  1. It looks too awesome. Please dumb it down.
  2. You don't need the blue in the LED one but it will be an improvement over the current setup. I'd go with the t5 ho setup.
  3. Actually, that's a really good point. If you've got access to NSW like that you should totally give it a go. Well, that is if you hadn't sold/given your tank away I'd say don't go any bigger than 50-80 litres max so you can do significant water changes without having to lug too many buckets from the waters edge.
  4. steel hose clamps will ensure those never come off.
  5. just ordered a bunch of stuff from fish-street. I bit the bullet and got a caralife uv steriliser for the big tank to get whatever is in there once and for all.
  6. Haha, you know you want to . Yeah, Pure Dew in the 10L bottles from the supermarket. I'm using normal salt water for changes so the pure dew is just for top ups from evaporation.
  7. haha, that's part of the in game experience isn't it? I prefer bfbc2 but it's just as rage inducing sometimes.
  8. oh yeah, I'm heating the sick fish tank. It's on it's way up to 30ish.
  9. Sweet, will have to pop in and say hi when you actually get there. Tanks running at 25.8 consistently. Might have to go for a UV filter at some point in the near future...
  10. Well done. Is that for Takanini or something/somewhere else? In other news - I'm sick of chasing whatever is wrong in my tank. Still getting pandas and lemons flashing occasionally and I've now got a heckelli in quarantine as it has been extremely out of sorts and not eating. Is now sitting on the bottom of a bare 3 foot tank looking very unamused.
  11. Where do we buy tickets? oh, and it must really suck to have rush munroes as your local  :slfg: also - didn't make the pet expo meeting.
  12. ha! you've seen my house, they don't clean their cages either.
  13. same height as my 700L - it does look good with angels.
  14. Ahh, I did wonder how you'd spread the light on yours. I notice the lamps are biased towards the island but overflow into the rest of the tank. I have a 70W halide sitting here that would be just the thing for a single island...
  15. There's quite a big difference between bird barn and non bird barn prices but there is also a big price difference between selling birds in Auckland and elsewhere in the country. In Auckland you can ask $150+ for an alex because their fairly hard to find and there is a market (a very small one mind you) and they don't last long on the market at good prices. That said - next time you're selling one let me know
  16. Off to the beach to collect nsw and then swinging by henwards to pick up supplies before the afk meeting at 7.
  17. Rats are awesome. This is the second thread on them in the recent times that has had me wondering whether or not to get a couple. If they cleaned their own cages I'd have them straight away.
  18. sounds great. pics or it didn't happen
  19. You shouldn't need carbon unless you're putting chemicals/medication in your water. I fell for that trap when I first started out too. In your filter put some bio noodles / ehfimax type stuff with some filter wool on top and you're sorted - this will last a long time and you won't have to go to the LFS every month to buy consumables you don't need.
  20. I have to agree with buzzy - I really like it the way it is.
  21. Silica is often used as a natural remedy/treatment. It promotes the expulsion of foreign bodies etc. from under the skin as well as other objects from where they're not supposed to be. It's not a bad thing if that is the anti-caking agent used.
  22. Looks awesome! I've got just the thing to add to it - I'll slip it into the package for next week.
  23. flippity flop! Not drilling. The cabinet I was planning to use as a stand doesn't have enough room for the sump so this is going to be live rock only. If I run into issues I've already got a HOB skimmer in mind which should keep it under control. I got some live rock the other day which is really live - amazing how it blitzes ammonia/nitrite. I've got it in a seperate tank so as not to crash it with the other rock that's still cycling and I added a couple of spoon fulls of the cycling tank water (mid level ammonia, heaps of nitrite, some nitrate) and tested the water before adding dirty water, straight after and 2 hours after. Before adding water the live rock water was 0,0,5(ish), straight after adding dirty water was 3-5,10+,5 then 2 hours later 0,0,10-15. I'm truely amazed at how well live rock works. I'll be keeping a small amount alive for as long as I can in what was going to be the sump as I'd like to have a hospital tank/quarantine ready just in case something happens in the nano as apparently when it happens it happens super fast on that scale. I fear this is the beginning of a whole new addiction.
  24. really an issue or rarely an issue? :slfg:
  25. I used 5ml per 80L as directed. I think it was more that the ones that were going to die did as soon as the water changes stopped. Next time I know what to look for and will be able to treat a lot faster. Final update - 9 out of 13 survived. All but 2 are in a new tank with appropriate water conditions for angels (warmer than the community they were in). The last 2 had some fin damage that is being treated with melafix and salt and has pretty much totally healed so they will be going in the angel tank tomorrow after water changes. Thanks to everybody who offered help on this one. I've learnt a lot.
