  2. don;t feel bad for the koi
  3. when you somehow agree to do a presentation on fish.
  4. hence the ladder i wonder if fish are affected by low gravity, maybe more by air pressure would love to see a zero gravity blob of water with a fish living inside, come on technology!!!!
  5. in a well balanced tank algae will exist but very rarely be visible, its all about finding the balance, in truth i'm having trouble getting algae to grow in my tank

  8. yeah, most LFS's only order them in if they are asked, they are a lot blander and harder to get anyone breeding these guys??? I'm after a few more females and there hasn't been any on the lists for a while.
  9. I think you would be asking for trouble, better to put him a heated bucket with an air stone and some algae until he goes, or leave him where he is until he goes,
  10. its more about how many places they can stay out of sight from each other, easier with lots of tall plants
  11. im surprised there are any with goldfish in there, not nematodes??, even then the goldies should munch them back quickly, more a sign of too much sludge on the bottom, they will disappear when turtles get in there and stir it up a bit
  12. yeah that was my though, if there is multiple pieces then the chances of one being slightly higher or warping are increased
  13. yes there is, they are NZ natives http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=49106
  14. didn't look as bad until the last photo.... better late than never though
  15. maybe placing some thick ply underneath the poly will help even out the weight distribution and reduce the risk of the tank leaking again
  16. if you can get an FX5 for a good price, snap it up, awesome filters. sounds like your hooked already
  17. theres good pygmy cories around occasionally, but thy need lotsa hidey holes or they can be shy, or if you think the tank is big enough try 4-5 of the panda cories or other smaller ones, or chain loaches (though they may nip the betta), or freshwater shrimp
  18. try getting some sinking pellets fo him and while he's distracted chuck in some floating flakes
  19. $5 probably stresszyme, many shops give away the sample size ones so they can sell fish straight away cycle is blue, stresszyme is red
  20. yeah but a small amount of a phosphate based detergent (many laundry powders are like this) can do a lot of damage
  21. i've found that the fish from one supplier go mental over pleco chips, but from another (unfortunately the cheaper one) will only touch fresh algae or crushed peas (although they do eat a bit of sunken flake food)
