    Shellie tank

I've had my 10 shellies in my new 800L for the last week with about 30 or so shells. Its funny how they have stayed in the exact spots they first swam to when i released them into it. They will have tank mates when we get back from out honeymoon in 3 weeks.
  2. Nice work Josh. I like! If only i had room to do the same.
  3. I have plenty of Snow White fry if you are willing to grow them out your self. Will be cheap
  4. I bet that's a relief :happy1: What size was it?
  5. Yea thought about selling them, but dont think anyone would be willing to pay for all the man hours that went into it. I think it was definitely a labour of love. LOL Got the drift wood from hff. I think it suits the tank well.
  6. Cheers I think rock piles could be a tad bigger though. And i need to add a powerhead or two to create a flow at bottom of tank. Also, does anyone have a solution to fix the inlets siphoning back into sump when pump is turned off? This is not a huge problem as inlets only sit 10mm into water so will not over flow sump. But is still a pain.
  7. Here are some updated pics. Tank is now full of water, sump is all plumbed in and working, aquascaping done. Well sort of. Please suggest how i could improve it. It's eventually going to house lots of trophs and a few other compatible tank mates. For the mean time I may move my malawis over to it. All it needs now is a lid :happy2:
  8. Hi there, welcome. You may want to stay clear of two bristlenose in a tank of that size as they get very messy as they get bigger. I have a breeding pair in a 60L by themselves and they need some serious filtration to keep their waste from building up.
  9. Wow the fronts look wicked under the blue light! :happy2: Loving the way the coral rock is set out too
  10. Found this link it will be able to explain better than i could http://hubpages.com/hub/Culling-Fry-How-What-and-Why
  11. Yes its made of polly. I did a primer coat of cement and water first, then about 3 coats of cement and sand. On the last added black oxide for a darker look. Next i had to cut it into 3 pieces to fit between the bracing. (had to use a grinder as it was so bloody thick) I used about 4 tubes of silicone to hold it in there and for beads around the perimeter. I made it very snug and it sits hard up against the top bracing so it hardly needed gluing in at all. None the less its better to be on the safe side. Left it to go off overnight. Applied final coat of plaster to hide the joins. And Bobs your uncle. I like that it hides the overflow box in the rear right hand corner. Tank is 1800 x 700 x 700 Just trying to get the sump all plumbed up at the moment.
  12. Ill try and get some pics of them when i get home. I've stripped 3 more fish since simon the syno arrived but so far only cichlid eggs, but on a good note got my first lot of kadango eggs! Baby syno had been on a diet of shrimp pellets, micro worms(dont know if he actually finds them as he is quite dense) and a few reject eggs from my egg tumbler. At the moment there are 3 of them in my 450L 4footer. But these may get upgrade to my 800L 6footer when it is going. Hoping to go tangs :bounce:
  13. Got some 1-2mm marble chip today from stone and water world in Ellerslie. $28 for 25kg sack. Great for buffering and looks good!
  14. Finally finished the background for my 800L. Even managed to find batteries for the camera so here ya go :bounce:
  15. Welcome, Always room for another Josh. :happy2:
  16. They are around 80 - 100 mm. Im not sure on age though. I got them off Kennith when he sold up to go oversees. I read that they dont breed till reaching maturity at 2 to 3 years old. :dunno:
  17. Sweet will try shrimp pellets tomorrow. I don't know if its eaten yet. Ive tried a few types of nls pellets i have for other fish and it doesn't seem too interested. Hopefully when my giraffes or livingstonis start breeding i can use them. Its just good to know that the cuckoos are keen to breed!
  18. Was in there the other day. It must have just arrived as they were arowana proofing the tank lids! At that stage there was no price though.
  19. Did you raise these smidey? That is alot of synos, my little girly was chocka with one. Imagine if all those where in for two weeks.
  20. Yes it is! that fish usually gives around 20 fry so its had quite a banquet over the last 2 weeks.
  21. Stripped one of my snow whites today and out pops a baby syno! (as well as 10 snow whites). I popped 3 synodontis multipunctatus in there a couple of months ago hoping for them to breed some day (definitely wasn't holding my breath though). They are so big compared to the chichlids, mother fish could barely spit the fat fry out. Im guessing its had a good feed on snow white eggs and fry  Has anyone rased these? What to feed? Its all a bit of a shock, I'll keep you updated in Simon the syno's progress.
  22. They are! :happy2: No fish is for everyone, its a good thing they come in so many shapes and sizes (and colours). Heres some of my cute little albino fry. I remember the albino kids at school being a bit sickly etc. But these little fellas have the best grow out rate of anything I've bred so far.
  23. Ive got 'Snow Whites' or Pseudotropheus Socolofi (albino). They are a very active part of my African tank. And are prolific breeders, so if you fancy trying africans let me know! Heres one of the mummys
  24. Boiling will remove chlorine but wont remove nitrates. I would just use a 'water ager' such as prime, if you buy a big bottle it works out very cheap. And is alot quicker than boiling water and waiting for it to cool.
