  1. this is my 800litre http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=5482 the textilius have since passed away and the baenschi is in another tank. for an mbuna tank, you could try group of each of these - labidochromis caeruleus (electric yellow), any maylandia or pseudotropheus sp. maybe maylandia lombardoi, maybe a group of red zebras (pseudotropheus zebra "orange/red") a group being 1m 3f, and a few larger bristle noses, i think that would look quite good, you would have orange, yellow and blue. maybe you could substitute the lombardoi for some cyrtocara moorii??
  2. lol  they have their own little tank now and the male has got his favourite cave (the only one i can't see into  )
  3. not bad price really, bricardi get up to $40 ea.

    Problem Fish

how big is the tank?? shame about the greshakei. i personally dont like the auratuses because of the colour changing, they all seem to turn into males i have 3 males and one female at the moment i had to take one beaten up male out though. i find it is best to crowd the fish, i have in a 200 litre tank -8 electric yellows 1m 7f -trio of copad. borleyi -pair of aul. baenschi -pair of cyrto. moorii -one upsidedown syno before i put the electric yellows in there was a scrap every night and the male borleyi got picked on, but when i put all the yellows in they didn't know who to fight with. maybe you should try this??
  7. yay lol 8) i will put the one that is not in the pair separate from the other two, you think he will be happy with malawis?
  8. should b plenty big enough, lot of rock & places to hide and you could go with maybe 10 or so.
  9. agro bricardi, unlikely, do have any pictures of them?
  10. caryl, i only have two bn's a male and female in the tank.
  11. Hi, We may be going up to auckland in the next couple of weeks so what shops in auckland are the best to go and see, we normally go to hollywood mt. roskill and jansens mt. eden and maybe jansens botany. what other shops are good for selection of africans (cichlids and catfish) or cheap accessories etc.?
  12. i'm pretty sure one of my females bred twice within a week. there was one big clutch of eggs and another clutch half the size. they laid them in a section of bamboo, so when they were about to come out i filled the tube with water then tipped that water into a breeding trap and i repeated that several times resulting with around 150 bn fry in the trap. next i noticed that some of the fry were without egg sacks and alot more developed than the other 40 or so that were quite young, so this proved my theory of there being two clutches of eggs, good for me lol
  13. depends if i can get dad to bring me 8)
  14. tropical blues has eheim 2213's for $170 and if you are a fnzas affiliated club member then you can get 10% offf that as well - $153 I have an eheim 2213, 2215 and 3 fluval 404's. i reckon the fluvals are better for the more messy types of larger fish because they are better at getting bigger particles. I think the eheims are probably better for smaller tanks with plants etc. because they have finer filtration. So for your tank i would reccommend an eheium 2213, i dont think the priming is a hassle really because you dont actually have to prime it much but i suppes that is up to you. i have heard from people on other forums that the new jebo 828 is the best thing that ever happened to them, they reckon it is better than the fluvals.
  15. if it was their first time i wouldn't expect them to hold full term but by the third time they should have it right, you could strip the eggs and put them in a container with and airstone with the eggs just gently rolling on the bottom to imitate the females churning motion, i successfully hatched 60 or so blue lumphead fry using this method, i also have 20 more electric yellow eggs and 30 electric yellow fry with eggs sacks in a container at the moment.
  16. what sp. of malawis are these?? i have seen some mbuna females with eggs spots, really need to know the sp. though, probably nothing to worry about. 8)
  17. i dont really get how this concept works :-? at the moment, they just get spirulina discs and the occasional pea and sometimes some cucumber, i do have shrimp pellets but they didn't take any interest in them.
