  1. Well here is how I made some DIY box filters. Start with a glass box - 7x8x12cm, glued together with silicone. Get a piece of stocking place carbon in it and tie it off at both ends, place this in the bottom of the glass box. Get a 14cm length of any type of plastic pipe and place a piece of airline down it so the airline just comes out the top. Place this in the box with the bottom in the middle of the carbon sack. Place filter wool all around the pipe to hold it in place. You have a box filter (or 5) How it works. Air passes through A and air bubbles come out at the bottom of the tube and pass up again through B. When the air bubbles go upwards they also bring water through with them. This creates a water flow where the water flows through C and D and then back up through B. I hope you understand. :roll: :bounce: Enjoy

  4. 20 guppies and 2 bristlenoses going in a poly box to queenstown overnight. will this be alright without a heat pack??

  7. Does anyone know how much air a Silent Flo 5000 and 7000 would pump out?? i am thinking about getting a bigger pump but cant find out how much these ones pump to see which size i need. thanx for any help Daniel

    I just put my pair of scheeli that i got from Alan into their new 11litre tank, they were swimming around happily yesterday but this morning they are hanging around on the bottom apart from when i fed them. is this normal?? thanx in advance for any help
  9. frozen shelled shrimps from the supermarket, mine love them.
  10. yeah just the usuals, e. yellows, and sp. of zebra (pseudotrpheus/maylandia/metriaclima) maybe not hap because some get quite big and some aulonocara sp. as well. also bristlenoses make great cleaners

  12. i saw lots of differnt trios and pairs of killies in Auckland for around $50 per pair, could be a guideline.

  14. Over the last month or two i have had 4 fish die, one almost dead from the same symptoms. Very disorientated, nomally standing on head for a few days and the end up floating at the surface dead a few days later. All of these fish were tanganyikans, one male Altolamprologus in one tank dead, a pair of Neolamprologus Pulcher dead in another tank, and a male and almost a female neolamprologus bricardi dead in another tank hope someone can identify this diease, should i do anything to the tank before putting more fish in those tanks?? also lost a 4cm altolamprologus compressiceps last night after i brought it in auckland yesterday for $75 its gills were red and its mouth was wide open and it was on its side on the bottom this morning. Please help Anyone have tanganyikans for sale?? :roll:

  21. i have fish that spit at 3 days so i get out eggs after 2 days and put them in a 400ml glass jar, hanging on the side of the tank with an air stone. i have had good results with this (50 cyrtocara moorii, 40e.yellows, 30 aurtauses still have eggs sacks, baenschis, and quite a few venustus although quite alot of the venustus are infertile. thanx Daniel btw never thought of using a paper clip. :bounce:

  24. Hi Just enjoyed alans superb talk at the waikato aquarium society meeting in hamilton last night. I joined nzka and came home with a pair of Aphyosemion Scheeli and 8 Gold Lineatus Fry. Ok so now i'm hooked lol. looking at setting up a killie tank stand. Are most killies ok at 18-22degrees celcius because thats what temp my fish room is so would i need heaters. Does anyone have killie eggs for sale?? pm me if you do. Also any infomation on killies would be helpful. Thanx in advance :bounce: Daniel

When i was in dunedin at christmas they had an automatic water changing system, it was around $30-$40 i think, i had two air line tubes connected to this thing that hangs on to the side of the tank and syphons water out and squirts it back in, does anyone have one of these, i would have brought it but i dont have access to chlorine free running water. hope this helps Daniel :bounce:
