  1. pm me if you want some since no one else is willing to help i have a number of babies but give it a few months - they grow quick
  2. i would assume being inverts they will need acclimatising. where is the best rock pools around auckland to get glass shrimps then? has anyone else collected them in akl?
  3. anyways, back on topic is it a good idea, bad idea, doesnt matter either way?
  4. "the (right) moment" - thats the problem. im pretty happy with the results of zeovit in just over 4 weeks, especially considering there has only been a single 10% water change in 6 weeks. getting the wife to get a bag of salt today and a water change will be done tonight. I'll put new pic's in another 4 weeks time (or earlier if there are significant changes)
  5. looking at that last post of your pies where you collect water from, at least it "looks" so crystal clear - and at least you're getting to do water changes! good old auckland weather - fine during the week then p@#$ down on the weekend
  6. who needs ics when you have a dsl router!
  7. thats what i did on my 5 footer, added a 3rd 150 in the middle,... and my tanks never looked better  (but seriously, it does make a big difference)
  8. thanks mate, appreciate it. now for some mutha water changes....
  9. no, 10k was added about a month before starting zeovit. certainly made an improvement with aesthetics - and being in the better 'growth' spectrum would certainly help with photosynthesis too.
  10. cool, beers at your house this weekend for tank warming party
  11. got 250W 14k's on the outside and a 150W 10k in the middle. calcium reactor doses 24x7 which helps with growth tank at 25 degrees, temp controlled so doesnt tend to move much dose cyclop-eeze every 2nd night which may contain amino acids
  12. Ok, updated pic's. I've included photo's already (posted on page 36, which made me realise how much crap was posted after that) from around August just before starting Zeovit to compare. Bear in mind however, I have only done a single 100 litre water change since then. This is about 500 litres short of what zeovit recommend  Doing a 200 litre water change tomorrow night then another 200+ litre change next weekend then 100 litres every 1-2 weeks after that. So, the pic's don't give justice to how zeovit should work because of my lack of maintenance. However, it still shows that it works - and I'd be most interested to see what the corals would have been like if i'd continued with weekly 10% changes since starting. Most noticeable is a definate increase in diatom growth! *start self-sarcasm* gee i wonder why *end self-sarcasm* 30 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 30 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 30 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 7 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 7 august 3 october (oops, knocked the top off ) ------------------------------------------------- 13 august 3 october there are more pic's, but not worthy of posting as there is little change other than a "lighter" brown. quite likely these corals will need a little more time before zooxanthallae starts growing.
  13. , wont be the last time that happens

    Cleaner sex

covering your butt there pies,... excuse the pun...
  15. sweet as, if you need a lift with the cabinet on the weekend gimme a bell oops, did i say weekend? arhhh, you'll be done by then! how convenient nah but seriously, tonight or tomorrow if ya need a lift gimme a call.
  16. nope, only a few pods (not many, if any.. boom boom chish...) cleaner shrimps are obviously good for cleaning parasites off fish etc, but what other major purposes for the cleanliness of the tank do they serve?need a cleaner for around the sand bed and other areas. have snails cleaning glass etc but nothing much else in the fuge.
  17. i have 3 cleaner shrimp in my main tank and was considering placing one of them in the refugium to help keep a little with cleanup. i would imagine there would be bits of food that get sucked into the overflow and down to the refugium. is there any disadvantage of doing this? i notice cleaner shrimps seem to hang out in pairs, would this effect him? was considering replacing the cleaner in the main tank with a coral banded shrimp. thoughts?
  18. pretty darn clever according to the article
  19. tell mother nature to be nice to me then! i have noticed increased diatom and hair algae growth and a reduced coralline algae growth. cant blame anyone but myself (and mother nature ) - its just a PITA. here's hoping for a fine end of week
  20. when you going for your next water change dude? im just brewing up 200 litres for a change tomorrow night. i've run RODI for about 16 hours and just hit around 200 litres now I have to buy an (expensive) bag of salt mix. aye carumba, probably the biggest reason i dislike ASW. quicker to nip down to the beach... if mother nature can just give me a few days of nice weather before and over the weekend!!!
