  1. It's not likely to be a specific plant but all the plants causing it. If you're happy with the paper towel trick then you're sorted
  2. Doesn't look too happy does he? Is he breathing hard/fast? I'd start with some salt in the water but after that i don't know where to go. How is he going this afternoon?
  3. That's good to know. I'm just not sure I have the footprint for it in the current sump or the cabinet it's going in. I'll do some measuring tomorrow. Like the algae scrubber I really like the idea of the dsb as it's just doing stuff that happens in the wild.
  4. Wasn't planning to but now that you mention it I'll see if there's enough room. I'll be putting as much live rock/rubble in there as possible. Actually, since deciding this afternoon to add the sump it has freed me up to try many different options. In theory the algae scrubber and live rock should remove all the nitrates but a dsb wouldn't hurt as a backup. I have an el-cheapo aqua one skimmer here too but apparently they're a nightmare to get working well so I'll leave that out to start with.
  5. You can chose the guitars or the game to show it's compatibility on that page. It's quite well done. Seems guitar hero is pretty limited in it's compatibility but rock band will take pretty much anything.
  6. I bought an aquaone hydrometer/thermometer to make sure I keep the salinity the same throughout the cycle by adding pure dew top ups. It seems I've added a lot more water than was in there originally as the water level is up to the black rim now vs. what it started at. Is that to be expected? I would have thought the goal would be to keep the water level the same. Maybe I should try the hydrometer on the bucket of NSW that has had the lid on it for a week or so and compare. Should I do a NSW water change to reset everything? Current water results show ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are all through the roof. I'm hoping the ammonia starts to drop soon but I'm expecting to wait a few more weeks for that. I have built an algae turf scrubber in a 30L sump to give it a go but need to get a return pump to finish it off. That one's going to have to wait until pay day.
  7. Just finished sweeping the water out from under the house. I'm sure it won't be the last time I walk away from a running hose and completely forget about it but I'd like to think it won't happen again too soon. The guppies are happy with their 200% water change.
  8. Congrats! I've just been showing off the fish to my wife's uncle and parents. They left with plant cuttings for their goldfish tank. Not sure how well they'll last but it gave me an excuse to trim a bit more.
  9. I'd say it's borderline. How big are the plecs? More is always better when filters are involved though. Oh, and CF1200s are great filters at a great price.
  10. yellow evo? pshhhh mohawk all the way. :nfs: or :smot:
  11. Oh, here you go, this says the rock band 2 guitars are compatible with rock band 3 but not the other way round which is another way of putting what fishpond said. So it doesn't matter what title you have as long as the instrument is for the oldest of the titles you're looking at.
  12. Domesticated but sometimes they're too domesticated and they become the mental flatmate. Yellow or Blue?
  13. It's my first go-to treatment for anything. A concentrated mixture like the one in your book is a good way to treat really obvious symptoms of fin rot as well as a few other ailments.
  14. Check the difference between the ps2 and ps3 versions at http://www.mightyape.co.nz - i think the ps2 uses an adapter for the wireless? Otherwise I believe the guitars work for all rock band titles and probably cross over to the other music titles as well. At the end of the day they're just the same as the handheld controller but shaped like a guitar.
  15. What Caryl said x2. Point a spray bar from the filter at the surface so it ripples and breaks up the oil/scum. Unfortunately this is a pretty standard byproduct of (esp.) planted tanks. It looks yuck from above but really doesn't do much. I'd make sure to suck away as much of it as possible on water change day and then the surface agitation looks after the rest. Another approach, assuming you do have a planted tank, is to increase the fertilisers/co2 to combat the algae/scum by promoting plant growth. Since properly dosing my tanks with ferts and co2 I don't have algae and I don't get the scum. But it is a bit more work. Info on this approach is covered here - http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50222
  16. It's clearly a bit like fishkeeping I always imagined it'd be about $1000 to start and then a whole new plane every time you crashed (which I suspect will happen a few times while learning) so never really followed up on it. Also, the only time I really priced it up was in the late 90s and it was very very expensive then.
  17. Thanks for starting this thread. I've often wondered about getting into rc flying but never really known what to expect price wise and really where to start.
  18. 1 maybe 2 paratya curvirostris and that's about it. (see how I used the scientific name to make it seem like I know what I'm doing?)
  19. My 3 year old claimed all 30 of my lemon tetra as his own. I said he could only have the ones he gave names. He came up with about 12 but Lemon Juice is the only one he remembers now. Other than that i don't name my fish
  20. Logitech although it's a bit like comparing apples with a pizza cutter. Yacht or Launch?
  21. What will the damp do to vinyl/hi-fi gear? I like the idea but don't really consider most humid fish rooms suitable for electronic awesomeness like great record players.
  22. Oi, you've got 3 years on me missy. :sage: Why I aughta....
  23. Ahh, yeah sorry, I didn't realise this was a salt water discussion. For marine it's sumps all the way!
  24. Well I'll be... I'm more than happy to be corrected. Maybe I'll head out for a drive tomorrow
