  1. We got the beautiful yellow from Jansens Botany...we had her about a year but then died We have a beautiful baby girl from the male in the pic, but we don't know who her mother was, as we were experimenting with all three of the females that we had at the time to see which one the male liked better...and one day we just saw this random baby swimming round the tank. So the mother of our baby is ether one of the two females in the photo or a pearl white one. The baby is the same colours as the dad - dark blue/red/purple - she is beautiful! need to post some pics of her. So our mission at the moment is to try and breed the baby.....hopefully from her babies we may be able to tell who her mother was...who knows...may end up with some beautiful yellow bubs! Haven't seen any yellows like her in the shops since we got her though!
  2. Ok....sorry if this doesn't work ..this is the first time i am trying to post a pic....these are our old fighters - yellow girl, red girl, blue male
  3. I have had the same thing a few times I think.....Is it when they are perfectly helathy one day, and then the next day their tails end up in a point? like they are glued together? I looked everywhere in books and on the net for a cure for this but couldn't find one. Ended up losing most of my guppy population......tried everything - added salt, malkolin blue, melafix, those little orange capsules with green powder inside....nothing worked. In the end I just emptied the tank down to the lowest possible and replaced nearly all the water - the already sick ones didn't make it, but prevented any more getting sick. The sad thing is that the males usually get it a few days after the females have died. Small water changes don't see to help the situation either.
  4. Patrick is the name of the guy at goldfish pagoda. He is just starting out with selling marine fish....his prices are very cheap! He told us a few weeks ago that you can just tell him what marine fish you want and he will order them in for you..not sure if he will be keeping any in the shop though.
  5. We have 5 bettas... 2 males - one named 'Romeo' (as we bought him as a lover for one of our girlies), and 'valentino' (as i bought him as a valentines day pressie for my boyfriend. Girls are called 'Baby' (as she was the first baby fighter we bred! ), 'Juliet' (as we needed a juliet seeing as we had romeo), and 'Jojo' coz she was tiny when we bought her - and Jojo is a little 14yr old pop singer) I used to name all my guppies too....but now only name the ones that stand out!
  6. Thanks....might move them to a breeding tank and see what happens. will be an experience trying this for the first time!
  7. we have a pair of honey gourami, and are looking at breeding them....how do you do it?
  8. I had a few of those bug looking thingees in my guppy tank about a year ago! when they got larger they would climb out of the tank then die! I don't know if they were exactly the same ones or different, but they certainly looked very similar to the picture. They used to live in, on and around my filter....I don't remember having any guppy fry at the time....maybe it was beacuse of these things.
  9. Just a question.....when you were breeding your fighters did you have a filter/air flow in the tank? we had babies for about a week and then they all died Thanks
  10. Sounds like they have Ich! Treat them with some Malkon blue or white spot medicine....that usually does the trick....it's quite easy to get rid of!
  11. We have two gorgeous males! On is a blue/purple crow tail - we got him from hollywood fish about 3 weeks ago! And we got a beautiful red/blue show male from Jansens Mt Eden about 2 weeks ago There are usually some good ones at Lady Gays Pets on Onehunga Mall Rd
  12. Well....I'd just like to thank everyone for their help!...we treated them, cleaned the water......and now have about 5 survivers (but don't know how long they will be around! It kinda sucks coz this was the first successful breed we have had with the fighters...but at least we have learnt for next time!..I think the biggest problem was that when we set up the breeding tank we originally transferred a small amount of water form the community tank...which probably had the w/s in it! Oh well....we'll see what happens with these babies, and if no survivers then we can always try again in a few weeks!
  13. we are from Bucklands Beach too....what goes on at these meetings?
  14. Ok.,...we need some help... we have teeny tiny one week old baby fighters and they have white spot quite bad! we hav turned the tank up to about 31 degrees and we usually use malkon blu but it says it is unsafe for fry!!! what do we do? don't wanna lose the babies
