  1. Just ran those dimensions through and 2500 x 1000 x 600 with 10mm comes out at safety rating of 2.5 which should be sufficient as long as the bracing is done properly. Im no tank builder so please correct me if im wrong guys. But if you wanted to be super safe 500 high comes out at 4.0 safety. It depends on what you are keeping and whether you need a deep tank i guess.
  2. Haha my photography skills leave alot to be desired. Plus, the tank is newish and going through a slight brown algae stage. So not really up to the standard i would like. Im not liking the silica sand either, its getting a bit of algae on its surface and kind of clumping up. Im usually a gravel/grit kind of guy so not used to the finer grain, i wish i could just dig the gravel siphon in their but wouldn't leave much in the way of substrate. Also where would one get white worms? Would HFF have them? Ive got bbs on the go as of this afternoon but im guessing white worms would be good as they wont swim away.
  3. Hi all, I've just discovered my fist lot of shellie fry. :happy1: Just wondering what all you experts out there feed yours? Do you leave them in tank with adults? If you do leave them in there, how do you feed them? Pipette food into their shell maybe? Would be awesome to hear what has and hasnt worked for everyone. Cheers.
  4. I was looking for bio balls the other day for my sump, after buying hff out of their cheap bulk deal headed to pet stop newmarket. Their price was $2 per ball haha i almost died, asked the girl working there and she said it wasnt a mistake and they couldnt do a deal for bulk. At that price it would be one expensive sump.
  5. I know of 3 pet stops, onehunga, dominion rd and newmarket. All 3 have been pretty useless in my experience.
  6. Haha saw your questions snookie. $900 is a bit on the costly side
  7. Is base glass laminate? As has been said before, laminate is only as strong as each individual layer. So wouldn't think it would take much to break 3mm or so layers of base.
  8. A sump is starting to look really good, will be awesome to hide all the crap that ends up cluttering the tank. I think this is going to be a long term project... Ill post a few pics when I get my a into g.
  9. It was very thirsty work! But well worth it. Diy background time i think. Also gotta choose between sump and canister filter. It has an overflow box already but i was wondering whether an overflow box would be any good as it wont pick up particles hanging around near the bottom like the canisters do.
  10. We got it moved! Took 6 of us in the end. I stopped off at timber world Beach Haven and 3 of the guys there were keen to give us a hand in exchange for beers. Its good to know that there are still people willing to lend a hand these days. It wasnt an easy shift as we had to navigate stairs, up and over hand rails, through narrow gates etc. Now for the fun part, what goes it this beast? It turned out being 1800 x 700 x 700, about 880L. 15mm Starfire glass on front and sides.
  11. Yep thats why the bidding only started at $100
  12. Yea this is mine, been sitting in the garden for too long. Just need it gone as the grass is dying! Its gunna be a mission to move. If anyone wants to view send me a pm.
  13. Does anyone know where i could find the glass suckers???
  14. Ive just bought a 6 foot tank to upgrade my 4 footer. Its 15mm so is quite hefty i imagine. Just ran it through the tank builder and it comes out around 200kg. Does anyone know of any good moving companies on the north shore? Or if we end up doing it our self anyone got tips for moving big tanks easier without breaking our backs?

    baby clowns

Im guessing Killies as its posted in the killies section of the forum.
  16. Saw them while i was browsing there yesterday. They are sweet looking fish
  17. As long as you show all your working out (and your maths is correct), there shouldn't be any wrong answers. If they dont specify the details use your best idea, just let them know what you are doing at every step of the calculation.
  18. Could be a kenyi cichlid (pseudotropheus lombardoi) the males turn yellow when reaching maturity. Just a thought. What size are they?
  19. Im not a member yet either, but plan to be in the near future. Is there a form or something to fill out or do i just email my details to one of the folks on that page. Also keen for the tank crawl! The waikato one sounded like a great success.
  20. Haha sorry haven't been around these circles too long. Ill see how i go, i might give it a few manual squirts every now and then. Im afraid that if i leave it set to go off at the normal intervals while the house is closed up during the day, it may build up and this cant be good for poor old fishys. Especially my shellies that haven't got a lid at the moment. Most other tanks have well fitting lids which should keep residue out.
  21. Hi all! As we are coming into the warmer season im noticing quite a few flies hanging around. Ive got a robo can i have used in the past, this was when i didnt have 7 tanks dotted through the house. My question is, will a robo can affect my fish? If so, does anyone have any other ideas to keep flies at bay over summer.

    Golden Ram

It looks like my male golden ram is developing long fins too! If only i could breed them. Anyone got any hints??
  23. So there is no room for more pipes going into gaps in lid/bracing? just trying to understand the situation.
  24. Ive tried pulling apart a 12mm tank, couldn't even get the bracing off the top. Its hard work especially when the glass is squished to tight for a razor blade. Not saying its impossible, will be easier on 10mm i guess.
  25. We signed up with Contact a year ago. They knocked on our door offering rates far cheaper than we had with Mercury, they said we would be guaranteed these for at least a year. At 11 months they send us a letter that on our anniversary is coming up and our rates will increase to their standard rate. Which is quite a bit more than we had with mercury. Cheers Contact! I guess it serves me right for jumping ship at the sight of a better deal. Anyway changed to Powershop after doing a bit of research, looks pretty good.. 92% customer satisfaction on consumer cant be all bad. I guess i can always go crawling back to Mercury if things dont work out
