  1. probably too big, it would dose too fast for a small tank. the aquamedic sp3000 does 3L per hour - that's a third of the tank! unless you put it on a timer and dose for a few minutes at a time? you would really need to rig up some form of float switch because the margin of error for topup is so small with such a small tank. have to have something like a float switch, solenoid and dosing pump. i got two aquamedic sp300's, they are great peristaltic pumps for the price. maybe try these guys? http://www.watersystems.co.nz/suppliers/pulsafeeder.htm smallest is 0.4lph. something that was variable rate would be ok if you didnt want it automated.
  2. good point brendan. ever since i started using zeovit, i actually feel quite sick myself... even my legs are starting to RTN
  3. now all you need is a 1,000 litre sump, kalk topup, calcium reactor, deltec skimmer and zeovit reactor and you're set
  4. cool, keep detailed updates, should be interesting.
  5. wow, all i need to do is quote a random element from the periodic table and you can be sure wasp and lduncan will have a debate over it
  6. yeah sorry, boomer. interesting topic, funny that randy holmes-farley doesnt want to pass comment as he doesn't know what's in it  http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=633313
  7. oops, better get the right name before I give the wrong dude sh!t. the one that hangs out in the reef chemistry forum.
  8. According to Bomber on RC, zeolites are inert in SW and can't absorb ammonia :-? but then again I hear Bomber is just anti-zeovit...
  9. Hell yes, about 6 months ago, then again just prior to going with Zeovit, then twice again in the last week! Not to mention reading other articles on the web and some posts on Zeovit forums. Easy as. The pump is on a timer on/off every 3 hours, so no work there. The media is shaken up each morning before I go to work, if I forget it's not a major. Dosing is (currently) 10 drops of Zeobac and 10 drops of Zeofood every 2nd night. Have to keep the bac in the fridge - not a major as kitchen is upstairs near the main tank anyway. Just dose this into the main tank near the overflow. Likewise with the food, keep in a drawer right next to tank. Dosing changes to twice a week shortly. I am definately noticing changes now (yes, even after 1 day from when I said I didnt notice much) Colouration is extended from the tips further down the coral (some of them more than others) Only a few mm in most cases but noticeable. The water clarity is still very good. I was still running Rowaphos but removed it last night. I decided to leave it for a couple more days after starting Zeovit to try and further reduce any phosphates in the system (as Zeovit stops ammonia at the beginning of the nitrogen cycle)
  10. what is the debate about iron based phosphate removers - and why are they so bad? is it about leaching iron into the water? if thats the case, just get yourself a heliopora (blue coral) as they can extract iron from the water, oxidise it to a blue salt which is deposited into the skeleton a potential theory?! :-? regarding zeovit and TN, from what ive read TN can happen anywhere from 'extremely quickly' (within a couple of hours) to 'slowly' (over several weeks) it can also happen for a number of factors. i always decided Im going to 'half dose' zeovit (from the recommended amount) and let the system take care of itself, monitoring it as i go of course. however its one thing to learn from reading web sites and hearing others opinions, but IMO best to learn first hand based on your own system, even though it can end up costly! on the contrary, i've read about zeovit tanks with higher alk (similar or even higher than mine) and they seem to be doing fine, so i dont fully read into the equation that 'zeovit + high alk = TN'. but nonetheless i do value the input, thanks.
  11. well it's better having a decent Ca to allow the coral to grow than not
  12. I run a calcium reactor 24x7 so that will keep Ca levels up anyway. don't we all.
  13. yes, it's a milli. and no brian, you can't have a frag because its so small it can't even BE fragged!!! when it grows big enough I'll send you a frag though. I will stop dosing kalkwasser with my topup. that should lower alk a bit in time.
  14. Yes, but not more, just MUCH darker. Undetectable for PO4, NO3, etc Ca 420, Mg 1500, Akl 10 Ammonia 500ppm,... kidding.
  15. It's only been 3 days since I've started with Zeovit and have not yet noticed any change in coral colour - not that I'd expect too yet, taking it slow (except for perhaps a millepora which looks slightly lighter showing a blueish tinge 'underneath' and the tips of some acro's 'ever so slightly' lighter) After a day of running zeovit non-stop, I changed the pump to run off a timer which turns on/off every 3 hours (after working out the pump is rated for 1400lph yet I should only be pumping about 800lph through it) What is noticeably different however, is how much clearer the water is. I did add about 800grams of fresh carbon yesterday, however I have always run activated carbon changing about every 6-8 weeks (but usually only about 300 - 500 grams at a time) Not sure if the double in carbon quantity would solely add to the water clarity. If there is noticeable improvement in any corals on Thursday (1 week after starting Zeovit) I'll post some new pic's. BTW, I just worked out roughly what it will cost me run a Zeovit system (excluding outlay on reactor and pump) - $1 a day.
  16. just a "bit" more high tech?

    xenia growth

edited the first post to show 3rd 'growth' pic of the xenia frag as at yesterday, 3 weeks after the last.
  18. so do we omit those we own that are illegal
  19. cheers reef, but i'll blame that on poor reflectors,... but mainly bad camera settings they look much brighter under normal viewing. btw, dont kill my thread with zeovit debates and arguing over like above. continue with one of the many previous whining threads on that topic if you must.
  20. Just prior to starting Zeovit... Ok, some pic's of acro's between 01 July and 30th August 2005 (most photo's taken recently, those that aren't are because there is little difference to their colour now). Some acro's show some signs of starting to colour but most are predominantely brown. The poc is a pinkish brown, the millepora starting to go pink with green tips. stag's are all brown with blue tips. Some photo's are just frags fixed at various places around the tank... 30 august 30 august 30 august 30 august 15 august 30 august 11 july 30 august 7 august 11 july 7 august and finally a zoom out shot of part of the right side of the tank, 30 august
  21. oooooh cant feel any love on this one  makes more sense being a sudden drop in nutrients rather than the addition of one.
  22. oooohhhh you can just feel the love...
  23. i think that's definately where you and i differ ben! i am SICK and tired of seeing brown sps
