  1. ich kann nicht meine Fische noch finden
  2. buen brian inglés. que puedo traducir, hahahaaa!
  3. oooh he even has a juvey emporer. nice one of my fav fish 4 sure.
  4. as above, READ READ READ! three most important things in reefing: 1. time. you need a fair bit of it, especially in the start plus ongoing maintenance, plus when the bug really kicks in, you'll probably waste more time on this site than on your tank  2. money. dont ever under estimate the cost of a marine tank. budget on at least $5k, otherwise risk it failing. sure, others will have done it cheaper, but at what cost? maintenance usually. 3. patience. natural reefs were made overnight
  5. no dont use a spray bar in a saltwater tank, you may get salt creep and the holes will eventually clog up. better off having the water dumped into the tank (or if you want 'Y' it off two ways say at 45 degrees each if you are going to have an insane amount of return flow. then you could have the return in the middle dispersing flow nicely to both sides) dont forget if you have an external return pump, to add ball valves to each side so you can unplug easily for maintenance (not mandatory for a return, just easier) want to sleep at night? yes, pretty much. see the links above.
  6. elbows in flexible hose,... now thats clever, not.
  7. i would not drill for the return, you risk emptying to the bottom of the hole should your power go off. this could be quite a bit of water even at 1" below the water line. use plumbing up and over instead, that way you can alter later on if you want to add, say a sea swirl or some other rotating device. you can use non-return valves etc but they can get clogged and reduce flow. only drill for closed loops. here is my return into the 1" sea swirl: any drilling will weaken the glass, he's covering his arse by telling you that it will be strong enough so long as any drilling done is not too close to the edges. for the overflow hole, drill it near the bottom, but as above, not too close for obvious reasons. then, add a durso standpipe to the mix to cut down overflow noise. heres the best pics I could find of my overflow:
  8. rowaphos nuked my phosphates. zeovit anyone?
  9. aye that it was. cracker, when you getting next batch of water? this weekend? if so, gimme a bell friday.
  10. yes, i think joeblogg is using it. not my cup of tea though, stick with rigid pvc pressure piping where possible.
  11. oh dear layton that WAS sad!!!
  12. i blame the weather. and at the cost of ASW, I'd rather wait and do a 50%'er this weekend.
  13. nope, he was very well behaved and really cool to watch him zoom around my angel is the only fish that harasses corals and only mushrooms... at the moment. one large patch is almost gone! hair algae etc i put down more to no water change for a while - but certainly not helped by a (reasonably large on last account) bi-colour blenny meat.
  14. stevea came over tonight. nice to meet finally. as we were chatting, i came to the realisation that i havent seen my bi-bolour blenny for a few weeks. i wonder if thats what has added to my sudden increase in nutrients and hair algae growth?!!! damn, loved that fish too. perhaps he'll show up a few weeks later?! :-?
  15. blue gets my vote, but whatever colour only makes sense if you're willing to scrape the coralline off the back of the tank. i just did again the other night - and my tanks never looked better  but seriously, aesthetically it does make a difference, shows the aquascaping off better rather than looking all washed out,... if you can excuse the pun
  16. the only protein i was aware of is in the yolk sak when they're first hatched. after a day or two they lose the sak and are no more nutritious to fish than mcdonalds is to you or i
  17. good start, now buy another batch from another jansens shop and do exactly the same! at least its a low result for the first. try hff too reminds me actually, i owe jss a bag of carbon! sorry steve, will get you it soon!
  18. phew, you're lucky its only 80 litres you could be losing!!! pies, just imagine if our tanks cracked - and especially yours! swim for your lives!!!
  19. so true pies, the smoother the inside surface the skimmer, the better the bubbles attach to it. thats why its important to clean the whole inside of the neck, not just the cup as many people do!

    new saltwater

the water level should sit around about half way up the horizontal part of the durso pipe (that runs back to the downpipe). the height of the whole durso is just common sense, not too high that you lose the purpose of the overflow but not too low that the water dropping is too noisy. the top of the horizontal part of my durso is about 2" below the overflow. the size of the hole in the top of the durso is used to finely adjust the water level. smaller hole means lower water level, larger hole means higher water level.
  21. holy crap reef!!! thats naaaaaasty!
