  1. Sweet! Loving the geos. Very cool how the are schooling
  2. You are a smart man! im gunna have to do in the old fashion way im afraid. Should have at least 6 or 7 here though, but have a couple stairs to deal with. I can feel an acc claim coming on....
  3. The stand is made of 50 x 75 steel with steel right round the bottom perimeter and 2 pieces going through the middle on the bottom. so the weight should be equally dispersed. Ive been busy finding a spot for it, the only way to get it inside is the ranch slider in my lounge. Thats where its gonna live i guess. Got some 17mm ply and 40mm poly today, also a couple of lengths of 100x75 timber to reinforce the flooring joists. Tomorrow will attempt the big lift, how many will it take to lift i wonder. Anyone have any idea? Its still on the trailer the old owners lent me.
  4. Haha my brother had a few escaped guinea pigs living in their gardens. They survived for months but vanished one day. I suspect kitty
  5. Yes! sounds good never done a full on planted tank, very tempting indeed. Some big bits of wood sticking out would look sweat. Im addicted to my malawis though how can i incorporate them i wonder? Or some fronts may like a take this size. Too many options and ALOT to learn
  6. Thanks Matto, my eyes nearly popped out when i saw it! I tried entering 700mm high and got a rating of 2.3ish. does the fact that the panel size is so big determine the safety or does the water level. or is it a bit of both? (dont know if this makes sense :-? ) I'll have to build a hood to hide all the empty space up top
  7. Noo! thats another problem gonna have a builder mate come round and put a couple more support piles in.
  8. It seems to be braced well. it has bracing round the top and bottom perimeters. and cross braces at each end and in the middle. the waterline is at the top of the overflows about 50mm from top of the tank. apparently it never leaked and was the sellers grandson who now owns a fish breeding business in Oz. For $200 i dont mind putting a bit of work in to make sure it doesnt go capput
  9. It has overflow boxes in both corners if i lower the level of water by lowering these will that fix the problem. How high do you think would be ok? 700mm or 800mm?
  10. I think its only 12mm, is this too thin? I was a little worried but they have had it running for a couple of years and no dramas.
  11. Was driving down the road in auckland today and to my shock saw a tank sitting on the grass verge for sale only $200. It measures 1800 x 900 x 900. And came with steel stand, sump and pump! So now have to get the bloody thing inside! and work out what goes in it. i just hope my floor will hold up. What should go in this beast?
  12. Love the altos! Hoping to set up a tang tank in the near future. where did you get yours? anyone breed these on here?
  13. Wow they are some wicked bristles!!
  14. You are very close to hff Mt Roskill. I remember seeing a few female fighters in the last weekend. On sale too. But i may be wrong, would pay to check it out though
  15. Wow that is a work of art. It looks great empty but will look 10 times better full of critters
  16. Removed the fry into a breeding net today after reading on the web that they could get eaten by their parents. has anyone had this happen to them with GBAs? Also was wondering what people feed their GBA fry. I've been feeding them spirulina flake crushed to a powder and a bit of cucumber.
  17. Got back from a week in Auzzie yesterday and to my surprise my bristle colony had increased from 2 to 65+. Im sure a lot of you have bred GBAs before, but this is my first successful breeding. They were in my malawi tank for a couple of months before i moved them on their own so i think the fry/eggs became tasty treats. So just thought i would throw that up here as im sooo over the moon! :bounce: :bounce: haha no one at home or work really seems to appreciate the effort that goes into the little fellas. But no doubt everyone on here does.

    New 3ft Marine

Looking good! I would love to start up a marine tank like this... so many sweet options out there, so little time/moneys :-? Keep us updated
  19. I had 4 male dwarf gouramis in a 60L and they got along fine!
  20. I had the same problem last weekend trying to set up a spray bar for my fry tank. I ended up using the clear aqua one tubing from lfs. Drilled holes in it and put a stopper in the end. Its doing the job for the time being but would like to go with something more rigid eventually. I was thinking some pvc piping would do if i can get my hands on it. Let us know how ya go
  21. Hatching my first lot of brine shrimp today! when do ya start feeding them spurilina? Edit: just read livingarts post.... so 24 hours after hatching then?
  22. Ok thanks for the feedback. Has anyone got suggestions or a syno that they like. Saw a few at hff the other day some are quite pricey. do they like to be in a group (if this is the case would have to go with cheaper ones) or could i just buy one of the slightly more expensive ones. Also how many could i have in a 450L tank? Some get quite big dont they. Are there a small breed that i could have a few of? Thanks in advance!
  23. I'm thinking of adding a few synodontis of some description to my 450L african tank, however they have just started spawning and i dont want the synos to interfere with this. I have read they can eat the eggs etc. Has anyone had any problems breeding with synos in the tank??
