  1. animals that can't process what is happening http://imgur.com/gallery/jSad5
  2. back story: about to be wallet thief can't believe his luck and takes a photo beforehand to prove it to his mates...
  3. it also has sewerage, all sorts of chemicals and whatever else gets washed down the drains...
  4. depends on what kind of fish and how heavily stocked. when i had 5 large goldfish in a 180l i had to change 80% of water every day. but i never change water on my planted tank, just top it up when it evaporates to below the filter outlet. only has a few small fish in it and plenty of plants to keep water fresh. depending on what kind of fish he has, he could feed them by adding 50-100 feeder fish before he leaves.
  5. is that a wallet with cash in it that he is holding out for the taking?
  6. it always amuses me when people are so sure that their own assumptions are a fact, simply because they are their own assumptions.
  7. eels will probably burrow in the substrate and dig up the plants.
  8. you'd also need to section off the sump with bits of glass, siliconed in. in my opinion i really do think you'd be much better off with a canister.
  9. yeah what hovmoller said. that's pretty much the main difference between the two. and with a sump, assuming it's a decent size, you can put in a lot more media than you could in a cannister. but really i have always preferred the no fuss-ness of a cannister filter. they are really good these days. an FX5 would be perfect for that tank. david_r is selling one at the moment for 150. if it hasn't been sold already. good deal!
  10. my L001 is at or near 30cm. got her ~5 years ago, she was about 10cm then. she poos a lot, but cleans up a lot too. took her out of my big tank for two weeks while my jag had eggs, and the tank got filthy, never realised how much she cleans up until she was out of the tank. eats all the food the fish don't. saves me fishing out bits of mouldy/rotting shrimp and heart. been feeding her massivore recently, she's getting a lot wider! sometimes she looks patchy, like in this pic, and sometimes she doesn't. dunno what causes it.
  11. how is the tap water chemistry in palmy? how suitable is it for pouring directly into a fish tank?
  12. yes guys obviously it's going to be better to use bigger pipes. but it will still be worth upgrading your filter even if your only choice is to use the smaller, existing plumbing. yes it will slow the potential flow rate of the new filter, but the filter will not mind a bit of resistance. if you consider; the bigger the filter, the more area for good bacteria and more space for mechanical filtration. both of those things will benefit your tank.
  13. i'm guessing you're not a single parent with a part time job... if i can't replace it, what do you reckon it will do on the planted tank?
  14. i want to know if i can use this for a planted tank. it's a 3 foot long uv light. writing on bulb is reptiglo 2.0 exo terra 36*/91cn. also says "for reptile use only" (hence my query) and it is quite old, at least a couple of years. tank planted with sword, ambulia, val, hairgrass etc, also stocked with small angel fish, loaches, gobys, it is running co2 and currently does not have sufficient lighting. will this reptile bulb help or hurt the plants and/or fish?
  15. really, really wish i had kept my albino red oscar. she's in a mates 1200l tank now, and i visit her often. i miss her. i miss keeping oscars. i have been seriously considering moving all my fish on and investing in another 600+ litre tank for a pair.
  16. you don't reckon that's photo shopped?
  17. pppfffhhhhhahahaahahahahaahahhahaaH
