  1. depends on the pump you're using. if only 3/4" outlet, then no restriction (the inner diameter of the locline is actually larger than 3/4" pressure pipe) if you were using 1" like i did, then obviously yes. again, the benefits outweigh the reduction in flow,... IMO. try educators as well?
  2. hey, yes blackwoods and pykel's do have a very limited supply of them (I assume you work in albany? or a different branch?!) they had a very very small supply of 1/2" locline piping. no nozzles though unfortunately. sort of. i actually ended up getting the parts i needed through the marine depot order placed a while back. i got 3/4" (which did mean restricting flow back into the tank from the closed loops as the rest of plumbing is 1" - locline dont do 1" yet) however flow only (feels) marginally restricted. not a concern based on the convenience factor of being able to direct flow so easily with them! they are very expensive for what they are, but VERY convenient and i think very well worth it for a one off cost. i believe joeblog got some locally somewhere too? he also got some through the marinedepot order. makes me wish i ordered $100 worth and sold them locally for a small profit!!!
  3.   i could just see it now... damn, get that picture out of my head! ha ha haaaa!!! classic.
  4. i cant offer any advice on this but i will say good on ya, the best thing you did was actually ask before jumping in and buying one! save your pocket and potentially the life of a lil fishy
  5. just while we're on the subject, i assume this is for feeding fry? if so, you are better off feeding fish newly hatched brine shimp as they still have the yolk sak attached, thats the nutritious (yum yum ) part. otherwise, i hear adult brine shrimp dont offer too much else? correct me if im wrong, just from what i've read
  6. if everyone keeps quoting their quoted comments that were quoted from a previous post (does that make sense?) and essentially arguing about something so pointless its not funny (re-read what you've all posted, it's going nowhere) then cees is going to run out of disk space and the whole Internet will crash
  7. 1.What system of sand bed/ non sand bed do you use? shallow sandbed, about 1/2" in display, 1" in refugium 2.Why did you choose this? Aesthetics, no other reason. 3.a)Asthecticially which type do you prefer? Shallow sand bed b)practically which do you prefer? BB, easier maintenance 4.Have you ever experienced the "crash" if using a dsb? What happened? no 5.Are you happy with the current system you are using? Yes and no. Yes coz it looks good, no coz its harder to keep clean. 6.What are the benefits/negatives you have found when using this system? Likewise, see 5. 7.Have you ever changed/considered changing your sand/no sand system? If so Why? Yes, BB for maintenance. Then I looked at it and thought, yuck, that looks like sh#$!@ 8*.Labour or National I have no issue answering this one! National all the way, gimme some of my tax money back! Get rid of the current Robin Hood govt.
  8. JB how could you POSSIBLY have 100 times turnover!!!!!! 8)
  9. i can id it, it's called B. atman andRob inthecaped crusader crab spp.
  10. its not a 'real' test without a colorometer is it? i would put money on it the majority of carbon tests would show up as 'undetectable' on a standard salifert (or others) phosphate kit. only a colorometer will help show the finer detail. wasp, i suggest you do EXACTLY the same test (same amount, same period of time, same container, same batch of RODI) with other carbons from other stores. also do the same test on carbon from 2 different jansens stores at different internals (just incase you get a good/bad batch) its easy enough to do a test and make that 'the statistic' but it doesnt necessarily prove anything unless you show a wider range of results. at the least it should give some peace of mind to most of us....!
  11. bigger water changes, more maintenance, more tanks = more things that can go wrong. i think sump and refugium volume = same volume of your display is sufficient... unless you have reason otherwise (big frag growout tank, macroalgae tank, equipment tank etc) no reason why you cant go bigger, but the display is what you're going to be looking at. id put the difference towards a bigger skimmer instead. if it were me and I had that room, go for 2 x 6 footers, not 4!
  12. completely agree brian, go the bigger display!

    Light??

typically 10 hours is about right. monitor and adjust from there depending on algae growth etc.
  14. i got a hair algae issue too, im guessing i have existing nutrients leaching from my sand bed. i dont put it down to zeovit failing to work as zeovit works at the ammonia level. for me, i think its time to suck out my sand out and clean it then do a decent water change (overdue) then, just wait for the skimmer to do its thing.

same,... i had none visible then all of a sudden it starts popping up EVERYWHERE!!!
  16. no wonder your tank does so well!!! just look at the spot you collect from!!! pity it's wellies but...
  17. i could find plenty more from where that came. end of the day, petplanets prices are more than reasonable so why would you bother sourcing overseas to save $20? if it were $200 that would be a different story!
  18. it was only a matter of time...
  19. you quoted it as your own and its sure going to be cost effective importing them from australia... not.
  20. your tank stinks steve - must be all that xenia
  21. you could have just quoted this site reef... http://www.psifilters.com.au/Be%20Careful.htm
