water change every other day. if anyone has some suggestions feel free to add.
  17. did you say black clowns or black percs/occellaris?
  18. i'd say that is just a variation of the same type, misbar's are pretty cool though
  19. Brianemone

    Spirulina

being powdered i doubt it would benefit the tangs, not sure about the corals.
  20. yeah, it'll be a while before im able to find one small enough
  21. i'll check them out but i need a small one to pair with my perc
  22. yip order me one as well paul, i want a little one to pair with my perc clown i think these would have to be my favourites http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1854
  23. yip the autotop off is a handyone, still waiting on robin to finish his one. so the moral of the story is as long as the excess CO2 is dispelled quikly it will not affect the pH too much
  24. when i pulled out the old sump the bubbles had actually made a bit of skimmate on the walls  i think for now i will just make a little nest of filter wool and egg crate. then i'll experiment with spraybars and bends etc
  25. one other thing, maroons are very fussy about the anemone's they are hosted by usually only going for BTA's
