Red eared sliders are already banned and have been for a few years. You are allowed to keep and breed them though, just not import any more.

I only have one baby mystic but if, when I get my bigger tank set up, they produce more I will keep you in mind!
  3. I received a registration form today. Here are the cost details several of you were asking about. Please remember, this conference is for FNZAS members only! Costs per person... Registration: $50.00 Bus & train trip, beer tasting, Tawhiti Museum (great place!): $15.00 Dinner Saturday night: $22.50 Dinner Sunday night: $22.50 Accommodation: Two venues. Forrestal Lodge clean and comfy but rooms not large. Railway Hotel very basic with single and twin rooms available. Both have places to make your own breakfasts (cereals, bread, spreads etc provided by Taranaki). You may also, at your own cost, order a breakfast or eat at the Inglewood Club nearby. Lodge: $30.00 per night Hotel: $15.00 per night There will be a cabaret on Saturday night, an interesting guest speaker before the AGM and a train trip on Sunday with lots to do. Accommodation will be at a premium as the British Lions are in town that weekend so you must send in a registration form before April 20th to ensure your bed. Registration forms have been sent to all club secretaries so call yours for a copy. Sounds like Mitch and the team have been very busy! Looking forward to it!! PS. The dinners are optional (so is the trip for that matter ) but you learn a lot and meet great people at the dinners. You may also arrange your own accommodation if you prefer.
  4. A reminder to all clubs that Remits must be sent to Hazel Goodin before March 14th 2005. She has changed address too. It is now 3a Fenton St. Te Puke. She asked me to post this information here. Letters have gone to all clubs as well.
  5. Cross your legs Adele!!!

All my yellows are bright yellow with black fins! At least one of them has to be female though

My baby is now about 2cm long and looks like this... Isn't he/she cute?
  8. What a hard decision to make! Best of luck to you all. Are your parents going to take a well earned retirement? What are you going to do?
  9. If it is only a 40 litre then I would get rid of the barbs and leave the black moor by itself.
  10. Thanks for all the replies. They have taken the filter and we will see how it goes. Should be good.
  11. It will be 1.8 x 600 x 600
  12. If you have the space, add more barbs. They are a shoaling fish and prefer to be in groups of 6 or more. When in larger groups they are so busy seeing to their own pecking order they leave other fish alone.

Obviously there is nothing else to do in Wainuiomata  Welcome to the fishroom Matt.
  14. It was more the safety factor. Having piles of rocks in it (being for the Malawis) we figured it wouldn't matter if they accidentally toppled onto ply but could crack glass. Less chance of stress fractures in an earthquake too. This tank will be set up in our computer room and there are usually 8 or 9 computers, printers, scanners ect sitting on the floor around the tank. If it leaked we would lose a lot of stuff. Also easier to drill holes in
  15. Just got the quote for a 6ft plywood & fibreglassed tank with 10mm toughened glass front with a 4ft ply and fibreglassed sump tank underneath (with some glass in the front so I can see how the filter is going). Glass lids under a 100% recycled rimu lid and stand, top quality 2 pot polyurethane sprayed finish 30% gloss. The stand will have removable cupboard doors for ease of access when required. $2,835.00
  16. Thanks pies, I should have remembered all those filters on that tank! So true. I think we will use the filter since it is already here and ready to go so he doesn't have to wait for one to be ordered in.
  17. Well done MA! (and danios too)
  18. Thanks Ira. Filter has a spray bar so shouldn't be too bad. Any other opinions so I can go with the majority?

Ha obviously you can never trust the Irish!
  20. Do you have a pic? What colour was he before? Sometimes fish will change colour and darken due to stress. They may also change colour slightly in response to their surroundings (camouflage). You don't have a multicoloured castle in there with him do you?
  21. He has been getting help Kim don't worry. Hope it went well Brian. Let us know!
  22. Caryl replied to luvguppies's topic in Welcome
Hi luvguppies and welcome to the site. Lots of help and information here. Squished tail disease? Sounds like they may have clamped fins due to stress and/or poor water conditions. Do you have any test kits to check the water quality?
  23. How many times per hour is the water supposed to circulate through the filters ideally in a tropical tank? I know of 2 tanks, 1 is 104L (and quite tall) and the other 145L (standard 3ft). I have a filter here rated at 1000L per hour. Is this too much for either of these tanks, or not enough? I know you can never have too much filtration but I don't want the fish to die of exhaustion fighting the current either :-? I know the current can be turned down but this put extra srain on the filter motor. A quick response would be appreciated as the man involved is keen to go out and buy buy buy - and not necessarily appropriately. He just spent $700 on the 104L tank and stand.

Another vote for mollies here with no connection to the eggs which would have been eaten.
  25. It would only work short term then the pH would rise again (I seem to remember reading that somewhere) - often too rapidly for the fish.
