  1. in the last lot I had 2 ripe females, both started digging under the plants as soon as they got into the tank, next day the first one was dead, no eggs left on her but you could see her all open up underneath where she was holding. the second one her eggs all went pink then she died a day later. every other one is still alive, both males and females. I thin k the babies died when she didn't release them which killed the mothers.
  2. They are in a sale tank atm so not a problem, If It was not then you are right and no way would they be there. just making sure as its annoying having to do emergency re-homing
  3. Tank is 300L, but it is a display tank so fully grown size is not an issue (plus got heaps of other tanks should it become one)
  4. Got a tank with 3 young surinamensis approx 7-8cm, 1 x Decorus Syno, 4 x slender hemidosis, 3 x Opaline gourami, 1 x redspot pleco (approx 15cm) 1x golden algae eater and the star of the tank 1x banded leporinus would 3 small oscars go in without any problems???, it previously had 3 large angels with no problems but wondering if the oscars and surinamensis would clash
  5. just comes down to appropriate choices, no point having a BGK in a 60L tank, but a school of CPD's and some dwarf cories is fine
  6. I could just pick mine up and bring it , anyone got a spare powerpoint? my g/f's driving style would simulate a storm surge
  7. pic # 9 (i think) shows a small red spot where you thought the bump was and a slight depression, maybe there was a fluid buildup putting pressure on the spine causing swimming problems etc....
  8. I like dwarf cichlids myself, all the fun of the big ones without the problems
  9. im actually finding more atm than during summer, and most of the females (big ones) are holding eggs. leave the ones with eggs behind as ime all the females that are holding die in your tank
  10. i'd prefer it if that screaming blonde was in the passenger seat
  11. just avoid anything too porous or soft
  12. I wonder if monster is going to sue McDonalds for using the "M" logo
  13. just to keep you keen until picture time
  14. few minutes with an angle grinder and your away, watch out tho cause they are used for chemical transport so they need a REALLY good wash out (and also watch your pH as many have been transporting industrial acid)
  15. creeks must be linked to the sea, and ime if you find water cress theres normally shrimp in the root system
  16. have to wait till I finish moving house, might take a quick snap of the shop tank for you tho
  17. am thinking about making a U shaped net to place downstream of a section of rocks. but I am wondering about the legalities of using a net in Freshwater, or does that only apply to the capture of trout?
  18. when I was 5 years old my dad worked in the missions in Nairobi, first time I have seen photos of there tho
  19. i've never had any problems with it, im pretty sure the metal form of lead is almost totally inert anyway and doesn't dissolve unless used in very acidic conditions
  20. don't always blame the retail, sometimes theres some shockers come through the wholesalers. but most of the time they are pretty good. but as ryanjury says when you can get a purebred fish for $12wholesale and it sits in the tank for 6 months, compared to a $3 hybrid that moves quickly, its economics that dictates the options, but if the LFS is aware that there are buyers out there for the better quality fish they normally start to stock them. also the $12 fish that sits there is effectively raising the prices on every other fish in the store.
  21. very happy (and lucky) squirtle
  22. +1 Post haste always my choice. The wholesaler in Tauranga uses them as well should be approx $35 for a interisland ticket, plus any extra for rural delivery etc...
  23. ummm strange that it is illegal to import as the New Zealand "native" Species seems to occur around the world http://mytriops.com/articles/triops_species2.stm
