good question mahn. unfortunately they have to be specifically named on the list by scientific name to be allowed into NZ. sweet, thanks for answering that question for me mahn. no worries mahn.

i was wondering about that. are there specific plecos on "the list" or are plecos as a whole allowed into NZ?

turns out most of my shrimp were disappearing not just because of the cichlids eating them, but because my cat was catching them. seriously! that darn pussy! always ruining things. i have recently put a heater in said tank and kept it around 28c. i saw a live shrimp in there today and yesterday. that makes a good 2 months it's been in there for. gonna get some more soon and put them into the same tank now it's heated and see how they do. will take the cichlids out before i do.

do not use apple snails or mystery snails. i have had a group of 4 of them completely clear out a tank of 40 small to medium size "guppies" in a matter of weeks. so i kept putting the little fish in there and the little fish kept disappearing and the snails quickly grew bigger than snooker balls. but i never did catch them in the act. how they managed to catch fish, is still a mystery to me.
